I have an 06 550i with a stock exhaust at the moment and I want to give it that nice V8 rumble. I went and spoke to a mechanic and he suggested getting a new pipe from about halfway down, sports muffler and aftermarket tip. I am limited with what I can touch due to my mechanical warranty, I can't touch my O2 sensors etc.

I'm just wondering, will this make enough of a difference? And will this mod affect fault codes etc from removing the butterfly valve in the stock exhaust?

	Thanks for the help!

	Hi Brrus.

Here are a few options for my rear end of the Ls into e39 conv:

Import a e39 M5 diff from ebay or South Africa and source out sideshafts...but the risk is there..

	Or

Buy a 210 mm diff and fit a 4.1 ratio and a lsd center...sideshafts too..

	Or

Lsd my one which would eventually break..

	Any advice...

Looking for some advice, going to build my own exhaust to keep funds open for other repairs/upgrades on the E30.

Dont want an obnoxiously loud setup and have the following available to use:

	3.2 E36 M3 Muffler

E36 328i complete exhaust from headers to muffler (probably won’t need)

	Will buy piping/bends as required.

Idea at present: as the M3 muffler has dual inlet 2.25” pipes I’m leaning towards 2 y sections, 1 after the headers and 1 pre-muffler. With 2.5” center section to keep it simple and reduce weight.

I don’t see any real benefit to a dual exhaust? Yea?

	Hi Guys,

My 135i (N55) charge pipe exploded a little while ago. BMW wants $600 for the plastic pipe, so I started looking for aftermarket options. Aftermarket options were just as ridiculously priced - $400-500 NZ.

So I jumped on trademe and bought a no-name brand one which was supposed to come with "everything you need to upgrade your factory charge pipe" which in hindsight, may have been a mistake. At the time I bought this pipe, I couldn't find my OEM "clip" (The metal C clip that goes on the pipe that holds it to the throttle body - I actually did ask the seller if he could source one but he couldn't so I ended up ordering one from eBay for ~$40. In the end I ended up finding my OEM clip, which I was happy about.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get this clip to seat correctly. Is this user error or is this not the right kind of clip? I know this is a non-premium part so I am not expecting excellent fit but this thing isn't even close to fitting. I have tried both the clip I got from ebay AND my OEM BMW clip - neither fit. See images below.

What is the deal with this thing? Do I need to get a bigger clip from somewhere?

Looking for a latency table for OE M54B30 injectors. Have found a table

but it only specifically lists half the values I need - I'm using an E36 Link plugin ecu, and it needs values for 7, 9, 11 &13v as well. Have been in touch with a few folks about this and they're all in agreement that using the mean number between two values will not be accurate enough.

So has anyone else here set up a Link on a 3 litre??

Anybody know who is good for diesel remapping? I don't want to map the car yet but I want to program out the EGR system.

From what I understand, you need to adjust a few things....not just delete the CEL that comes up. ECU adjusts injection timing when it thinks EGR is active etc.

I would like to do this properly if I can find a good shop.

I'm looking at a medium- to long-term project, fitting a diesel engine and automatic gearbox into a 4x4, probably a Land Rover-based hybrid tow and camping vehicle. The swap of a BMW engine into a Land Rover is fairly common, and the M51 was used in the Range Rover.

I've looked at Land Rover's installations of 200TDi, 300TDi, TD5 and even TDV8 engines. The last two introduce a fair amount of complexity (but are great when working correctly).

By comparison, the BMW M57 is a more compact package than the 200TDi (or 300TDi), making for a better subject for conversion into a Series-looking Land Rover. The M51 is recognised as fitting (length-wise) anywhere a Rover 3.5 V8 will go.

I'll not be looking for 300hp, or probably even 200hp, but strong torque will be a requirement. Less power, more torque is not just acceptable, but possibly desirable. If pushed for a dream specification, I'd say 200bhp and 400lb ft, but that is very unlikely to be realised.

There are other engine options, but keeping this simple means looking at proven solutions with good, albeit likely internet-based, support. Fitments where I'm not at the bleeding edge of engine swap and where (if at all possible) I can simply buy the parts I need to make this work, rather than relying on custom design and fabrication.

Does anyone have experience of the M51 vs M57 ? The M51 has an obvious simplicity benefit in having 2 valves per cylinder (vs 4 valve per cylinder in the M57) but the M51 is also significantly lower in output.

I quite fancied the idea of a Mercedes OM617 (5-cylinder) turbo swap, but that's a much less common change.
