Yep that too Jon. Muppets on TM selling "cheap" LED H4 etc replacement bulbs with LED's plastered all over them (which give a totally uncontrolled light beam output) & a small disclaimer - not for use on the road. WTF else are you going to use an H4 bulb for? Joe Bloggs buys these obliviously & fits to the said Bongo etc - only to blind every poor bastard coming towards them. The proper H4 LED replacement has the LED's positioned in the exact location of the original bulb filaments - meaning the light is projected off the reflector in the same pattern as the bulb. And you are right - so many of these fall through the cracks at WOF time.

For anyone wondering as I was, here's an E39 with Style 66's, fairly similar to the ones in images above, apparently image uploading is currently bung, but embedding is not. http://imgur.com/4xBfdpg

Isn't this the one that had its head gasket replaced due to overheating issues?

Tried an alternative tune for the system. The 5.25 inch ppi drivers weren't giving the mid bass performance I was after where as the sub could quickly overwhelm the system. Ive changed the cross over points so the 5.25s now crossover at 97hz and brought the sub upto 100 Hz. I've also reduced the sub output by -10 db. I've offset the passenger side by a 20 cm time delay to sync with sub distance and then adjusted time delay on drivers door speakers until I hear a mono image in centre stage. The result has been better than expected without the perception of bass coming from behind. Midbass has improved emencly and finally the system is well balanced with good up front sound. I'm ready now to start fine tunning the 1/3 octave equalisers on each channel via a microphone. Also need to sort out the photobucket mess in this thread

Thanks for that. It's not for a business, it's just a spare car I have for parts and some other parts. I have asked how I can go about sponsoring the forum but I haven't heard back from anyone

When you said open slather I thought you were talking about the lights fitted to cars on the roads in NZ Hotwire.. I see all sorts of crap when I am driving around town, blacked out lights, blue headlights, red heahlights, bongo vans lit up like Christmas trees, etc. Just buy any old cheap sh*t of TradeMe and slap it on your car, don't worry about the rules. Probably all still get a WoF though.. Back the original post, I can't see anything immediately obvious to make the lights illegal, the blacked out backing is legal from the factory I think so you should be Ok, used to need to be made to meet certain standards. Your average WoF inspector would probably not notice as long as they are correctly aligned and have the right beam pattern.

@Driftit What part of DC did you end up in? I spent a bit of time in DC on a work assignment years ago, will never forget the night I got lost near the Wallmart around Landover... I don't think that was one of the nicer parts of town. But near the main part, the Mall and such, the architecture just kept flooring me, so gothic, i didn't expect that at all.

Took it in to get a once over today... turns out the "service" the dealer did was done; and the gasket repair noted in the PPI was done too - just had to clear some codes. Had the vanos solenoids cleaned out, and code removed. Also, the wobbly rear end turned out to be a quite munted shock absorber - so had both rears replaced... and voila! Now it handles properly whilst driving responsibly up SH58

Managed the "grand slam" over the week-end, got to drive all of my Bimmers, a very rare feat as they are hardly ever all running / legal at the same time. F30 company car - poodling about town, etc. Took the wife's E46 wagon to tow the E30 race car to Hampton Downs and back, then pulled the E30 'vert out of the garage to blow the cobwebs out as it was such a nice day on Sunday. Overall quite happy, a few little niggles to look at, but nothing too major.

Totally agree, the early stuff is so much better, Love Song is a great track, plus The American and my favourite New Gold Dream. i don't think they would have been so popular if they stuck with their original name - Johny & The Self-abusers!!

I had replace the battery not too long ago. Pretty sure it has only had BMW coolant . . . Driscolls use BMW coolant in Bimmers. They gave me a bottle gratis at one point for top ups. The diligence with which you maintain your vehicles has to make you one of the best people to buy a car off! Always a good plan to buy off an enthusiast.
