I had a look at this M5 the other day and can confirm that the Turners photos definitely do not do this car justice. It is probably one of the best examples that you could find in NZ. Great overall condition, not super-mint, but obviously very well cared for and totally original as far as I can see. The idea of a grey interior with Violet exterior sounds not so great on paper, but in the flesh I think that it actually works. It has seude side bolsters (a little rubbed up on the drivers seat, but nowhere near wearing through) and "M-rain" grey fabric inserts. Gear knob would need replacing to tidy it up, and the steering wheel is a little shiny, but otherwise looking very clean and way better than any e34 interior that I have seen recently. If I owned it, the first thing I would do would be to change the chrome detailing around the side windows to Shadowline black. And probably delete the lower silver grey trim to body colour. And put some proper tyres on it (has some Bridgestone "Sporty Style" Japanese import numbers on it) I have attached a few slightly better photos.

Just speculating, but probably a Japanese import. Looks like it is good condition. Unlike the majority of the NZ new cars that had the comfort seats, this has the nicer sports seats and M-tech steering wheel. 20 plus years ago when I embarked on sourcing a 635csi, I found it frustrating that the majority of NZ cars didn't have the sports interiors.

Does look well priced, if there are no issues waiting to be found. Over 100kms, imported, small ugly rims are only down sides. Service history would be nice to know on these. Very limited market for the 5 Series Touring now, which is a shame as they are such a great car, most people want an X3 / X5 SUV it seems, probably because they are the latest trend.

Easy there fella, I think we have had enough death threats over this already. Lets keep it relevant to the OP from now on please and thank you.

Cat delete! I have been tossing up when to do this, and now that i have the ability to code out cat enrichment and protection i decided it was time to get rid of them. Its certainly a lot louder, obnoxious resonation at 2.5k too. Think i might need another x-pipe to help with that. Will post about the coding later.

In a moment of weakness we bought a set of these BBS RG-R wheels off a bloke in Osaka. Being on a budget we shipped them down on the slow boat and they arrived a couple of weeks ago. It took too long for us and we have moved the car on for which they were intended SPECS 18x8.5 ET 38 18x10 ET 25 Centre Bore : 72.6 Stud Pattern 5x120 BMW The RG-R rim is renowned for the forged construction and the relative lightness of the wheel less than 10kg as I recall. Plus of course just a handsome wheel. Colour silver with BBS centre caps. We have refurbed them as there were a couple of marks on two rims . So they a minty set of rims in Christchurch. Still in the boxes they arrived in. FOR SALE $2200.FOB and can deliver to MainFreight although they are more courier sized. Queries PM me, thanks for reading.

Surprise, surprise.......... I called this monkey out as a hack job years ago & he had a decent attempt at harassing me through email & PMs Nice to see his crappy 'engineering' is coming back to haunt him! Just a shame he scammed a bunch of people out of their $ in the process

Got the Vibrant resonators sitting in my boot and booked in with an exhaust shop to weld them in on Tuesday. Took the car for it's first decent backroad thrash since getting it back. Just ran the MHD Stage1+ tune since I want to see how it copes, and I'd have to pay to get stage 2. Not sure I should bother since I probably need a custom tune. Firstly it sounded absolutely f**king epic when driven hard, I'm sure the country farmers could hear revving and crackling sounds for miles. Logs look good, virtually no timing corrections on full acceleration https://datazap.me/u/matth5/upgraded-turbo-mhd-stg1?log=0&data=3-4-6-14&solo=6&zoom=5348-5419 Boost below target but consistent, I think that's just the MHD map. Upgraded turbo/DV/catless DP result in the car feeling much more responsive than I remember, barely even feels like a turbo, it builds boost so fast. The fun ran out when the brake pads faded after a few minutes of hard driving. I think low dust pads don't cut it for this car, certainly not when it's tuned.

The E34 is and will always been the last old era BMW before they switched to the newer generation style, that were noticeably different in quality, different plastics, less glass and such things. The other main difference was a lot more network based electronics too. The E34 to E39 difference is pretty significant, as is the E30 to E36, E32 to E34 etc They all have their pros and cons I think. Style wise the E34 remains the definative BMW for me, like an E30. If I bought another BMW it would probably be an E34, I loved my old one!

At least we can all agree its got nothing on the Leaf, inside and out The exec leather with wood trims etc on later models do look much better. Here my old one which i replaced the lower dash panels with black items - looked much better than the random grey\black mixture i thought

    Mmm BMW at it's best.
  24. 1 point
Well that's subjective. Many would agree the E34 M5 is one of the most iconic BMWs of all time, inside and out.

Easy choice. E61 530i M-Sport LCI. The E91 isn't fast enough (unless it's a 335i) to counter the E61s superior size and comfort. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1408654204.htm https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1421022125.htm edit: neither of the above are facelift unfortunately but they do pop up frequently.

I went for an E61 to replace my e39 touring, heaps of space, beautiful cruising car, mine is 07 Lci and the idrive is showing its age now, cant get up to date nav DVDs etc, engine wise I believe the diesels are probably the most sensible choice in these, which is why I got the M5!

Old thread but i had this issue and used a paste type product from CRC called paint doctor and a nice micro fiber cloth. You rub on leave for ten minutes the buff off. I was amazed. Works perfectly.
