After months of the car sitting and months of me being away, on Sunday I finally managed to find the issue. A factory ground wire where the coil negative (which goes to the ecu, the ecu grounds it to create spark) joins up and splits of to go to the ecu and to the diagnostic connector has a ground wire from factory at the split off, grounding it. So this means the coil is constantly grounded, and was causing a short. I have no idea why it's done like this and how the car was running before, but as soon as we cut the wire the car fired right up. I checked my other wiring harness and it had the same thing. And now with my new ECU, everything is working including the fuel pump relay and ICV. Even fixed the slight miss it had. Drove the car home on Sunday night, yesterday afternoon the v-belt for the waterpump and alternator snapped. Luckily I noticed something was going on and pulled into a side street. Opened the hood to find the snapped belt (which looked to have also flipped beforehand) sitting there. So called up a friend who arranged one to get to me and I changed it then and there. While waiting I took the opportunity to take some new photos. Should have some more updates for this car coming up soon.

From a fairly extensive survey in the local traffic I find that guys tend to be more talking on their phone rather than texting / checking facebook / taking selfies (saw it this morning, young woman in the car behind at the lights, incredible), but yes there are a few younger guys that do the same. Howwever, if there is a car sitting at the lights when they have gone green or not keeping up with the queue 99 times out of a 100 it will be a young woman on their phone that is causing it. I know people have grabbed keys off of tourists due to their sh*t driving, I might have to start doing the same with retards phones..

The RDA slotted/dimpled rotors and EBC Redstuff pads are on the car. She's still at the workshop, picking her up in the morning. Fresh fluid too. Will be giving this setup a good test when I head up North between Christmas and New Years, assuming the traffic isn't crawling everywhere.

Young women (I was going to say girls but that really would have made me sound like a grumpy old git) on their bloody phones while driving. What is sooo important on your Facebook that you want to risk an accident? Half the traffic jams are caused by silly tarts checking their phones and not watching the traffic or the lights. going to go postal over this very soon I think...!

I've had my E39 M5 (ex UK) airbag replaced today. I contacted BMWNZ about a month ago and they advised me to contact an authorised dealer. It included a new cover and emblem. So I'm a happy chappy.

Picked up a X5 4.6is as a new tow wagon. With the Alpina powerplant it seemed like a good idea retrofit a E46 M3 SMG steering wheel. the Easy mod. gives a cool dynamic to the driving experience.

Scored for the E30. New tenants in the unit on the front of where we are renting have temporarily moved down from their farm which sold to a developer, who then decided he wanted them out sooner rather than the agreed time. Talking to them while doing some work and the lad says "there's one of them up on the farm" while pointing at the white E30. "Rusty as hell but if you want anything off it you can help yourself." Got to be worth a look, right? Yup - it's a mess. No glass, no rego, one door, no engine or 'box (apparently it was a manual) but... It does - did! - have 51mm struts. And springs which I don't recognise but which are most definitely not Jamex superlows. And vented discs... Rear shocks were Monroes and looked to be leaking so they stayed where they were. Apparently the poor car had been used as a farm hack for several years.

It left the garage under its own power whoop whoop!!!!! so stoked. A few little things to rectify that i overlooked when building the expansion tank, regular radiator caps dont hold enough pressure for the system and need to relocate the outlet as its sitting too close to the firewall. Unfortunately it wont stay at this height as exhaust clearance is very minimal so will look at a larger tyre and raise the suspension more but still keep the fitment nice. Getting close now, really starting to like the look of the two tone!
