May I ask why you’re looking at parting it out? It seems like a pretty good car, so unless I’m missing something I see no reason to part it out,

Parts are coming off this weekend. Parts still available listed below. Parts: M30B35 Engine - 180,000kms, complete with loom, ECU, AFM, manifold and all accessories etc. No AC. Will supply with E28 engine mounts and adapters if you are looking at putting it into an E28. No guarantees on if it will pass cert, but I had no issues for the past two years in my car. $1200 or make an offer. Full E28 exhaust will be included for extra $200. Remotec 16x8 et20 Wheels - Very good condition, no curbing at all. No center caps, had redrill to other bolt pattern as well which I never bothered to measure. The 5x120 is the factory drilling. I recently refinished these with mirror polished lips and painted centers. All four have tyres but tyres are nearing their end, 2x Achillies ATR Sport and 2x Goodyears. 225/50R16s all round. Shocks probably blown. No guarantees for cert on these but will make a good base. - $400 Mtech Seats/Interior Blue Vinyl - Overall very good condition. Hey fam. Noob to BMWs. Been driving cars 22 years.... driving this makes me feel like a learner 2008 530D Only plan I have is make it last forever. Keep it going and in top condition. Hopefully there are plenty of tips around to help do so. Read the rules. Pics still from my phone. But yeah. Still a solid shot.

Put the 520i back together- new viscous fan hub, fan, thermostat and housing, waterpump, belts and its pulley and a few other bits. Spent a long time chasing a coolant leak- I had forgotten to put in the o-ring that seals the thermostat Gave the Titansilver 530i touring a check over, heading up to Northland tomorrow so don't want any surprises.

I'd stick with the S8, it's stylish unique car, few compare. The BMW substitutes seem bland and generic. All will have their problems I suppose.

I wanted to let this one go and I nearly did but....... In my experience it boils down to maintenance/repairs vs performance. For maintenance/repairs I am happy to let the shop do what they have to do, and there are a number of shops who do this and do it well and to be fair dont need to look at performance work because they are very busy fixing Euro cars that have proven to be somewhat less reliable than their Japanese counterparts. A great business model really. For performance, parts are often the hurdle; they are just not available here and workshops as noted above are focussed on repairs maintenance. Workshops often default to parts available in NZ which may or may not be the best solution for a performance upgrade and with DIY tuning options like COBB, MHD etc it is fitting and final troubleshooting/tuning that is wanted. (This of course may lead to maintenance/repair work as components fail when under stress) The problem with performance upgrades is that it is often the domain of the Flat Peak crowd with a clapped out Japanese sh*t box, no money and big dreams. But in the HSV FPV world a lot of tuners emerged who could meet the demand of the cashed up bogans and that segment were quite willing to pay, as a result that segment went upmarket and got away from its bogan/hoon roots and became professional. What we have in NZ is a lack of Euro tuning shops. Audi, VW, BMW and to a lesser extent MB now all have forced induction engines and chassis that respond well to basic upgrades. Forced induction is the cornerstone of the tuning world. We need a few shops who understand that mindset and can provide solutions. Fair to say we dont have that at the moment.
