Thank you... and the clientele that I work for and enjoy working for is probably not the same as the people who are commenting here. My reasons are for the first thread I posted on this subject. I don't work for labour only and I don't discount my labour, I don't fit parts supplied unless by agreement with a client, I don't get told what or how much I will charge. I choose who I do work for and what I will work on. I don't need the stress or exposure to risk and I really enjoy doing what I do using quality parts that I have control over and being able to do my work to a high standard that has a quality back up of 1.5 million dollars of public liability which I have only had to use twice since 1986. I'm also supported by by network of suppliers who guarantee their products. If I offended anyone with my blunt statement... tuff. I can take it and get insulted at least once a week by 21 year olds that tell me how to repair there pieces of sh*t , what I will charge and how to do it, which I refuse to work on anyway. I will also add that I am not insinuating that any of the people commenting on here own pieces of sh*t, I just didn't put it across appropriately in a post up there ^^^^^ Using this scenario: Go to your local special restaurant... take cheap cut of meat and an imported crayfish with you. Put it on the table and tell the chef how much you will pay him to cook it to the same standard you had there a month ago ? Do you think he might be slightly insulted ? I'm only interested in dealing with people who want a quality repair done to a high standard at a reasonable price with guarantees, and my costs are always able to be negotiated... I have a phone number

Been lurking in the shadows, finally thought I would introduce myself and my cars. Brought my first car February which is a 525i factory manual and the second one I picked up recently for cheap which is a 525i auto, just couldn't resist another one. I started out looking to get a E36 as a mate has one but once I saw the E34 I knew I had to get one (two). Thanks

So I think I found the problem... Fingers crossed replacing this fixes it (pretty sure it will haha) Here's the tool picture you asked for @Olaf

Me? Today? Kerb-kissed my left front wheel ascending the car parking building this morning. Arggghhhhh. Oh well, nobody hurt other than my bruised pride. I think the cosmos is suggesting I should be walking to work.

I installed my own intercooler, charge pipe bov, plugs coils etc , but harder stuff I have payed workshops to install. Even the easy stuff I get them to do now as I just dont have the time. All the aftermarket stuff can't be sourced here ( LSD , downpipes, upgraded LPFP) so I I pay them to install when I bring down and I have used places I know do great work. I am pretty sure I havent insulted any of them but I will double check

Haha, I meant 1/2" and 1/4" drive, I always found 3/4" to be pointless, just racking up the part count in the tool box without actually giving you more tools (bottom of 3/4" sizes duplicated by 1/4", and higher 3/4" sizes duplicated by 1/2")

Sounds like an oxymoron ;-) You can't beat a good tool. In other news, I took delivery of an intercooler today ;-)

Go Bahco! They have an amazing tool set at Mitre 10 right now for like $229, has basically only Metric, so more of the sockets are useful, 1/2" and 1/4", plus a full spanner set and 3 double ended articulated socket spammers.

I do agree with this. I bring my own parts to my mechanic on occasion. As I travel for work I stock up on filters via US suppliers when I'm there. One time I bought a Continental belt for a car of mine and they installed it for me. The bloody thing seems to have been defective from the factory and noisy. So I had to go back, pay again for labour and a new belt. They're good sports and I've been going there for a while so they cut me a break on some of the labour. Imagine if the belt had snapped or something? I assume that would be on me. But that's because I'm a reasonable person. Likewise, some people complain about shops adding margin to parts. If the guy has to spend time ringing around and ordering stuff rather than me then he should be able to cover that with some margin.

Saw a gorgeous blue e60 m5 driving into the RSA up here. Two child seats in the back. Full daily driver glory.

I honestly don't know how dealers do it, the sheer f***wittery on display with some of the questions asked- What has it been used to tow, when was the cambelt changed... Srsly. Fools.

"Climate Change" = one weekend we're underwater, the next I'm frozen. Meh whats pneumonia got on BMW progress.... While it rained Friday night, I played with some polymorph thermoplastic as a material to set some mirror bases. Meh, ended up making a HUR of a handle for a filleting knife for bigger Gt Barrier catches instead. Ended up using some marine ply, working the mirror base contour and then belt sanding the rough contour of the mirror. Its a start. Sat & Sun was progressing with engine bay fuel fittings, finishing off wiring loom and mounting the fuel pressure regulator for the new port injection. I hung this off one of the manifold studs, the same one that stabbed my hand pushing on a new fuel line fitting to a cold hose, at least blood helped slide it on. B'stard! Used the same wire protectors to cover wires extended for throttle body and pre manifold MAP sensor. The rest fit ok. Lost half a kg trimming the engine cover to fit the injectors. Likewise closing off the replacement of all beefy fuel lines and fuel return upgrades. The first pic shows zip ties all over the place. The RHS shows one dash6 fuel return from the low pressure port injection rail to the tank, one dash6 450GPH fuel pump supply feeding through a fuel filter, and one dash6 line feeding into a 2-1 junction. The LHS side shows the same fuel return, with a dash8 main fuel feed line to both the high pressure pump and port injection rail. Uses aeroquip push lock fittings, some used from another project. Modified the stock fuel line brackets to make room for these. Yip, I'll trim the zip ties and rotate the ugly bits. The fuel tanks RHS bucket needed a fitting drilled through to feed the third pumps outlet, seen carefully as the vertical black line fitting at the top. The main line feed is horizontal from the white plastic, both unattached. The tripe pump setup is now installed in the tank, just needs the hat installed to the bucket. I get limited work time before I get a bit dizzy sniffing fumes, hence slow progress here. Two large hand working a small hole, damn....Black random wire heads to the new intake manifold hobbs switch that closes at 15psi, to trigger the relay and fat fuse to power the other two pumps for the port injection to get ready for action. re As for these mirrors, damn. The glass itself is so convex that you could mount the mirrors in a wide range of positions and still see back. But the key thing is here, visually, how do we want hem to look? Check some mean pics of hot DTM machines. I see some upward angle ala hornet wings style, alongside some possible inward angle...nothing a belt sander cant deal with right? The ex. manifold and steering column shat are almost done. Gotta beat this delivery and get the new setup ready for round 2....

If it's so straight forward and you have a video on how to do it. Why can't you then do it your self ?? I find your statement of a professional just charging labour to fit supplied parts at a labour cost only insulting to the professional repairers in our industry.
