    Absolutely. I'd rather a manual over an auto any day. I plan to have a 6 speed E38 sometime in the near future.

    Have been meaning to make a replacement set of headers for the e36 for a while now, and finally got started on it, it will be good practice for when i do the same thing in the e21, Laser cut flanges, U bends and donuts, all 44mm OD. Jig to hold flanges in factory locations homemade former to shape the ends of the primary tubes primary tube pressed over former to shape end first 2 cylinders... all 4 started, test fitted at this stage, clears steering shaft (just) welding up each pipe individually before welding to flanges... will post more photos when i make some more progress.

    as a daily? Hell, if you're driving in traffic, I have to be honest. I'll take the auto these days, they've gotten much better. Going for a "real drive" - and if I ever get an M3 or 911, yes a manual for sure. But how often to I get to drive purely for the enjoyment? Mostly (and I mean pretty much all the time) I'm driving to get somewhere, like work, or back home, or driving the family around, or on holiday. I started to entertain the idea of auto a little over 20 years ago, living in one of the largest cities in the world. Traffic like you've never seen. I had a Golf GTi manual. My boss had just bought an e30 325e auto. It was clear that for the conditions we usually drove in, the auto was far superior. When we got into the mountains, the manual was the go - but that was about 5% of my time behind the wheel. Thankfully autos have improved these days. Being real for a moment, most of my driving is commuting in traffic, so I confess I actually prefer the auto. And yes, I got my license around cars with non-synchro 1st gear, mastered double de-clutching and heel-and-toe downshifts before I was 16... consider myself a dyed-in-the-wool manual driver. Next car I buy will be the first time I select auto by preference. Perhaps I'm getting old!

    If all else fails MillAnd brought me in a genuine key from Germany, took less than 2 weeks from payment to delivery and came to about $260 inc GST. Far cheaper than the Stealership and only a couple of days slower

    Well time has gone turned and some progress has been made. The issue turned out to be a water leak. Appears this can be a common issue with e60s. There is two common faults that cause water leaks. First and most common is leaves collecting in the window cell vents causing water to pool and leak through average welding that seems to be a common issue with this model. If unchecked the damage the water does is the least of the issues. It can cause rust on a key point in the firewall and car body that can be exceptionally expensive to fix and if noticed by people doing WOFs will mean car is not warrantable. Luckily this was not my specific issue. The second issue which was my issue is the wiring lume which goes from the engine through the firewall about where the driver foot rest is positioned. A rubber Gromit stops water from getting through. When people push additional wires through it pays to check the Gromit is not damaged or half out which was what mine was. Seems the water leak was traced back to this. So some time ago water had pooled and compromised my Active Steering control unit which had already been opened and was more compromised to this condition. The control unit sits in the floor under a foot from the break pedal and is surrounded by foam. You could tell that water damage had occurred on the aluminium. I was warned that the replacement which is $1700 and luckily I am covered by AutoSure cover could mask additional issues. The control unit is the very first thing on the start-up boot log so anything else is suppressed behind this. Today the unit was installed and surprise surprise a new issue is now being reported. I am now waiting on confirmation from insurer that they can proceed to the next stage of part replacement. Hopefully this will be squared away tomorrow. Very complex systems and components within the Active Steering in these cars. Good when it works but not so good when it goes wrong. Anyway I will post an additional update with what is done next and what the outcome is. Some poor sod today who had an e61 was told there transmission failed and needs to be replaced a common issue with the e61 evidently especially around the 100,000km's. The car is worth $6k and the replacement transmission is $12k. The car has been written off. By the way the fix of the welding of the e60 firewall rust bill was quoted at $16k most of it labour due to having to strip out the engine, then the panel work and then the rebuild. Not sure I believe that. Surely it can't be that labour intensive.

    Hi people, Due to having 2x work cars in the family, the trusty X5 is going up for sale.... its just sitting in the garage, so it needs a new home. 04, Nz New diesel sportpac, 210000km well spec'd version, in very good condition with the odd stone chip and blemish to be expected with a car this age/mileage etc. Drives great, HEAPS of Tq and cheap to run.. some of the keys points: conventional springs - not airbags Mk4 Nav Factory ULF Bluetooth Reverse Camera Aux-in BM54 dual tuner radio module Aux heater 10x airbags auto lights and wipers LED angel eyes removable tow bar ((with 2x tongues) with factory trailer module Etc) cargo barrier and boot blind Recently maintenance: Just changed the cracked exhaust manifold with a cast version(common fault with the facelift engines), new air filter, new front caster arm bushes transmission serviced at 150km drives faultlessly.. fuel filter changed about 10k kms ago. had a look around trademe etc, I was thinking $17,000. - let me know if you think its way off and I will consider reasonable offers..     Hankook do S1 EVO 2's in that size but as above. Id swap out all the tyres for a more common size if you are keeping the car.

    It was a good drive alright! To his advantage, he was seeded right down the list, giving him some very swept roads. The top 10 couldn't even accelerate let alone turn on many stages. I love seeing young guys doing well in lesser machines, thats why rally is awesome sometimes, on a blind road it comes down to talent not budget and repetition like it does on a track. The little TI is a great platform for rally, there are some very fast drivers in TI's here in NZ. BMW's were good on ice back in the 90's!

    It is the solution for all rattling wastegates unless they are too far gone and no more room to adjust. Even a rattling wastegate doesnt necessarily mean HP is being lost or none that you can notice. You will know if you are having a boost issue because car goes into limp mode and you get a code. I have done a lot of logging and my actual boost and actual load follow targets near perfectly. You will lose more hp from degrading plugs than a wastegate issue.

    You can buy the bearings and slave cylinder brand new for not much. Just don't buy a throw out bearing until you've decided on the clutch/flywheel combo. I also have a feeling that being lhd the clutch lines are mostly soft except for a 90 turn just before the slave cylinder.
