All Thought Id post some before and after pics of my new H&R Lowering springs fitted I have spent much time trying to get to the bottom of why my E36 was leaning, changed shocks, had some bushes done all made no difference and never were going to make any difference to the ride hieght issues 1.Tried for OEM springs - only rears avalible at $558 2. Locally purchased springs all where going lower the car further than I wanted , plus a number of firms didnt even bother to call me back when trying to find something local 3. Looked overseas - all pretty much the same as what was avalible here , except for Turner motorsports H&R OE Sport Springs for 1995 E36 M3 . https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-4343-hr-oe-sport-spring-set-e36-m3-1995-only-1996-99-with-additional-parts/ $247 us , $164 us postage and $194 NZ for UPS here in NZ to sort out the customs side Drop .7in in front and .3in in rear or 18mm front and 7.5mm in rear. , ended close at 13mm front and 5mm rear 4. Before LHS - worst side for my OCD, the front left was really pissing me off. 5. Pretty happy with ride height now and the imbalance is not so noticable to me anymore it is still there and I do wonder why?, meh, I assume things still need to settle and it may even out. 6. But not all went well at Manawatu BMW(not their fault) and the simple job turned into alittle nightmare. Approx 12mths ago I paid a suspension specialist in Palmy to fit new front Bilstien struts, they did . But they had according to Manawatu BMW crossed threaded the top nut and had most likely put it on with a rattle gun consequently the main shaft was striped in the 1.3 hrs it took to get it off. This the second issue I have had since the suspension specialisted worked on my car on that occasion. Taken to machinist who said , shock/strut needed to be pulled apart and the main shaft need to be rebuilt so a new thread could be done. Was going to cost over the price of a new bilstien replacement strut. So had to purchase a new strut, now need to approach said suspension specialist and try get some funds back - dont fancy my chances.

It's very incongruous this "regularly serviced" and "engine light is on unknown to me why". If your car is regularly serviced, you have a relationship with a workshop, or at least the practice of taking it to a workshop. It's had 8 owners. It's an early one so will be M54 powered. Likely the standard M54 stuff like oil leaks and PCV systemvacuum leaks... and was it a secondhand gearbox, recond, or really new? And nope, that price is not negotiable. Yet they ticked "or near offer" box. ? Plus, the seller has no feedback... thre sort of thing someone might do if they didn't want a feedback stain on their solid account? It could be a cheap X3, but could also turn out to be thrashed, tired, with $5k worth of remedial maintenance. For $7-8k you can get a tidy low-kms example, I think you're better off in that direction.

    That looks dodgy as anything...

Nope, but they are really, really nice to drive. Like a giant electric skateboard or electrified go-cart. RWD, de-tuned 0-100kph as it was "too fast for segment", +180bhp with a ton of torque in a 1200kg package. I test drove one and would have no problem buying for City+Suburbs driving, but I know people that use them as their one and only cross country car (not this country mind you).

Can you please move the frog out of the way so can see more of the boxy Bavarian in the background please?? That is definately a later model to what my mate had - so should have a few more safety features on it!

Have seen these listed in NZ for a few months now. Priced some up for my 335i and they were around $50- 70 per tire more expensive than the old standby Re003. https://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/review-bridgestone-potenza-s007a-tyres-120317?trackLink=homePageAdvice5

People think that taking a car for a 1 yearly wof and getting new wiper blades and a headlight bulb = regularly serviced. end of story.

This was bought new by a mate of mine in 1996 in London. He brought it to NZ with him when it was 18 months old and I bought it from him in 2010. Has 126.000 miles (202kms) on it and runs perfectly. Clutch and shocks were replaced at 160,000kms. I used this as my daily until 2013, then got another car, but couldn't bring myself to sell it.... Last year (March) I got a new warrant and fixed a few bugs, flushed oil and coolant etc for a $900 bill and since then have driven it regularly, hasn't missed a beat. I also replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter at the same time. The air con needs regassing (I was going to get the Repco refill kit) and the stereo (factory Sony with CD changer) has decided it will only play through the left speakers (assume the plug is out in the back of it). I also have a new cabin air filter for it, but don't have the time to get all of the little things attended to. It had some paint touch ups done by a professional painter a few years back, all of the areas he touched are now stuffed. Boot, bonnet and top of drivers door. Hood lining is sagging, not too badly, but will need doing at some point. Has 16" motor sport alloys on it with Super cat tyres on it with plenty of tread. This is the one that was mentioned in a thread last year with a possibly higher horse power ECU, but who knows? There's probably stuff I've missed, but there you go. I want $4,500 for it. For this, it will come with: A perfect condition boot with Msport spoiler A good condition drivers door. An M sport front bumper (purple, but good nick) A replacement hood lining in good condition

It's a curse. A fun curse. But still a curse. I could have bought an M2 Comp with cash with what I've wasted on this hobby in the last 7 years...

Apologies, I was not trying to infer you were I'll quote direct from the press release docs for the Senna (http://media.mclarenautomotive.com/press-kits/mclaren-senna) "Complementing ESC and VDC is Brake Steer, a technology McLaren developed for Formula 1™ that was ultimately banned from the sport due to the performance advantage it offered over rivals. This race-bred technology imperceptibly brakes the inside rear wheel to enhance turn-in and reduce understeer, encouraging the driver to apply the throttle earlier. This significantly enhances the agility of the McLaren Senna and removes the requirement for a traditional limited-slip differential, saving weight and reducing component complexity." A whole lot of marketing waffle, but the last line (and other relevant info online) confirms that, as with the P-1, the Senna uses a brake-controlled E-Diff system where mechanically the diff is fully Open. I guess in their case, the traction benefit of a mechanical LSD was outweighed by the performance loss the extra weight added. I guess when you've got over 1000hp per tonne, every kilo matters!

Ahhh, the good old Clio. My mate had one (earlier model) as a company car back in '96, all the sales reps in his company had them. His was the fastest in the fleet; as a former mechanic, he knew how to exercise a motor to loosen up and perform at it's best. I remember 115mph (indicated) on the M3 blazing our way back to London, none of the other guys in the office could top 105 and were always scratching their heads how his was quicker across London too. Renaults are generally lightweight, and handle surprisingly well. Here's something left-field...

I had a thrash in a Type R back in 1997, it was pretty shiny and new. I'd just come out of 3 years in a GTI 16v Golf. The "VTEC-YEO" was somewhat impressive, certainly making more power than the GTi, and it had me working the calculator for about ten minutes until I remembered borrowing for cars is folly. Looking back I wonder what I was thinking. I'm sure these days a DC2 type R would be like driving with a "please, please pull me over, officer" bumper sticker! (sung to the tune of "please, please please let me get what I want" by The Smiths).

Oklahoma Joe! Nice one Q's are great - I prefer cooking on charcoal for the heat and flavour but nothing beats the Q for a few steaks or sausies in a hurry! Bit of low and slow, bit of super hot sear, and some in the middle. And yeh wind can be a challenge with some charcoal cookers, but for smoking an insulated chamber smoker will fix a lot of that. My Chubby (above) will go fine even in a howling gale. I buy and sell as a hobby so far too many to list, but here's some recent highlights.

you guys doing some slow cool smoking, then? I'm just on gas, where I live charcoal needs more committment with the wind. I use smoker boxes with cabernet or shiraz-soaked wood chips, and ceramic flame-tamers to help with the smoking beneath the hood. Mine's an old BBQ factory full-stainless 4 burner that I restored, souped-up with enamelled grilles and the flame-tamers. It works well, and saved me spending a couple of grand that I didn't have to spare.

Save the 4k for two front end resprays at reputable shops or wrap the car.

ill say it again but the F20 is a bloody good platform in my opinion. it drives and feels like the old e46 in terms of size because the new 3 series is just too big. Also, comfort access is awesome and fuel economy on the 116 is amazing at 7.5L/100km for me at the moment.

Welcome to the forum. Long story short, I would avoid the 116i E87 model completely. 2009 - $10k??? expensive as hell. why? because stupid low kms that are just unrealistic. car probably sat around doing nothing. not good. 2007 - bit better at 7.5k but still, unrealistic kms for a 10+ year old car. BUT the big problem with the E87 model is the 1.6L 4 cylinder engine is just known to be unrealiable. will cost huge money to fix eventually so I would avoid. I personally have a 2012 116i F20, bought it for $12k with 100,000kms on it but hasnt given me any issues at all and we have done 10k kms on it so far. Oil service costs about $150, I do it every 8000kms. These models are not without it's problem also but I think they are generally much better and you get a much nicer/newer car with a lot of good features. Obviously it costs more but I think its worth it. Look for a F20 116i for around 14-16k (lower mileage examples say around 50-70,000 kms) and look for one that has the options you want.

I have used the SRS bushes and passed my cert, still need either m3 evo LCA & e36 hubs or m3 LCA & hub to center the wheels correctly
