Been pretty quiet on this build for a while, ran a bearing back in June so it's been up with Kayne Barrie for a rebuild. Couple of shots while the master was at his work: 20884884_1507597005930171_650205220_n by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 20904324_1507597182596820_1871693703_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 21684668_1535529916470213_553786645_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 21845349_1535529956470209_768997783_o by Christian Taylor, on Flickr New crank, gaskets, bearings etc. Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Kayne replaced the clutch and got the guys at Autospeed Engineering in Pukekohe to recondition the head: 20891530_1507597055930166_44621757_n by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Back now, and looking pretty good sitting in decent company..! For safety sake i wouldn't use harnesses without a cage, harnesses are made to hold you in the seat and upright. in the unfortunate even of a rollover you will be unable to move and the with no roll cage to protect you from the roof collapsing could cause very adverse effects. I feel these harness bars are more built for looks than functionality.....i understand why you want to run harnesses but also why put your life at risk? Just my thoughts on it anyway......

Reg SI7288. Used to be owned by Peter Robinson who sold it to the good doctor Malcom Abernethy in Wellington who repowered it with an M34B30, Believe current owner is Dean Edkins who also has the original engine for it as well.

A quick check and BMW fans show a few listed these three for a manual trans17111436060, auto 17111436061, with S823A 17111436063. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search_2016.cgi?command=DWsearch&LastVisited_input=0414&make=BMW&description=17111436063 just to give you an idea of price

Good job Christian, not exactly something you plan to fork out for, but at least it future proofs the engine for another 10 years+ and helps with resale value, if you part with it at some stage. Now to take it for some good open road drives!

It's definitely quieter, no rattle on cold start (Kayne refreshed Vanos too) and generally runs a lot smoother. It does seem to pull a bit harder, tho that might be due to dailying a Kia for the past few months (anything would seem fast in comparison..!)

Looking good man, like the wheels . . . know your pain with the washers, had to do them on my 535i msport. Washer bottle was full of some seriously nasty gloop . . . managed to get it out without taking the wheel off though. Enjoy it, you bet me to it . . . so making do with a 303km replica of yours . . . love the extra omph of the 540i over the 535i Cheers
