Changed the oil and filter. Replaced the oil level sensor o ring. Got annoyed with the twit who covered it in sealant rather than replacing a $1 o ring. Gave her a bath.

E90 4 cylinder models (N46) are exempt from these types of problems with there inbuilt oil and inhibitor recycling systems which does prevent rust, makes a mess and causes heart breaking tension on peoples wallets.

so, i've had this 2005 e90 320i for 8 months now. love the car. its brilliant. not entirely problem free - had to replace a sensor and have ongoing oil consumption (leak) and coolant leak issues. so, i've become quite used to weekly checks for oil and coolant levels. usually the warning light for low oil comes with a +1L instruction. so the other day, i had a low oil warning but without the +1L. i put 800ml in. then i drove from takapuna to pt chev. noticed some white smoke whafting from the engine bay on the way over. i know this sometimes happens because of the oil leak onto to manifold and getting burned off. but by the time i got to my destination, it was pretty much steaming nonstop and when i popped the bonnet there was oil all over the place and i could see it flowing out through the top where the filler cap was. fearing the worst (it is a BMW after all!) i figured my gasket had blown.. but after observing for a while, i realized it might have been over filling of engine oil... i didn't have any tube or pump to suck out oil so i just called AA for a tow home. i figured i could suck it out or just drive it quickly to the BMW 5 minutes from home on monday (this happened sunday night). next morning i noticed the filler cap was not locked in properly. i wondered if it had been blown off during the leak from the overfill. but at the same time the oil gauge sensor was showing 3 quarters full only. i tightened the cap, cleaned up the engine bay a bit and started the engine and let it warm up and drove around the block a few times pushing hard to see if i could force the thing to pop again. everything was back to normal. conclusion - i hadn't put the cap on and locked it thightly!!! don't be an idiot like me if this happens to you. don't panic, keep calm take your time to think through what the problem could be... i'm laughing now, but it wasn't funny on that day. just wanted to share. EDIT: wanted to talk about the waterpump leak that just happened and decided i'd just make this an ongoing e90 problem discussion thread (i bet i'll have plenty more to come!) instead of starting a new one. Might be useful for potential e90 users as a reference.

Pulled this from a 80,000km Z3. Downing Atlanta SC good for 200+ HP. Should work well in a E30.

    - 125k - Auto - Import at 50k from Japan. - 1 owner for 70,000km - Heated seats - ASC - GENUINE BBS - No rust. 3 Minor dents - Full service just completed - Compression is 195psi which I was told is fantastic. Thought I had "convinced" the wife she didnt want a Z3 and should get an E36 msport instead. I was wrong and she is now purchasing a Z3. I purchased off Jordan who is also on the forum. He has just given it a full service and I put 6 months rego on it. It's a great little car and is complete with everything working. It will need 2 tyres for the next WOF in November. I had fully intended on putting a new wof, giving it a good polish and clean so the wife could drive as daily. But she wants a Z3 and I can't be bothered pissing around. ####### $5k ####### Richard 021620633 Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk

The time has come to sell off the project car as I don't have the time or energy to finish it off. Ill see how much interest there is selling at as a whole package and if need be I will then part it out. Brought the car about 6 years ago, Car has its rego on hold. The car is a rolling shell with as far as I can remember just about everything there. What it comes with. E30 rolling shell 2 x bucket seats Recovered rear seat with extra padding added to the sides and middle. Dish steering wheel and boss kit. Wilwood peddle box with Bias adjustment for brakes, Brake master cylinder position has been moved over to the drivers side to avoid the heat from the exhaust. Dash has been recovered in faux Suede to cover up a few cracks. 2 x Sr20de engines 1 is a short block that was being used as a dummy motor for mock up, Currently sitting on temp engine mounts. The other engine was apparently a good running engine that comes with an ECU. Sr20det Gearbox, comes with a short shifter, 5th and reverse where maybe a little crunchy, Also comes with the sr20det jack shaft. Carpet that has been redyed. Face lift loom fitted. Looking for offers around $1500.

I have had great success with isopropyl alcohol before when I accidently swiped part of the bumper on a painted wooden fence (I know, I know, but it was really tight spot) and the paint from that wiped right off. You can get it at a pharmacy and it is usually pretty cheap for a small bottle; like $6-7 or so. I mostly use it for cleaning thermal paste off CPUs but it is a great solvent because it is pure enough that it leaves no residue.

The exhaust set-up made 310rwhp on a standard (but fresh) S50B32. Best lap times in the car were 1:12's around Hampton Downs to give an idea of how hard its been driven over the last 5 years. Rolling on E36 316ti suspension and wheels Race/wet weight was 1100kg when it was a full car and without the driver and with 20L of fuel. Reason for sale is that the suspension, diff, brakes, motor and gearbox have been fitted to a E36 so the E30 is no longer need. You would need to fit these to make the car go fast once again.

Your E90 has a smart battery system and a number of problems could prevent it from starting... including just a faulty battery. You know my phone #

More fun yesterday, raped the 328i Msport coupe of it's M-ness for the touring. Great they're the same colours so swapped everything over. Also decided since the coupe didn't have a tow bar I'll use it's rear defuser on the m3 and remove it's tow bar since it says in the owners manual it's not to be fitted with a tow bar, even tho it's a factory one, so that saves a bit of weight. Just need to get some new bumper mounts from a wreak and refit it.

Make me think back at our technical school days, when we where learning to gas and arc weld. we use to weld cubes and just left a little hole and filed it up white oxy acetelene and light er up. If the welds held together we god an A. Or for science we use to make pipe bombs wit sugar and fertiliser, and let them go off behind school. The good old day's when we where allowed to smoke at school.

Sounds like the spragg clutch in the alternator pulley is seized causing the belt tensioner to vibrate and rattle. Get it seen to before the tensioner bearing flies to pieces. You will probably need a new pulley, tensioner and idler to fix it. Special tools are required to change the spragg pulley

Sounds just like a n42/n46 motor - they are noisy and very picky on correct oil and regular maintenance.

Watching with interest - I have 4 children aged 6 and under and they have no respect, don't help out around the house and not only use the washing machine whenever they want ... but they expect my wife or I to do it. They also don't pay their rent or share of utilities, and expect food to be included.

There is a reason for requiring photos and prices of items for sale, it helps prevent scamming and giving the unpaid/unthanked moderators a hell of a time trying to sort out the issue despite the site not having any ability to pursue any offenders. It is not difficult to do. If you do not like the rules, go and advertise somewhere else like tardeme where there is every chance you will be ripped off/answer any amount of ridiculous questions/ not get any response from the auction winner etc etc etc. Your choice.
