Hi, Well after 10 years of lusting after an e46 M3 I finally have one sitting in the shed :-) its a 2002 with manual box and around 150k on the clock. You may know this car as previous owner was on a couple of forums I believe. It pretty much had all the work done to it that I would have done which has saved me a ton of time and monies, 19" work rims, BC golds, LED lights and a few other bits a pieces. Its Phoenix Yellow, not a colour I ever liked but its growing on me and it nice to have something that stands out. The rear subframe has had the HellBM treatment and I'm hoping its mechanically sounds for a good thrashing ;-) Plans include full service (inspection 2), hopefully a tune from HellBM, some new interior trim to replace worn items, a new steering wheel and racing buckets. and maybe down the road lower diff ratios. This is my third BMW, my plunge into euro cars was an E61 MSport 525 wagon, and that lead to another E61 MSport wagon, this time a 550. Loved both those cars but wanted a weekend warrior that I could swap cogs in. Hoping to hit a track or driver training day.

What really, really gets me about this whole thing, and I still thing there is a lot more to come out on this, is the fact that they kept on blatantly lying. Even once they had been found out, they kept on stalling and lying about solutions, and so on, delaying investigations, etc. And whilst this is a wholly VW issue it has painted the whole of the car manufacturing industry in a bad light and Euro Diesels in particular. How the US of 'Murica can complain about the level of emissions from a 2-ltr diesel engine when they buy over 1 million Ford F-150 pick ups each year is totally beyond me. Maybe it's because they all think that Climate Change is fictional...

Waste of time, could spend 10k and it's still going to be a 5k car tops, even with a wof and rego. Strip it for parts... or... Enter it in the Demo derby. Sam did with his 740i, was fun to watch!

Ironic for Jalopnik, but that story of theirs had a quick and sweet conclusion... http://jalopnik.com/vws-3-0-liter-v6-settlement-explicitly-prohibits-people-1791902670 Namely, dealers don't have to take back stripped cars... Very few of the stripped cars actually got bought back, even fewer after that story went live.

Hopefully VW NZ aren't adopting similar tactics to the Australian VAG arm (I did use capitals then, yes?)... have you seen the stories in the USA where they have a court-ordered (eg compulsory) buy-back scheme where the price is agreed, and the owners then strip their cars and drive them into the dealerships without doors, interiors, bumpers.... sitting on a milk crate, and walk out with their cheques and a bunch of near new VW parts to sell on ebay or craigslist. Well at least that was the intent... link to the Jalopnik story for the image above
