SH1. Pretty much single carriageway from Rangiriri to Pokeno. Roadworks for the expressway... OK. Blocking off one carriageway for a fortnight so they can install metal barriers alongside the carriageway further down (so if you doze off at the wheel, you can bounce back into the traffic, and if you break down, you can't get very far off the road) - ridiculous. Many kms of cones with no sign of anyone working, or even a works vehicle. And then... When you come to the end of the cones (with their 70km speed limit), the speed limit lifts to 100km about 200m further on. So, 2 clear carriageways, a 70km temporary speed limit, and a f^&**G "safety" camera van just before the limit goes up to 100km/h.

I remember when they had it on their yard back in '07. Had a look at it and it was mint. They wouldn't let me test drive it though, so didn't actually drive it. I ended up buying a 1997 NZ new 535i cos from memory I think this was close to $30k! Used to see it parked behind parliament all the time. These 'lil' V8's are awesome - and I think with a manual box will be a pretty cool, fun drive. As they say - a lot of car for not a lot of money! Buy it, drive it, enjoy it, then do what @BM WORLD says - drop in a 4.4l!

The CSL wheels just match the M3s perfectly.

It's the liability issue, exposure to risk & the SOGA along with margins, plus the quality of what is supplied. Some people also want to supply there own parts and also expect you to give them a discount on labour as well. We do not discount our labour. It doesn't work for me, and I'm not interested in the crap when something might fail or go wrong

buy it >> swap out the tiny 3.5l and swap in a 4.4L , job done

Given it's rarity $6k doesn't seem to bad an ask from a dealer: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1380806142.htm Interesting spec, and seems to be in fair condition for it's age - I'd say it'll find a home reasonably quickly (but no, not mine lol).

Found this while trawling the internet, not sure if you've seen it, or it's of any value, but it's a pretty thorough detailing of an M70 rebuild, http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/engineRebuildM70/M70rebuild_1.htm

Few small changes, got some black kidneys. Wasn't a fan when I got the car but they grew on me. Can always revert back to stock if I get sick of em. Also got some H&R springs and spacers to fill the guards out. Haven't installed the springs yet and am in 2 minds about it due to my driveway but will make a decision shortly. With the spacers, I actually really like the factory wheels the spacers have complimented them nicely. Went with 15mm in the front and 12mm in the rear. Not the best picture: Also got a Rieger rear diffuser. Will be painting it and installing this weekend. Should look similar to this once installed: Also picked up some 5d carbon wrap, will have a go at wrapping the brushed aluminium trim in the car, this stuff seems to be the closest to the real carbon look so should turn out pretty good. Also easily reversible if it doesn't work out. It's all been cosmetic improvements lately, have been enjoying driving the car otherwise, have not had a single issue with it. Actually drove it daily to work for a couple weeks and was really suprised at the economy. Obc showed 10.5l/100km and that's in Auckland traffic to and from the CBD. Almost as economical as my old Honda! Have heard of a lot worse from other owners but those were mainly n54's. I've recently just done the plugs and coils so not sure if they've helped or not. Either way, i'm happy. Have a big trip to Europe coming up so mods will be on hold for a little while. When i'm back and the wallet recovers i'll look at finishing off the performance mods, starting with freeing up the exhaust and installing the intercooler and downpipe.

Also, what are your jumper leads like? Cheap sh*t small ones? If so - they are a waste of time & shouldn't be sold. I go out to numerous AA calls where the member has tried jump starting with no success. Is almost always these leads that were used. E39's are a pain with the separation of the jump terminals & you will be farting against thunder to start with a little jump pack on the battery. As Kyu says - connect the leads & run the Toyota for a few mins to get some surface charge into the BMW battery. Ign lock notice?

Yes I would not use them, the magnetic sump plugs might start drawing the high mileage steel components down towards the plug, causing catastrophic damage to your engine. I'm surprised these vehicles have provided you good service past the 100k shut off point

Tyres are just black tubes on your wheels. If the air stays in the bottom they're all good to go...so long as there's tread on them and your only doing 80k

I would recommend them to give you evidence that there was a f**k up. Metal on the sump plug would be good to use in court. Insurance would be doing it right or paying someone to do it right who has public liability insurance. They are also heavier than the new plastic ones that give you a weight advantage on performance that the manufacturers are introducing along with getting rid of those heavy dip sticks.

Unfortunately Oxford is down in Canterbury (about 40min out of Christchurch) so you have the cost of the ferry to deal with, extra kms and the time taken. It would work out less than $1000, I've done it in the past flew to Auckland and drove a car back down here, nice road trip but you really have to weigh up the time vs money saved equation. Viskop if you decide you're keen on the car have a think about your costs involved and P.M me a offer you can work with and I'll see if it will work for me.

Got around to taking the front subframe out and had everything media blasted. Then the same mate who did my cage welded the garagistic sway bar and engine mount reinforcement kit on -lad. Gave it a fresh coat of black and fitted up the e36 rack, 20mm sway bar with powerflex bushes, new links and ball joints all round, and finally put those offset Revshift CAB's on. The hybrid steering linkage was a bit of a mission but it works great and has given me a heap more room for the exhaust. Also bolted the manual pedal box in and made a start on stripping back some of the unnecessary wiring.

was reading the other day that the bigger (totally ignored in media issue) is the growing friction between India and china, both nuclear over their shared border and the whole nepal region A lot of this is misrepresented. I think most believe in climate change, its hardly deniable but disagree that its all because of humans and we all must pay carbon taxes etc. That is taking a natural occurrence and using it to profit. the world has had 4 ice ages already, any large solar flares or heating could alter the earth faster than any humans. I read that if you stretch both arms out to represent the time the earth has existed, the length of one hand represents the dinosaur period and if you trimmed your fingernails you would wipe out human existence therefore on a 5-6 ft scale humans rate about 3mm. logic would suggest we aren't that important Not saying we shouldn't recycle and clean our oceans etc use clean fuels but technology will help watch elon musks talk on youtube about inhabiting mars, what an amazing brain

Yeah It was late and they didn't sync to my iPad off my phone. Ive almost finished shimming the cams, every intake and exhaust are exactly the same .22 intake and .33 exhaust

The very same, travelled through a lot of hands since then, quite the laundry list of repairs to attend to now, but the price was right, and my garage is a home for wayward beamers.

$1200 for the plate is a rip-off. Where that leaves $795 for someone placing an order is a whole new game. The whole private plates thing in NZ is a rort. No competition, so prices are sky high.

There is a buy sell photography group on Facebook but it's slow moving, the owner of the group started a photography based online website/auction thing i think, i looked at it for a few seconds but also seemed very slow moving. If I saw more value from trademe, like customer service that provided customer service, or a feedback system that wasn't inherently flawed, i'd feel less raw about it, I use it, because there are no alternatives, and I'd say I conservatively contribute 2k or so per annum to their coffers in success fees, I don't see how they can justify a fee so high for high value items, ostensibly the cost to them to list an item worth $10 and an item worth $1000 are about the same, I'm sure they have a cost per click as well, they used to have a sliding scale I'm sure, around 8% for low value dropping to something like 3.5% back when it was still under Sam Morgans leadership, at least they don't charge for more than one photo any more, but to say I benefit from $112 of 'advertising value' forgets that i've already probably paid $20 in extra listing fees to give myself a better chance of selling said high value item... the money goes off shore too, i think that pisses me off the most.
