By no means I am an excellent driver at track, all about the fun.

This event is using the full 3km track at Manfeild and is intended as a low key opportunity for folks to try out driving on the track, learn some skills, test their car and have a rewarding day out. There will be tutorials available, slow sessions, fast sessions and one session with slalom sections coned out on the track. A second drivers briefing at lunch time is planned for drivers who only want to do the afternoon session.

in the coming season at Hampton Downs ? On April 10 this year during the final round of The Classic Japanese series the track was closed for one hour while American / V8's drove sedately around for 5 laps. I wasn't sure if this was a "club" event,but it didnt cost them a bean !

Does BimmerSport or any other Auckland Car Clubs have any plans to have an event in 2016 -17 for those of us who dont have :

fire proof suits,

roll cages,

Titanium Helmets

but I would be willing to pay $ 80 ( say ) to follow a pace car at say 180km max just for the thrill.

Single file 10 seconds intervals :no over taking: 15 minutes or so on the track.

Cars to be Road legal.

According to Keith Jones, who is involved with the Classic Japanese series the rental for the day

at H Downs will increase next season, if the extension is used,

Pukekohe circuit day rental for clubs is being finalised soon, I am informed.

I've made a snap decision to head to Pukekohe this Saturday and try out a new track (I've only driven Hampton Downs so far).

It's only $90 for the day. I think they divide it into sessions (bikes, cars, single seaters) depending on what turns up, but getting there early should mean some good track time.

I'll also have ex-BMW open class winner Andre Cowan with me, giving me some instruction (my car used to belong to his dad). I'm sure he'd be happy to share his time around a bit if any other bimmers turn up.

The Kiwi 8’er Group in conjunction with the BMW Car Club of New Zealand announce the following events for the weekend of the 15th and 16th of November. As this is the 25th Anniversary Year for the E31 (8 Series) this model will be the focus of our meeting.

Saturday 15^th

Playday on Track Twilight meeting at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park… We are hoping to get up to three groups with a maximum size of 20 cars per group.

1) BMW Race Cars

2) BMW 8 Series

3) BMW Road Cars (all other models)

This is a chance to put your car on the track in a non-competitive but fun way and also to provide some pictorial opportunities for the Bimmerfest.

We will be on track from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Cost will be $75 per car.

Sunday 16th

A BMW Car meeting and day trip down some interesting by roads to the Cheese Factory Cafe at Waharoa in the Waikato for lunch and then a return journey to Auckland and of course for those of you journeying from afar a trip home…

This is a no cost event except for your time and petrol, and lunch.

We will meet at the Countdown Carpark in the South East Corner by McDonalds at 9.30 for a 10 am start and a route map will be provided to each car. It is hoped that the 8 Series will lead the procession of cars and we will be stopping along the route for photo opportunities and a chance to swap passengers etc…

For those returning to Auckland it might be an idea to bring swim wear as we could call into the Miranda Hotsprings and then have an early fish dinner at the Kaiaua Fish and Chip Shop.

I'm taking the M3 to a track day session at Pukekohe next Saturday 25th. It'll be my second time at Puke and the first outing for my track day tyres! .

I'd be very happy to see any bimmersport peeps there. They allow passengers (who bring a helmet) so if you're keen enough you can ride shotgun.

My mate will also be bringing along his 635csi to blow out cobwebs following 6 years kept up in a shipping container.

The usual track day stuff applies: the emphasis is on lots of fun rather than fast times, racing and drifting aren't part of the picture. All cars on the track need to have a current registration, a current Warrant / MSNZ logbook (and be at a WoF-able standard) and a secured fire extinguisher within reach of the driver. Drivers must be in overalls and wearing a helmet and there must be no loose items in the cabin. There will be scrutineering to make sure everyone's safe out there . Passengers are allowed so long as they are attired the same as the driver.

Here is a quick itinerary I sorted out this morning, should be a decent road trip for a 22yo Peugeot :roll:/>

It’s going to be roughly 3880km's and that’s only touring and not the actual track days (4 of). Should be and epic trip!

Based on getting about 440km's on a $110 tank of 98 gas plus an extra 4 tanks for track days I’m estimating $1400 ish on fuel

I just signed up for 1 year AA plus cover which gets me a tow from anywhere in the country with loan cars and accommodation etc, plus at least 4c a liter of fuel which should hopefully add up to a decent saving.

It's also $80 for second drivers in the same car and $20 for any spectators. You get morning tea and lunch.

I've done a couple with them now - they are very well run and you get loads of laps. My missus and me did 261km (79 laps) last time!

It's a nice informal day but it's not a race - no overtaking under braking, which basically means no overtaking through the corners.
