go oem mate.well done dont lower it,daily drivers need to be user friendly as well as friendly to user!I think you will find you have a lot more car in a 5 series than a three series.Once you get the shocks done it will be very nice. The commy may be a better car than most people expect but a 6 speed auto will make all the difference.Look at the acelleration for "overtaking"The beemer kills the commodore, and it will be the gearbox that makes the difference.

Took the alternators off the race car S14B20 and the convertible M20B25 to compare the weights... S14B20 - 6.7kgs, M20B20 spare engine - 6.7kgs, M20B25 - 5.9kgs So will be swapping the B25 alternator into the race car, weighs .8kgs less and is solid mounted, no rubber bushes which the S14B20 one has, so that is also a bonus. You know you are getting serious about weight reduction when you are weighing alternators to find the lightest one...LOL.

Not sure, but probably - he uses You Shop a lot, maybe kiwishipping too??? Because they are 4S's, he could only get them from the Aston Martin dealer here, so he tire-racked them. NZ$4800 here, NZ$2800 there. I must find out what his Mrs drives too. He Has an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, AND a Lotus Elise.

Replaced the engine cooling fan on the 500SE. The old one had been over-tightened by some ham-fisted spanner monkey and had cracked the land the blades mount to. I doubt it would have gone anywhere, but it wasn't spinning true (which won't help the water pump) and besides, I like things to be right.

I have enough trouble as it is obeying the law when it comes to speed so may just leave that off most days lol

I jumped the fence and fitted a suzuki alternator to my M10B20 for my e21, was nearly half the weight, also fitted a honda starter motor, saved somewhere around 4Kg doing both!!

That's the "but darling, I am trying to sell it, I've got it on TradeMe and everything..." approach to car sales if ever i have seen it!

"release your inner bogan". This is how we say "unleash the hounds of hell" in Wellington. And to quote the bloke at the dealership (just quietly), "and it's a BMW V8, they go forever". (Conveniently ignoring M62 timing issues methinks) still, very charming words

here's the comparison table between 2004 545i and 2004 SS Commodore (VZ) from automobile-catalog.com. I'd have linked, but it's a PHP selection and you'd not get the data pre-populated. On paper, it's a pretty close-run thing. The good old 5.7 litre GM V8 with 4 speed auto uses a bit more fuel, but keeps the commode up with the 545i and its more modern (smaller, more fuel efficient) 4.4 litre 4 valve per cylinder all-alloy V8.
