Been pretty quiet on this build for a while, ran a bearing back in June so it's been up with Kayne Barrie for a rebuild. Couple of shots while the master was at his work: 20884884_1507597005930171_650205220_n by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 20904324_1507597182596820_1871693703_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 21684668_1535529916470213_553786645_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 21845349_1535529956470209_768997783_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr New crank, gaskets, bearings etc. Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Kayne replaced the clutch and got the guys at Autospeed Engineering in Pukekohe to recondition the head: 20891530_1507597055930166_44621757_n by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Back now, and looking pretty good sitting in decent company..! Well I bought this a while back for $103 lol. Cage wasn't homogulated and is too small diameter main hoop to get one now as NZ motorsport rules have changed since it was done. So it was basically good for nothing except for me to cut out and send to the scrappy...felt wrong to do but whatever haha Seatbelt mounts are undone as I'm currently cutting cage to fit properly and welding some plates on to make it bolt in, will fit with them in place when I'm done. Quite surprised how well it goes in and out seeing as its one piece. The bottom of the back seat will go in, back part would have to be hacked up....But in saying that pretty sure your not meant to have any rear seating in place with a half cage, I'll probably just make some nice covers to clean up the back area

Have tried activating but nobody home, I'll give it a few more goes and bleed the system incase there is poo in a valve New unit, not s/h I do not know what codes the old unit had sadly, but I do think it may have just been a non-communicating one Before I was given this beast it had been to the local dealership for coding, but they could not find the fault with it, so I am told. I'm a wee bit concerned that perhaps this new unit has been dropped or something of the sort

Some person thought it would be a good idea to park this outside work the other day, and then make me drive the bloody thing for two hours.

Took the girlfriend to Kaikoura for a day trip. Also gave the wee red best a wash both before and after . Had an attempt at drifting on tarmac at the drift track, however being precious about breaking the car and open diff life resulted in not too much sideways action but still good fun! Photos to come from more recent updates too!

Little update. Got new headlights, decided I wanted it to look more modern so got some LED's Before: After A smoke test revealed a failed grommet in the back of the intake manifold, hopefully that is the reason it stalls when returning to idle. A scan revealed the airbag module is faulty along with the oil level sensor. Parts are on there way... Got an OEM tow bar complete with towing module from Ray. It's in, just need to extend the loom to make it to the LCM.

A rare classic parked in Wellingtons CBD. Had a quick chat to the owner and this is one pristine example. Owner didn't say out right but hinted that it has had a full no expense resto. And man did it sound sweeeeet! 1971 Holden Monaro GTS (genuine too!):

For me personally, I drove 3 examples of 4.0 liter 840ci autos previously and every time walked away feeling underwhelmed -sad considering I had dreamt about owning a 8 since I was young in 1990. However, when I test drove my 4.4 manual I felt it was very different and a lot more fun. Definitely felt quicker. Not sure why BMW seemed to think that autos were the way to go for the E31- they do feel rather nice with a manual gear-box.

some lag. but if you calculate the actual volume involved, and then compare it to the amount of air moved by spooling turbo, you can pretty quickly see what the turbocharger is moving far more volume than you think and puts the charge piping volume in perspective. people do all sorts of things to decrease the charge piping length, but there are better places to put your time and money. also with a 5-6L v12 engine, you are moving a lot of exhaust gas energy.

That's a little misleading. The cheapest M5 you will probably find in the UK is about £6,000 (at least one that hasn't done 180,000 hard miles). So that's $12,000 right there. Add £1,500 / $3,000 for shipping, £300 / $600 in agents' and port fees in the UK, freight insurance of £200 / $400, GST at 15% (CIF basis so 15% of car cost, insurance cost and freight cost) freight, and then another $200 in agents' fees here in NZ. So $12,000 becomes closer to $20,000 before you can legally have the car released by customs from the agents' yard. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Thanks Swordfish I didnt think of that, ill make sure i check them from time to time... ok just a quick up date, i got my car back today, and am very pleased with the work that was done, its quite exciting having my first caged car I found myself sitting it making broom broom noises after work. I also weighed it and the whole cage weighs 50kg i was very surprised i thought it would have weighed more...
