Hey all I'm a longtime BMW admirer, first time owner. It was the E30s that first caught my eye back in the day, and I've always had a soft spot for the wagons. Finally, after many years of dreaming, my 2007 E91 320i Touring arrived yesterday. Naturally, I'm very very happy - in my eyes, she's a thing of beauty. I look forward to trawling the forums picking up as much advice as I can. Cheers from Dunedin geords

Welcome. I would advise getting mechanical warranty for your car, as the engine in it is known to be problematic one.

I had one of that spec/colour when I lived in Brissy - was a great little run around. Cheap and chuckable! GLWS

^^^^ This. Or it may not infact be a coil issue but instead a vacuum leak causing cyl 3 misfire

Definitely worth it Life isn't fun unless you have a BMW to work on.

For the windscreen end I’d wrap it in tex or cloth tape so it doesn’t rattle and pull it back into the area above the map lights For the trunk module if you have an ibus (e39 and e46) based car it can be unplugged and the car will forget the module. I took the harness out of my e46 loom, but spent hours studying circuit diagrams before doing so. For a fibre based car such as e60 / e90 I’d be inclined to leave the vics module alone.

Can we safely rule out that it is not a coil pack issue? The demo one you tried could it be a dud? You can easily swap coil packs around each cylinder etc and see if the misfiring moves with the coil.

    Paid $7500 for our black one at 138000km 2 years ago. If it was a factory manual maybe . . . . . . .

I pulled apart the radar receiver on my (ancient) Escort Passport SR7 (permanent install) the other day, cleaned all the contacts, etc etc, put it back together, but was not optimistic that I had addressed the continual "self calibration error" on startup... Today I drove it including multiple starts and the device performed without hitch - which is a first since owning the car.. Optimism grows...

Thought I would chip in here. We got our 535i Touring last week and took it away for the weekend. We managed 800km to the tank and just over 8L/100km. From West Auckland to Huntly it averaged 6.9 These things are super frugal for what they are! Grunty enough but certainly not that quick. Handling with the active steering is great and the ride superb. On the whole it's a perfect family sport wagon.
