  1. Yesterday
  2. In a fortunate turn of events, both Dogballs and I got the bits we wanted from SJ's set of F series big blues for sale. I've done brakes plenty of times but this will actually be the first time I've swapped calipers out, so I have some questions about the bleed / refill process as I've heard the brembos can be a pain to bleed completely. I'll only be running the fronts as the rears on an E90 are firmly in the way too hard basket - that or spending moonbeams on having the calipers converted to axial mount. Some quick maths on piston sizing shows that braking bias won't be affected very much, the difference being 10,202mm^2 stock compared to 10,048mm^2 for the new blues, which is a 0.4% shift in brake bias to the rear. 1) Check the bleed nipples firstly - I've heard they are prone to seizing - are these an off the shelf / generic item if I need to replace? 2) Bleeding calipers from empty - I guess the process is the same as bleeding but will obviously take longer to fully clean the system out? 3) The E90's that could be retrofitted with the 6/2piston BMW Performance yellows also had coding added to the VO as "+SPBR" - is this necessary at all? 4) Bleed the outer side of the calipers before the inner side? Many thanks!
  3. A new (new new?) EGR assembly (assume they have finally caught up with updated part manufacture, had a Wahler valve after first replacement) and a new OE Pilkington windscreen
  4. So the end result of this is that the car now has a new correctly installed OE Pilkington screen courtesy of CCBMW after S+S had put 2 new aftermarket screens in, awful whistling above 50kph with both. I swear the inside vehicle SPL is about 10dB less with the OE screen. Very happy
  5. Just because it's dealer serviced doesn't mean anything if the owner declines to follow the recommendations. Usually once it's out of warranty, customers don't really seem to care
  6. I really don't have the tools and time to do the clutch delay valve delete on my e87 so I was wondering if I should just pay someone to do it. Not sure how much would be appropriate though. Keen to hear what you guys think!
  7. Ohh is that getting parted out, is it? Would there be a spare towing module in there somewhere I could scavenge? 😏
  8. I see the owner spent the extra cash on the carbon ceramic brakes. Did you see if they had the sports buckets as well?
  9. Got my partly broken x5 it’s own partly broken x5.
  10. I had the same thing on my 94 316i compact! Worse thing was it was dealer serviced most of its life, and had 220k on the clock.
  11. Buying a NZ new 2019 320i Msport and signed on for a 3 year “warranty” under the advice that it covered everything aside from consumables… After agreeing to this and being sent the policy document, turns out it’s just Provident MBI. Everything online says that MBI is a waste of time and if anything major goes wrong it would be CGA anyway, and if it’s not major it’ll probably cost less than the $3000 I’m paying for the MBI. Interested to hear anyone’s thoughts on keeping it or not?
  12. Last week
  13. The one issue that came with this car is the drivers window does not work. It worked once during a WoF, but I have not been able to roll it up or down since. It hasn’t bothered me, but I have to go to North Shore Hospital regularly and it is a pain because I have to open my door and get out for a parking ticket each time I go. All I get when I press the button is a *click* noise. All the other windows work so I have swapped the switches to check it’s not just a bad switch, same result. FullSizeRender.MOV It doesn’t seem as though you can replace the motor without removing the regulator, which is riveted in. Is that correct? If I have to drill this out, what else should I be doing while I’m in there? There is something connected to the yellow socket (above), but nothing to the white, does anyone know what the white socket is for? Thank you in advance for any advice. I miss wind up windows!
  14. M2s are aging well, still turn my head every time I see one.
  15. Was heading into town in the E30 this morning and a Long Beach Blue OG M2 accompanied me most of the way from Birkenhead - not sure if it was a member. Assuming not as he ignored me at the lights 😂 One of the few 'modern' BMWs I would swap to I think.
  16. In the Z3 community, it is normal to fit standard Z3 shocks to the Z3 sport suspension. The difference in ride height is only 15mm.
  17. I can’t think of anything in a software update that would affect your fuel consumption dramatically, so unlikely to be that. Does sound a bit on the high side, so would be worth getting it checked out so it doesn’t lead to bigger issues later on. Do you know if the car has been re-mapped, tuned or programmed? Some of the Interweb specials can do funny things.
  18. Doesn't sound right at all, my 2008 135i modded with 419wkw (double factory power) averages 12-13L/100km in city traffic. You might want to get it checked at the dealer or euro specialist.
  19. Thanks Brent, funny this is exactly where I ended up last night. Taking the part numbers out of Real OEM.
  20. part numbers for 6cyl z3 msport type https://www.google.com/search?q=31316753262&rlz=1C1GIWA_enNZ599NZ599&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 https://www.google.com/search?q=31316753261&rlz=1C1GIWA_enNZ599NZ599&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 and older part numbers 31311094191 & 31311094192
  21. Thanks Brent, I am struggling to find struts. I have found some Sachs Z3 OEM shocks but they dont state they are for M Sport suspension, any thoughts?
  22. z3 has much shorter struts and little lower springs so yes will fit but will lift the front up quite a bit
  23. I have been looking to replace the front struts on my Budget Z3. I found some struts for an E36, but the website says they are not compatible with a Z3. I have sport suspension so that may well be part of the issue, but I am wondering can anyone confirm if there are any differences between an E36 sport strut, and a Z3 Sport strut. I am assuming there may be some valving differences. Has anyone been down this path before? BTW, I am actually enjoying a Sunday drive in the Z3, it's not fast, being a 2l M52, but with the top down its a pleasant experience.
  24. Bought my first E46 325i touring a few weeks ago. Previous owner had been chasing what he suspected was a "vacuum leak", causing a slight miss at cold start but otherwise drove well. I got under yesterday to do the fuel filter and trans mounts. Took the cover off the fuel filter and sre enough the vacuum line is perished at the regulator. Take the filter off, replace the fuel lines and vacuum line while I'm there and finish up. Had the old fuel filter on my bench with black fuel and sediment coming out of it and that's when I realized the date on it was the build date of the e46. 22 years / 160000kms later.. yikes!
