Date: 19 Mar 2019 Distance: 258970km Beneath Grey Thunder in dry dock I: stripped nekkid, awaiting new clobber. Empty rack, no ARB or LCAs. Photo Credit: Jon Mechaniker. 1. Steering. Replaced tie rods (inner and outer - OEM), lock washers, boots. 2. Suspension. Replaced Lower Control Arms (OEM) and LCA Bushes (e36 solid). Installed freshly painted 19mm front ARB, with gen BMW bushes. I'll find a 20mm bar eventually. New end links. 3. Shifter. Replaced all the bushes, and a Z3 1.9 short-shifter. New gearbox mounts. And changed the gearbox oil to the right grade. I'd run it on diff oil by mistake... 4. Aligned. It was aligned given so much work on the steering/suspension. Report: It’s been a gorgeous day in Wellington, blue skies, no cloud, warm and sunny. I decided to drive back from Auto 38 in Newtown over Alexandra Road/Palliser Road/Hawker st/Majoribanks St to town. Car is transformed. First impression: the short-shift courtesy of the z3 1.9 shift lever - along with all the other bushings and stuff - is groovy. Very short crisp gate. - The steering is smooth, even, and it tracks straight. No more pitching into understeer. Handling is improved - even with 19mm front bar - though now with new (genuine) bushes and HD endlinks. It's more progressive and the rear end mostly follows the front! The gearbox bushings have improved things, with less drivetrain lurch (in concert with the fresh diff mount from a couple of months back). I'm looking forward to engine mounts. It's much easier to drive, now. More predictable. It's smooooooooooooth. And quieter. Yes, despite my plans and intentions, this job was wallet-mechanic'd. Jon at Auto 38 has done a brilliant job. Efficient, communicative, reliable. I'm just not getting the opportunity to spanner myself. I have complete confidence in Jon and Keren. If you're looking for a great independent workshop in Wellington, give them a call or visit. They'll see you right. Beneath Grey Thunder in dry dock II: New LCAs, Bushes, Tie Rods & Boots, ARB, Bushes, End Links installed. Photo Credit: Jon Mechaniker. Next steps: Prepping and painting the 14" basketweaves. EDIT: and sort out the horns, and install the sport steering wheel! EDIT II: Future job is sump gasket and oil filter to block gasket. Deferred this time.

And in today’s news, this: ... I’ve never had a car that someone liked enough to try to buy! Think I’ll dust off my sheepskin coat, put on my best Arthur Daley, and see if he’d like to buy a classic 855-T5 instead ?

As the title states, I'm on the hunt for an m60 wiring loom. Have a winter project in mind and need a 2nd loom. Someone help me.

Few things as satisfying when you feel the improvement new suspension components make!

Nice, where did you get the z3 shifter from?

oh yeah for sure. the F20 is waaaaaaaaaaay nicer. I was just comparing between the lexus and the e9x m3. i would really hate to go back to non comfort access after experiencing it in the F20.

What's the general state of your electrical system? I know with mine before I replaced the battery all sorts of weird things were happening (RPM gauge moved when you turned the indicator on, most amusing). Check you're getting at 12V at the fuel pump? https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1051022-3000-rpm-R3v-limiter I might be able to sort something on the ECU front.

LCI F20 interior is miles better than e90 interior. E90 interior just feels cheap and dated already

Anyone got these kicking around? pretty much any condition considered, as my rotor only has one tab on it.... Let me know! Cheers, Matt

@M3AN Yea these are curbed, but are easily fixed on the lathe. Not too expensive apparently either. That was my original plan, but i want to get my E30 finished before our wee fella turns up in May. Tyre shop is a good idea. I need to really probe this guy to see how keen he is before i commit too much of my time, running around Auckland.

Terrific car, very firm suspension and ride but that is the appeal, I think they are really nice as an overall package, great 8 speed direct drive automatic / tiptronic gearbox, very quick shifts and that motor sounds super sweet, can sound better with the single middle section of the exhaust removed. Only thing I dont really like is the interior, it's fine, but just seems a bit generic, exterior nice enough, pleasant car but I don't think the design is as good as the E92 M3 etc.

Nope. I agree with @Blackie - and since he (and others) have volunteered there are no excuses.

For those of you who knew Atta. His family are truly doing it tough right now as one could imagine with Atta the the primary income for his family. Every little bit helps. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/help-atta-elayyans-family

I'd ask the question publically before I contacted the seller directly. If they have nothing to hide they won't mind providing all the information they can. How they answer the question, evasive or forthcoming, will influence how I perceive them as a seller. It's also a good practice to have a written record of questions and answers. I think your assumption that because somebody asks a question on an auction they're not a genuine buyer is wide of the mark. Too many sellers (of all sorts of stuff) think they're doing buyers a favour by listing something and that's arse about face, it's the sellers obligation to do the actual selling. Like answering a WTB post with "yes, have some" and not including a price.

Kyu, I'm sure your 8k oil change remains well less than the recommendation under condition-based servicing, and approximates a 5000mi change. You're well ahead of the pack. If it's black, it's suspending the sh*t, better than leaving it in the engine! ? Yes I'm sure others will question this 'logic'. ? I still believe that 5-6k km oil & filter is "cheap" insurance (radical Sxx motor oil requirements aside), if you're weilding the spanners yourself. OEM filters* & quality synthetic oil** purchased in 20 litre quantities sees me change oil/oil filter/air filter for well under $100 (8 litres for e60). * Hengst or Mann ** Penrite HPR5 (5W40) full synthetic BMW LL01

Hi everyone, Haven't posted on here in a long while - but just wanted to let you all know of a fellow BS member who sadly passed away in the mosque tragedy on Friday. Atta Elayyan, known on here as 'crazyarab' has been named as one of the people killed at the Al Noor mosque. He was a regular contributor to the forums since 2007 - many of our long standing Christchurch members knew him and his cars well. The last BMW he owned was this E30 V8. He also previously owned an E36 M3 and a silver Tech II M325i, all which sported the number plate 'CRZARB' Atta was a talented software developer, a member of the All Whites Futsal team, and has a young family. I'm sure you will all join me in sending condolences to his family and friends. Incredibly sad news. - Mark.

First post in a while and under pretty shitty circumstances. Think the multiple tributes to Atta from the various communities he was involved in really paint a clear picture of the type of guy he was. Rest in Paradise CRZARB

Yeah he was very passionate about cleaning his cars. One of the last meets was a cold wet day but he spent 6 hours the day before cleaning his car immaculately. I posted this last night but heard mixed stories about his status so I'll repost here; We sadly lost touch after his focus switch from cars to family and futsal. One of last times I caught up with him was when i purchased the Hartge wheels off him, he sold them to me for what is considered a steal compared to what they are worth as he knew they were going to a good home and he would get to see them used. He was genuinely a nice guy and always happy to help. He will be missed
