Anyone else here into BBQ (and other variants of outdoor cooking) as a hobby? Other than cars, it's one of my passions, along with watches and a bit of gaming.

Both recently sold sorry bud. Down to the Rolex GMT, the RL, the IWC Portuguiser and the Monta at the mo - rest all recently sold to make way for something big Mate, that's the cool thing about watch collecting, it's like this group - doesn't matter whether you've got a brand new solid gold Rolex or a $50 Seiko 5, what matters is that you're having fun It's like with anything, the more you get into a hobby the more expensive it gets, and watches are the worst. You start thinking spending $2000 on a watch is an 'impulse buy' and $5000 is 'affordable' - don't go down the rabbit hole!

I thought my broil king and casio G shock from 10 years ago was pretty cool. Now I feel inadequate.

Oklahoma Joe! Nice one Q's are great - I prefer cooking on charcoal for the heat and flavour but nothing beats the Q for a few steaks or sausies in a hurry! Bit of low and slow, bit of super hot sear, and some in the middle. And yeh wind can be a challenge with some charcoal cookers, but for smoking an insulated chamber smoker will fix a lot of that. My Chubby (above) will go fine even in a howling gale. I buy and sell as a hobby so far too many to list, but here's some recent highlights.

you guys doing some slow cool smoking, then? I'm just on gas, where I live charcoal needs more committment with the wind. I use smoker boxes with cabernet or shiraz-soaked wood chips, and ceramic flame-tamers to help with the smoking beneath the hood. Mine's an old BBQ factory full-stainless 4 burner that I restored, souped-up with enamelled grilles and the flame-tamers. It works well, and saved me spending a couple of grand that I didn't have to spare.

got a freshly recovered MTech1 steering wheel off ebay - was located in Ireland, cost around $200 delivered, bargain as its mint, found some 15" basketweaves under someones house, had been there years another bargain, had seals and all belts replaced in 2016 so no more leaks anywhere .. had it converted to manual as posted previously with new bushes, clutch etc .. found a couple of Sport Seats in a wreckers year thanks to WYZEUP giving me the heads up that there were some available, they were rough but mechanically sound. Sourced the factory material to match the originals / rears / doors etc - from LeMans Auto Fabrics in Welly - and got them reupholstered last year, got a back seat from a sedan and got the rear headrest mechanism out of them and added rear headrests again in matching material, currently in the shop getting new suspension at the front and dropping it around an inch and a half, should be done later today, added an IS Lip and sprayed up in SterlingSilber to match up. Fitted a new Speedo to the existing cluster and changed the gears in it - sat on 130000km for 6 years - put a speedo in with 163000 kms on it - figured if not dead accurate its closer to the real milage, painted all needles red (I know .. but looks great), shadowlined all windows (used a car wrapping guy to do that), Serviced regularly, brake master cylinder replaced and system overhauled: to do Air Con needs sorting, Passenger side rear panel needs respraying due to imperfection and my terrible attempt to sort it which has made it more noticeable and maybe remote central locking - then we're about done, Longer term a full glass out respray, all factory stuff and mostly cosmetic but the spec is now a bit higher than what it was .. I've got other pics at home so will post later

ok Olaf, here we go .. heres the interior when I got it .. standard wheel, seats etc - usual E30 rips but generally I bought this car due to its potential as I wanted a straight unmolested example, there were a few oil drips but nothing terminal, the body was straight bar a small bump on the passenger side and the engine purred so I figured that was a plus straight away

It’s surprising how much of a gut ol’ Clarkson has got in the latest season. Was one of the first things my wife and I noticed and I’m hardly a svelte machine myself. Life on Amazon money must be good.

I decided on the BE ones because they use a similar compound to the original BMW recipe so any wear will show up with oil analysis (which i will do at every oil change) they also have a non stick coating which was one of the things BMW did to reduce the wear on the bearings and i believe they also have a slightly larger clearance which allows for more oil between the crank and bearing, which should also reduce wear. I would have stuck with BMW but the new part number is a harder compound so doesn't wear the same and won't show up in oil analysis until it is too late. There are other options out there, but i had to make a decision and that's the way i went. I ordered from Turners because they offer a kit that allows you to order all the parts you need to do the job, most of which were genuine BMW, i didn't get the oil from them because it blows the shipping cost out and they offer the new Shell BMW oil. I am sticking with Castrol to keep my analysis reports consistent.
