2013 M3 PURE FIVE YEAR OWNERSHIP Stumbled across this post and figured I could add my two cents worth. Took delivery of my new M3 Pure, one of twenty, in 2013 and sold it a short while ago to avoid Phil Goff's tax. In deference to Tom, who obviously knows these cars well and much better than I do, I've made a couple of further observations of my own after running the car for 5 years. First, the good stuff, the engine... It can well pull the skin of a milk pudding and make a decent noise doing it in pretty damn fine comfort. Some reviews bagged the stereo, can't imagine why, never used it when driving and it seemed perfectly good at standstill. Honestly, if you rate this car on the stereo, you've got the wrong end of the stick completely and should get a Toyota Camry. It's certainly a smart looking vehicle without being too ostentatious or blingy, so you won't feel overly self-conscious driving around in it, although it's pretty intimidating at full noise. Seats four comfortably with a pretty generous boot too, skis through the middle of the back seats, which can fold down completely as well, so it will take lots of gear. Now some of the Ok stuff. The DCT does a wicked gear change, you couldn't do a manual change quicker, however it does clonk quite a lot along with the rear end (never bothered me, the manual refers to it), particularly at low speeds (e.g. intersections and parking manoeuvrers). After discovering the little rocker switch below the shift selector wasn't the stereo speaker balance, I always put it on 3 bars around town for pleasant tractability. Sure, it used gas, however I managed much better than Tom with 10litres/100Km on a 4,700km (ave 75km/h) trip around the South Island. Overall, I still got around 11.5 including city driving over 5 years and, believe me, it got the occasional caning. Besides, the entire thrill of this car is booting it from standstill and out of corners, not the theoretical top speed. Incidentally, trick for new players, the speedo goes in 20k increments to 120k, then 30k to 150/180 where you can find yourself in a remarkably short space of time! Tom's gas consumption might come from permanently using "M" mode, which has those funky gear change lights etc., but I found it mostly just used more gas and turned the steering leaden. I only used it on special occasions and on deserted roads, so not much, three bars was usually fine. Drivers who don’t bother manually changing down to overtake (i.e. most of us) will discover the DCT takes slightly longer to change than you would like, often causing a slightly alarming torque lurch when it does. For best results, change down yourself, but then you have to decide whether to indicate or not, so do what all euro drivers do and flick the wipers on instead. Finally, the bad stuff, the engine... this really is the worst thing about this car. The conspiracy theorists (American of course) have it that these engines are preprogramed to self-destruct within hours of coming out of warranty. Well, I can vouch for the fact that that is pretty much when the engine in my car started making disturbing noises, which got progressively worse over the next eighteen months. No problem, got a FIVE year extended warranty, haven’t I..? Well, it is a problem actually, because unless the thing actually blows up... they ain't going to fix it. Oh, they tried and tried for months with it in their workshop to fix it, but to no avail. I think the final conclusion, based on the combined wisdom of all the experts, was that it must be my fault... so take your car and sod off..! So, I did and, like Tom, I got rid of it. I totally echo Tom's sentiments upon trading in his M3 V8..!

My 6-er has combox and connected drive etc, but was not ordered with Apps (option SA6NR). BimmerTech and the like charge upwards of $399 US to do this retrofit...but BMW is willing to do an official retrofit for $680 NZ. That includes the FSC code from BMW and coding. Seems like only a couple of $$$ difference, BUT doing it through BMW means that your car's VIN is updated on the master database and you don't run the risk of your retrofit apps being wiped if your car's software is update in the future. Just some food for though. Happy Friday

High kz , purchased 2weeks ago now, been garaged and well maintained over her years, paint amazing, all electrics work, impressive under foot. Just hoping the trans fluid/filter change i do soon will adhere the issues i have currently . Have done enough read up to know were to start and what to eliminate. I Respect this car alot for the luxury which is still epic for back then. Alot of car and coolness for $1100 ???

last time I did it, worked out at about $6.50/litre... contrast that with retail 4l packs.

A fluid and filter change will not change anything with those faults. A second hand trans or rebuild will be your only options

Sounds like a clutch issue to me. Nothing to loose by changing the fluid given its cheap but so are 2nd hand gearboxes

Update on the valve stem seals on the 550. Job now done and the car is running sweet! After shopping around and getting estimates for the work, I selected SD European in Horotiu (just north of Hamilton) do the work. The bill matched their estimate so no surprises and included replacing spark plugs plus all the other gaskets and seals etc. Compared with BM Workshop in Botany I just saved myself $2,000! Couldn't be happier with SD European and will definitely use them for all future work. Great to deal with, friendly and helpful and competitively priced. What more could you ask for? Stoked!

A common myth, but here are the facts; Between 2008 and Budget 2017, the health budget increased by $4.85 billion a year from $11.92 billion to $16.77 billion – a 40.7% increase. Also front line staff over the same time frame was increased by a large margin; Population growth 8% 38% more doctors 25% more nurses 45% more senior doctors 45% more senior nurses https://www.health.govt.nz/publication/health-workforce-new-zealand-annual-report-minister-health-1-july-2015-30-june-2016

Great car. Check the power steering fluid. It's the same fluid as used for the ARS (Active Roll Stabilsation), and *MUST* be Pentosin CHF-11S and *not* automatic trans fluid as in so many other cars. Low fluid can cause the issue you're seeing. If fluid is low, then you need to find where it is going. First place to look is the ARS actuators underneath the car.: rear one is behind the rear wheels, front one is in front of the front wheels. You could have an ARS sensor out of calibration - BMW dealers may be able to reset this.

Hope it goes to another caring owner. It was a great car, and a real shame i couldnt buy it back. Already have three cars ? GL Mark. Despite the KM its a solid, reliable example. Made really good power on a dyno run when I had it. Has a MASSIVE folder of previous receipts.

Tempting dude But I already have a V10! ? The big 8 sure is a classy vehicle, and not as thirsty as the M5. Having seen a F01 750i in the flesh the other day - beautiful vehicle.

Had a very narrow escape from this guy on Saturday. Just managed to avoid being hit head on about 3 seconds before he went through a raised roundabout and performed some kind of spinning somersault. Trying to do a runner from the po-po, I estimated his speed at above 130.

Put car on tardme. Price it above everything similar, as its better. One text message 2 days after listing, comes around an hour later, looks it over, pays you asking price in cash with no haggling or screwing around and takes car. Why cant all tardmes be like this!

They tried to rip me off about 20 years ago. Wrote off their entire chain after that. Actually between them and a car yard which had a Nissan Skyline I wanted to buy. The experience was so bad I learnt how to import my own cars and parts back in 98. The car yard tried to buy one of my imports. Was a very satisfying day.
