Hi Team sorry for the lack of update, have a had a few 1st bday parties to attend past few weekends and have managed to tee up an affordable work shed to move into, went half with a good friend. So busy moving all the toys into the workshop. Also managed to pick up a spare parts car which came with a spare motor and box too. Some of you may have seen the Hamann PG2 for sale with the hole in one barrel, yes i couldn't help myself. So though to myself how am i going to fix this on the cheap. Brought some 3 piece Jdm wheels so have also started stripping them to hopefully get the Hamann centers bolted in and have a lower offset. Also got a finished lsd diff refurbed from the man himself Kayne Barrie. Can't wait to stick this sucker in the car. So thats where everything is at the moment, will start attacking the motor in the next few weekends.

April 2017. The era of Gymkhanas had come to a close and it was time to sell the trusty STi. unbeknownst to the flat-4, my eyes set elsewhere. She was sleek, Italian, two wheels, absolutely insane, and I needed one. As 2017 progressed, my love affair took the form of two Italian two-stroke sports bikes, both of which exhilarated me, but as the months started to pass, I began to worry more and more about firing them off a cliff and not coming home. I remembered the thousands of kilometers i spent with my various cars, pushing each one and loving every second of it. I yearned for long twisty mountain runs, I desired the roar of high displacement engines, I missed air-conditioning. So I began the search, my requirements were simple; lightweight, high grip, and cheap to modify. This led me down the route of something akin to a Type R Integra, then my partner one day surprised me with his DC5-R, so it was back to the drawing board. Should I conform and get some filthy skyline? Or perhaps sink all my funds into the 80's mr2 sitting around the back and embrace being forever poor? Then one day, my landlord visited in his E92 M3. AND HE GAVE ME THE KEYS. I knew I could never afford an E92, but just as every car enthusiast should know, I too was very aware of her older, slightly unhinged sister. What I wasn't aware of, was how affordable they really were. A deep blue one popped up. I and the landlord went out and had a look. She was nice, but not worth the asking, then a yellow one popped up. Cheap, but had a very sketchy history. About 4 months later, just as i had given up and started looking for some RFB stickers, SHE popped up. and my goodness, was she something. I didn't hesitate, I contacted her owner and booked an inspection. YES! she passed with flying colours! Ok then, better tell the boss i'm not going to be in on Friday. Why? Because i'm about to make the biggest decision in my millennial life! The plane landed and i stepped out of the shoebox of an airport. There she was. It was like i'd waited a lifetime to see an old friend. My eyes tinted rose. She really was as beautiful as they said. It took the whole of 80 minutes before her owner reluctantly handed me the keys, making me promise that should I ever decide to sell her, to get in touch with him first. If you made it through that essay of a write up, then congratulations! After the 7.5hr drive back to Auckland and consequent de-bugging, she's now settling into her new home. The whole household have made her very welcome! As have the small handful of friends she's already surprised! So without further Adieu, here she is! Imola red Manual 145000ks Fully documented and thorough servicing history, with photographed works including the vanos refresh about 30000ks back. Aside from the K&N filter and Eibach lowering springs, Completely original (even talked him into including the OEM bits!) I absolutely cannot wait to meet everyone and start taking her out. She does need a new set of tyres and brake pads, but really whats that in the grand scheme of things!!

Agree with @SmithyInWelly and @Eagle - a bonus that it is a members car and local ? I've had a couple of E39's - they are such a great balanced car! Approach it as an 18 year old car that will require some maintenance at some point but it is a hell of a lot of car for the asking price. If I was in the market, @str8_6's endorsement would be enough for me to purchase. Good luck!

Hi Boston, The vehicle you linked to is my car. Happy to arrange a time to show you. There are no leaks, I’m pedantic. Power steering hoses have been replaced as well as recent thermostat housing and thermostat. This was replaced as the o-ring on the sensor was weeping. There is service history and history of transmission service. Previous owner of 10 years used this as a long distance car and had another car as their shopping trolley. This isn’t a worn out high mileage car. I bought it sight unseen, from a Wellington based owner, drove it home and it instantly reminded me why the e39 was one of the best. The 3 litre is the best pick for daily driving. I’m only selling as I can’t have three cars on the driveway.

Hi Team – although I've enjoyed owning my 3rd 540i – I'm bored two years in and looking for something different to drive. Have my eye on a W210 E55 at the moment. It's been awesome on long runs from Auckland to my place in the Hokianga and I'd like something similar (E55 fits the bill) Any thoughts on valuation for a 2003 540i with 132k on the clock? Is stock apart from BBS wheels and aftermarket stereo. I have maintained it at The Toy Shop with annual services. Recent work includes 2 x coils, cam covers and alternator. Michelin Pilot Sports all around installed last year. Condition wise I'd say 8/10. I know the market pay what it will pay, I note that a 2002 540i that looked rough with 200 plus kms sold for $5250 recently. My thoughts on this example: $9000 Any thoughts or interest welcomed. Ace, Mr D.

TBH the KM is the only thing going for it over any other auto import silver 540i, and auto import silver 540i dont go for much these days. As Kyu said, the wheels although nice, wont help it make much more money. Might almost be worth picking up a cheap set of standard motorsport wheels and selling the BBS separately? The other issue is that anyone who knows BMWs will know the timing chains are a ticking time bomb since they havent been done.

    ^ I like 50% of that post. And it's it's not the BMW 50%.

Start simple. Check for exhaust leaks and vacuum leaks Your noise and bad idle may or may not be related. Screw driver to the ear or a tube/hose to pinpoint noises

Hi everyone, For the past eight or so months my 6-cylinder e46 has been making a ticking noise which has gradually started sounding more like a tractor and less like a BMW. The problem started after I got new tyres put on her although this could be entirely coincidental. She’s driven fine over the last couple of months even with the noise, however ever since it’s become winter the problem has gotten worse. When the engine is cold the revs fluctuate as if the car is about to stall (she’s an automatic), and this is a problem I’ve had before although this time there is no engine light on. When that happened last time one of the hoses were replaced and this was around 9 months ago. The ticking noise increases as you accelerate, and temporarily disappears after a long drive. I’ve attached a video with the noise with the hope that someone recognises it and has some good news for me. She’s due for a service in 3 months and I’m hoping this isn’t a massive issue. Thanks in advance! 161172F6-5829-4286-952F-AC03F152E312.MOV 1BAEF5EA-B73B-4DC5-8DD8-19F0655FD41A.MOV

My old 535is is the only BMW i wish i didn't have to sell. Whats worse is it was degred a few mths later ( the young guy probably crashed it) Sure to buy one again someday at a hefty premium but ive been stock piling nice parts to go on it.

Should have kept my nz manual msport 328. But the stigma of copying you was greater tham I can handle. I can't see myself selling the X5, nothing put there can replace it.

the manual e39 540s would probably have been the E39 versions of the 535is...there werent many of them to begin with either. I drove one and although a very nice car it wasnt as engaging as the E34 imho

Can you pinpoint the noise? Ear against a long screw driver would work. Sounds like the lifters but other things like drive pulleys\tensioners, DISA valves etc can get noisy. Do you know when the was oil was last changed and what grade? Sounds like you have a possible vacuum leak with the bad idle which would be the first thing to check when you take it in.

Haha - you know me too well! Thought this would be in @TermiPeteNZ driveway by now - just to complete the set ?

Yup agree a PPI from a reputable garage is highly recommended also! Or if it was me I would just pull the trigger ? Man this is so tempting...

Wheels alone worth $1500 and with michelin tyres $2000 maybe a bit more. Its too bad because people wont see the value added from the wheels and tyres.
  21. 1 point
Yep but i will say PPI would still be a good idea esp if you don't work on your own cars.

Ive been looking for a fun car for a while. Something RWD but with the comfort to do decent distance. I've never had a BMW before but a friend who is well into them convinced me to have a go in a 335i. So short story ive just bought a 07 one from a dealer after being blown away by a test drive. Should pick it up either tomorrow or Thursday (its getting a service, groom and the air con fixed) So excited

Typical NZ new non msport facelift spec (like mine) which has some good options. Good colour combo too. K's is lower than the average one but service history as more important. May of been used in traffic most of its life, lots of short trips etc and its still an 18 year old car regardless. Id be asking for any service history Around those k's are when the cooling system start to fail - mainly water pump, thermostat, expansion tanks. Transmission has hopefully been serviced otherwise its well overdue. Suspension should be acceptable at those k's but no guarantees, you'd probably feel to the difference in handling you replaced shocks etc. Other little things like belt pulleys and tensioner are usually showing wear and various small leaks from old hoses and o-rings are usual present to a degree. Vanos seals are probably worn which isnt a major but doing them typically improves <3k rpm torque esp with the shorter diff ratio Im sure the Wellington guys will know who to recommend.

I have an almost complete interior for a 1968 BMW 1602. This includes front seats, rear seats, dash, headlining, rear doors cards, one front door card. I am happy to seperate but would like to sell the seats as a complete set. The dash is in very good condition with no cracks, includes all the chrome pieces that sit below the dash in these early model cars. I have lots of other small interior/exterior parts, including badges if you re looking for anything specific. Located in Christchurch. PM me if you are interested. Asking $1200 for the lot. Negotiable. I will try and get some photos of the dash and better photos of seats.
