UPDATE 12/06/16 Car is back on the road! Wow over two mouths of it being off the road we got her done! Car feels great after doing a rough wheel alignment ourselves (As no one was open at 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon) it was drive able. Feels like a new car! Is a lot harder ride and feels tighter in the steering but not a race car either. Feels more alive, takes bumps and corners amazingly well both at low and high speeds. I'm so happy with - it feels and drivers better than I could ever of imagine. IMO it was worth all the time and money it took! Can't wait for new tyres a proper alignment and reinforcement plates to go in and really see what she can do. Some pics of her back on the road.

Ive had both and the SEC really felt like an old car when driving and also has a myriad of vacuum hose problems. It did get a ton of compliments tho. The other gotcha on the SEC is the rust.. its got cavities prone to rust in the best of climates but in the UK or Ireland, its horrific. The E31 drives like a new car (ie you dont feel like you are floating at speed, its got better everything in the normal car sense) and is nicely rust proof. It doesnt have the insane vacuum hose problems but does have electrical oddities. On the flip side, 2 of everything means you have redundancy (the other engine bank will run, becomes a 6 cylinder) if fault detected. On the technology and service side; Servicing a CSi isnt bad at all (though I would do most myself).. its bad rep came when it was launched as a technical tour de force in the 1990's. Its tech is very humble and simple by 2016 standards, a new Honda Accord (as a random example) is 10x more complicated. Really, we are talking semi-sequential injection, copper spark plugs, distributor caps (!!), narrow band O2, low PSI fuel pumps (with 2 for good measure) built upon an low compression engine originally made in the 70s! Its complex but revolutionary Z-link rear suspension became standard in (all?) BMWs after it. Technology wise, its little more complicated than a M60 engined E34 (which I loved, had 2) and far behind an M62 E39. I also have a Magnesium engined N52 530i E60 LCI, that thing is !! in complexity, but an amazing engine.

So ive played around in the car scene for a while and mainly had old jap cars ive worked on as projects as such but my daily has usually been a euro. been through a couple of alfas a vw couple of rovers and more recently a merc which I need to sell as Ive just picked up a 630i. First time owning a BM and im rather enjoying it. I pickled it up from Chch on tuesday and drive it to auckland, would have been more fun if I wasn't horribly hungover from the long weekend and in full on zombie mode by the time I got home. So Im looking at adding some wheels and coilovers then maybe something like like a remap and tinker with the engine just a little. then the audio as I like my sound. Looks like a good bunch of guys here and a vast array of info too so look forward to getting into it.

Cash hopefully! Thinking about moving abroad for work and dont want to subject it to international shipping again (technically the 3rd time in its life!).

Hi everyone. Glad to join the community. I've purchased my first ever bimmer 2005 E60 530i Msport and I'm freakn wrapped. However, buying via a dealer in Auckland, this imported 104km vehicle has its, well challenges. I've taken a 3 year warranty out with Autosure and elected for the Extreme package under urges from a good friend that has a bimmer himself. Bear with me, After driving the vehicle down from Auckland on the Saturday, by the following Tuesday (4 days later) the transmission fault came on and I took it straight to Jeff Gray in Hastings (which by chance I had actually booked the vehicle in for a service that day!) The guys at Jeff Gray have said, there is slippage between 5&6th gear. "Requires a tranny rebuild" they said, BUT, Autosure got them to update the idrive and gave it back to me. So, I did some research and well it appears this car in prone to it, so I'm not overly surprised and very very happy I have a warranty. The Autosure guys have said, as soon as the fault comes back, it will go straight in for a rebuild. The car "bumps" when coming to a stop and has progressively got worse. Keen to know if anyone else has run into similar situation and did the fault come back? If so, when? Not regretting the purchase at all, but a tough start to my bimmer journey. Also, keen to know if there are any recommendations for a good independent bmw mechanic in the bay. *sorry photo is the dealers, but reckon it's the best one!*

extra gear reminds me of something NZ would make. The new host asks the guests the most inane questions, he reminds me of guy williams but he's not actually trying to be funny. the segment when he asks what do you think of this new model as shown on tv screen and chris harris trys to play cool is pathetic. can't believe he would watch that back and not be embarrassed by it.

The 560SEC AMG would be a fairer comparison to the CSi. I like the CSi but love the AMG,.

Greetings all. I'm joining bimmersport after owning my 2001 530i E39 for about 10 months. Like a lot of my generation, I grew up, and learned to drive, in a selection of Datsuns and Nissan's. My first car was a 1974 Datsun Violet, 160j SSS, a car I inherited. However, not being mechanically gifted and conscious of not attracting the unwanted attention of fuzz, I moved onto a sequence of sedans. That was until last year, when it was decided that my family needed a second car. I saw an opportunity to get something a little more exciting than our Honda CRV. At first I started looking at 300ZXs, a long obsession of mine, but at long last I concluded that they were fun, but impractical, and also a little small for a man of height. So I started looking at BMWs until, through word of mouth, I heard of a friend of a friend that was thinking about selling his 5 series. He had worked in France, for BMW, developing the drive train for the series that succeeded mine. So now I have my own bimmersport, and there's no looking back. I love driving it. It's a great high speed cruiser with enough to make it fun too. I came across this forum while researching the stereo. I wanted to be able to get the higher frequencies and possibly be able to connect up a aux input of sometime. I've learnt my car is to old to have the global radio and would need to replace the unit with a European model. Future work well be required on the steering system as the car darts and wanderers a little, and I've also noticed, what guessing is the fire wall, is crumbling away. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for the feedback, its my CSI up for sale. Surprised by some of the comments about the rims. I really like them and they usually get rave feedback.. and they really are rare period correct rims! They are nice and wide which really complements the CSi's fat ass shape. I previously had Style 5 and Style 32's on it.. I've had this car for quite a while! PS: Here is is beside my 560SEC back in Ireland.

E46 M3 are pretty cheap at the moment and i wouldnt pick they will go much lower if at all, so now would be the time to buy, also before they all have parts replaced with taiwan crap that will break again. find one thats been maintained with OEM parts and you will be away.

Assuming it has never been in accident and had a repair! Or been submerged, or driven on salted roads, or parked at the beach, etc. Galvanizing is good but its not magic unicorn good, still pays to check.

The old 3 were the show, they were comedians running a car show. Felt like they carried a passion for cars, and really wanted to tell you every detail about them... i could almost smell the leather. The new line up, Evans isnt a comedian full stop, Joey (Matt) is a comedian but is playing the cool guy instead - boring. and Sabine is from Germany where comedy is some thing that only other nations do. I think it will flop long term. Shame such a shame i really liked the old Top Gear, episodes will probably be repeated forever like faulty towers.

Shouldn't need a cert for reinforcements of a stock part. Well spotted but I hope it wasn't the immediate previous owner as he should know better!

Good stuff. Don't forget to weld up any cracks and weld in E36 M3 subframe reinforcement mounting points, especially if you're going to go for poly mounts. Cracks are going to happen in all E36s, happened to mine, happened to various friends cars. If you don't this is generally what happens,
