Yup there is a form for it, but you need to back it up with evidence. A letter from a BMW dealer would probably suffice. I looked into it for my 3201 but was too much effort just for an i. Interestingly the 316i compacts were sold as 316i not Ti, for the E36 at least, and badged as such too. Maybe cos they weren't dohc like the 1.8s?

Careful when selecting a shipping agent. Make sure they visit the closest port to your vehicle often. Had cars sit in the yard over there for a month before they left. Just make sure the car is of a high grade. If there has been any prior damage often you will need an engineers report. I have had grade 3 cars turn up that required me to cut off a rear quarter and stitch it back on because they were not happy with the Jap job. Agent missed the damage... There are a few agents in NZ who will do the whole lot for you. Sitting in customs house getting your paperwork slowly looked over is hair pulling madness. As for collecting the car from the port. It is hard work trying to find a trustworthy transporter. Not only to pick the car up on time. But one that won't rip off anything they can unbolt. Get Insurance that will cover the vehicle right to your driveway.

What do you mean? That car is 100% ac schnitzer. Sorry i mean snitzer. But anyway, afaik, its not that simple yo change what your cars description is. Its usually done when its first registered and thats when the person applying for the rego just puts whatever they want. Heaps of coupes registered as saloons and weird names like "BMW 328ias coupe e36 coupe 2.8L sports" etc

Lucan, I ran AKG 75D in my E30 (all bushes and mounts), BC Gold Suspension - Quality and feel were excellent but drivetrain/road vibrations is what killed it for me even with just weekend driving. I ditched the 75D Engine and Gearbox mounts/BC Golds and went back to OEM mounts, and Bilsteins struts and now feels awesome. If i were to do it again for a street/weekend car I would prob run AKG 95A all around.

It's about as predictable as a lottery result? When we moved to NZ, we used a well-known company to ship our 'stuff' in a container. One of the benefits of this is that MPI 'know' the company and are less likely to open the container to inspect the contents, leading to potentially significant delays. I suspect the same could be true of bringing cars in from overseas - a private individual importing a vehicle may be eyed with more suspicion than a dealer chain buying 200 Nissan Micras at a time.

Unfortunately the write up is pretty poor. Tells me the crowd bringing it in don't really have a clue about what this car is except that it will potentially earn them a bit of lolly. Would be nice if it was all stock for that price tag.

yep, they beat me to it. Thanks Paul and Kyu. I'd be happy to be corrected; all the BMW specialists I've talked to previously have recommended the BMW coolant, as being superior to your standard red or green coolants for use in your common or garden BMW. There are some coolants around that meet BMW specs - such as one of those available from Penrite. Which happens to be green! BMW N 600 69.0 APPROVED is the spec you're looking for. Useful thread here and here (this one contains output from BMW TIS). as always, YMMV.

You must use the genuine coolant mixed to the correct specifications on your 135i or you will risk damaging your electric water pump. BMW coolant has a lubricant in it. There is a special venting (bleeding) procedure that sometimes needs a good quality scanner to carry this out.

The E90 is no E30, and a non-M Sport with cloth seats and wood trims is no bargain IMHO.
