Heres some interior pikkies - I'll do some exterior ones once the weather clears. The car has the "big toolkit" and its only missing the pick for adjusting the tappets. The steering wheel is a factory option one that came from a highly spec'ed 3.0Si that we owned - original wheel is included in the spares Only trim inside the cabin that was retrimmed was the seats - carpets are original. I replaced the original english spec Panasonic cassette player with an early Alpine unit - the original is in the spares, along with a period OEM spec Blaupunkt . The car did very little miles in the UK - the original owner brought this solely as an investment whilst on his OE - so the underside has had no exposure to the typical salted roads The rust in the car was around the chrome trims and the usual E3 rust traps - leading edge of the bonnet was probably the worst. The car's WoF expires this month - but will be WoFed when sold, and the car is located in Wellington

Some readers will know I have a closer relationship with E30 sales and prices than most people do. And no - I'm not a dealer/flipper/valuer! E30s are tricky to price. There are many variables to consider. Many people look at 4 vs 6 cylinders, coupe vs 4-door, cloth vs leather interior, manual vs automatic (and whether it is a factory manual) and use that to come up with their personal) valuation. The truth is that little of that is especially relevant in the current market - condition is ***everything***. The best-specced late-model 325 manual is virtually worthless if it's running in a rusty shell. 4 cylinder cars are often overlooked in favour of 6-pots, when the reality is that they are typically better balanced and nicer to drive. Less power (in most cases) but also far easier to work on because of more space in the engine bay. That makes them, imo, a good buy in the current market. There are a few E30s worth more than $6k. And a few worth more than $10k. But it is a few. Most - the majority - simply are not. Most have significant shortcomings in one area or another which will require love, attention, and significant time and $$$ to correct or even just bring up to scratch. There is a world of difference between a 'good' WoF'd and rego'd E30, and an excellent one. (I'm leaving dead rego cars out of it for now.) Bear in mind also that what a car - any car - is actually worth, and what it sells for, can be very different things.

realoem.com is your friend I wouldnt bother putting in old shocks (40k and 12 years old?) . Replacements, at OEM or better spec, arent expensive (fcpeuro etc)

No, you should sell it to me, now, as the market is at peak E30. But seriously, that is very much a keeper even if it needs work. To Graham’s point above, I find it very hard to see an E30 being north of $10k value when it has ripped seats, a cracked dash, and missing or broken trims. Which I see quite a lot. Hence my question on this post.

Once the weather improves down here - I'll get it out of the garage and get some more pikkies. Its WOFed and Rego'd - so yep its a current runner.

1972 BMW 3.0S - manual. I'd thought I'd see if there is any interest in the car here before firing onto other car sales sites. The car hasnt been restored, but had any rust cut out and a bare metal respray back in 2006 by the Surgery in Tawa. The seats were reupholstered in materials closely matching the original textures and colours at the same time. Car is a good runner - I suspect that the engine had some work prior to us purchasing the car - in January we took it on a camping road trip - Wellington to Coromandel via the East Coast - only issue was perished rubber exhaust hangers that needed to be replaced on route. Huge amount of spares available with the car including panel cuts from a rust free 2500 we wrecked. Car is currently on 15 inch E34 rims - but there are a number of 14 inch wheel options within the spares including... virtually unused set of steel wheels, hubcaps and trims, two sets of the correct option alloy wheels and hubcaps, and a genuine set of 1970s Minilite alloys. Included in the sale is set of BMW Workshop manuals for the E3, Part 2 of the parts manual for the E3, original brochures from the Earl's Court Motor Show that the original owner got prior to purchasing the car, and a pair of Midlock carb balancers for setting up the carbies. This isnt a car I had intended to sell, but but health has taken a major turn for the worse - and I need to empty my garage I was hoping to get around $12K for the car, but am open to offers

It's not as night and day as some people suggest the Michelin is to other premium tyres. I've used them before, absolutely top tier but others do compare. Just saying.

That is very cool. ** starts browsing the web for E21s for sale... aargh!!

Pretty standard affair when it comes to BMW and other manufacturers. Don't know specifically about E9X but you can generally use any springs without issue as long as they are from the chassis and have same cylinder count (pretty much what aftermarket manufactures do)

I don’t know if auto lowers desirability. It was a slightly different target market. I do miss my old M325i tech 1. That thing has to be my all time favorite BMW. Shame about the rust.

So I should keep hold of my Nz new Mtech 1 manual 325i? i priced up replicating an M325i a couple of years ago after driving my old one (that my dad has) and couldn’t see any change from $25k to do it right.

I paid 10k for mine facelift 325 auto about 3 odd years ago. Now has tech 2 kit, alpina boot spoiler and manual and IF I'd sell it, would want north of 20. I do need sort out the seats however

What should one expect to be paid for a cabrio? Asking for a friend of course...
  16. 1 point
I think so, Jon. Demand, age, increasing scarcity, and cost to make a good one. I’d not accept less than $6k for mine, though no plans to sell. There’ll be folks reading this going ‘flamin’ dreamin’, $6k for a slick-Top 316i manual? It’s not worth less than that to me to part with it. just keep watching the prices rise. Expect one day to be approached by a cashed-up gen-Yer with a phat offer on your cabby.

Heya Darryl, good to see you here! One of my images of your lovely E3 from the Brit and Euro show was in the Autumn issue of DIXI (BMW Car Club NZ quarterly magazine). Folks, this car is a beaut. If you’re thinking of an E3, you should certainly move quickly.

For a day to day commuter Pete, you’ll love it. Saw it in the workshop. Very cool colour and beaut condition. You’ll probably think the fuel gauge is stuck compared to the other two.

The E46 is back! Here's the list from the PPI Replaced leaking rocker cover gasket and seals Replace water pump Replace A/C and fan belts Coolant Replace driver's mirror glass (had some blotches) Replace both front seat belts (not retracting well) and left rear belt (frayed) Install new front tyres (came with the car ) Fit 2nd hand ABS pump and bleed brake system - code ABS unit The auto electrician who coded the ABS unit reckoned it's the nicest E46 he's seen/driven. Only thing not done is the boot lights - Auto38 is tracking the right ones down... Great to have it back Do notice that the fuel consumption needle seems to be very laggy compared to the one in the E53.

Nice to see such an honest description, GLWS.

Pretty easy job. The m3 mounts are slightly firmer than the stock ones - about 15% I think. Don't be surprised if your old mounts come out in pieces or look severely damaged as these often fail on our cars. Make sure you torque the trans mounts to the correct torque or if you overtighten you will get vibration.

Perfection^ ? That makes sense. My old one had black stitching, this new one came out of the boot of that grey M5 with the insane air intakes that was for sale recently, but it was facelift so who knows where this wheel actually came from. Best $100 i’ve spent.

2185XX km Few cosmetic things tidied up today. Bonnet resprayed It was always a little dull but it really has faded to the point it was starting to get a big rust patch in it. The Body Stable in Miramar did the work. Before: After: Seemed like a good time to put some gloss black grills in and new badge. New mirror glass: The last one I got to replace the leaking one was for the smaller mirrors, now we are back to big mirrors on both side Steering wheel: I wanted the facelift one but with the airbag recall and not what it was murky waters. I picked this up for a bargain on trademe and fitted my airbag which isn't a takata defective one. Big difference is this has no leather missing from the wheel itself and also has some nice tri colour trim. I gave it a going over with the toothbrush before installing. before: after:

Bought this following the world's worst PPI and had it trucked down from Auckland without eyeballing it myself. Presented far worse than adverstised/photographed, and the story got worse from there. Passenger sill is rusty - not like Swiss cheese rusty, but certainly 'fix now' rusty. What the vender promised was a flogged diff bushing has turned out to be a crack in the chassis behind and to the left of the bush. Jon at Auto38 gave a rough estimate of 1800 to sort both. The car photographs OK, but paint is let down by clearcoat oxidising in small patches on the bonnet, bird strike etching in a couple of places and a couple of dings. There is a recent professional rust repair in the scuttle below the bonnet line. There is a little rust and a dent in the rear valance, and other nicks and scratches that need looking at. The interior is untidy, the headliner is mouldy and will need replacing. The SE upholstery is all gone (though the blue glovebox/console/lower dash remains) and has leather rear seats and what look to be Integra recaros in the front. It has remote locking via a mongoose alarm. Brakes and shocks will need attention, the vendor understood the setup to be lowering springs and standard shocks. The rack is leaking and has play. Basically I want to make it clear this is being sold as a project car - it needs enthusiam and attention, and I have neither right now. Its a shame - it still is a handsome car, I love the colour (reminded me of @Allanw 's beautiful family SE), and the spec is nice, but it's a project rather than a tidy-up which is what I thought I was getting (and all I have time for!). On the plus side: VTNZ warrant, OBC, SE skirts/spoiler, getrag 260 (installed by hellbm, uncerted), m20b25. Engine (885) has done high kms but has been rebuilt at least once. Viewing encouraged. Thanks Edit: as is where is.
