Picked up a project for cheap that i’ll be building in to a hopefully reliable and presentable daily driver. 2001 Jap Import 530i Touring with 279,000kms What was really appealing is that it’s been fitted with a gen M5 front bumper but the factory xenons have been replaced with halogen headlights. That’s going to be sorted soon. It’s in pretty average condition but the paint and body panels are good which makes this an ideal project for me. The engine is a beaut too. The list of to do’s go something like... -Front Suspension o’haul including msport shocks and 25mm lowering springs -18 Staggered wheels -a slight drop in the rear (factory self leveling suspension) -Fit a business rds radio to get nz stations and fit a bluetooth adapter that integrates with the factory setup -Replace the povo interior with Leather seats and door cards, fit the technical graphite/cubic finisher strips -Fit the correct Msport parts behind and under the front bumper -Cooling system overhaul, fuel filter, mictofilters. Give the paint a polish and wax and a heap of misc bits n pieces to bring it back to its glory.

Hey team, I’m new to bimmersport, I’ve got a 1999 320i e46 It’s not too much but a daily, however, I look to start learning how to build an e46 through it. I can’t wait to do more learning, get active on my car and then later upgrade : ) Cheers

The hunt for a garage was a long one, but we found what we (i) were after in the end! We bought a place with ample driveway space for oil spills and a two car garage. Here new house stuff took over and the car was AGAIN put on the back burner. So it sat while I ordered parts online and procrastinated as much as i could with laundry and garden renos. I finally got my act together when more and more parts were arriving and decided I needed to make a move. I ordered some XYZ adjustable height/dampening coil overs as I wanted to finally get rid of the shame of having cut springs. While the suspension was out, I seized the opportunity to clean out the wheel wells and hunt for some rust. Luckily I was clear in the rust department, 30 years of road crap was a different story. Pictures of the XYZ suspension for anyone that interested... SpeedFactor in Tauranga can get the welding and crack testing done for a reasonable price. Bloody good to deal with too. While It was up on axle stands I also gave the brakes a bit of a freshen up. Being a 316i, it had originally had drums on the rear with smaller 45m struts up front and the smaller disks. I swapped over the rear trailing arms from a 325i coupe to take advantage of the disc brake rear. Squeezed in some new bushings while I was there. Fitting the new trailing arms wasn't the nicest job as the access to the forward fulcrum bolts have limited access. When It was all said and done, it was worth it. The freshly painted callipers looked mint and the braided brake lines with new oil would improve the stoggy brake feel. I was on the hunt for a LSD/diff combo as the increase in power from the trusty M52 was constantly spinning the inside wheel as well as the current ratio making 1st gear pointless. Unfortunately everyone else with an E30 must feel the same as they're very hard to come by (I blame the race series!!). Found one on TradeMe after a long search and got round to fitting that. I went from 3.46 to 4.27 and it drives alot nicer. Almost caught up to present day! That'll make updates much easier.

Just makes me think “if they don’t care about something as obvious as the seats, what about all the unseen stuff..”? Also I have a thing about tyres, if they fit cheap shitty tyres, then what else do they scrimp on? (Not saying this car has this, just saying).

Seems everyone is trying their luck these days no matter what condition https://www.turners.co.nz/Damaged-Vehicles/Damaged-Cars-for-Sale/bmw/320-i/19059773

So we picked up the parts compact. I'm only interested in the trailing arms, so I don't care what happens to the rest. Someone is interested in the car as the body is straight, it's still registered, and they have a damaged car with a good engine. Have worked out a deal to give the car to him in exchange for the trailing arms from his other car. Meanwhile, I made some progress by pulling out the rear sub-frame from the touring. Diff and axles removed. Trailing arms off. Embracing fire to remove the worst of the sub-frame bushings. Should be able to remove the remaining metal ring of the bushings with a hacksaw. Once that's done, I'll clean it up, give it a new coat of paint, and install some poly bushes. That's it for this update.

Never assume anything, will end up costing you more time, money and hassle. Get a smoke tester and check the intake system for leaks

Bought this off Kris to carry on what he started, budget Rally Car build. The 4.44 LSD is awesome. Will be getting cage and seats done in the next couple of months. Will be doing club sport events, 1st up grass autocross in a few weeks. Cheers Paul

Thats those 6x individual round seals aye? i'm too used to a single gasket
  14. 1 point
Good pick up Olaf, you're right. You can see the LSD tag and ratio there with the 's'. Believe it or not that's the original underseal. Just gave it some elbow grease and used some of the Chemical Guys multipurpose spray cleaner. Used a stiff brush, tooth brushes and rags. Took awhile but it's good piece of mind knowing that underneath the guard liners hasn't rusted out.

I'm pretty hard on E30's these days. I can't see why poverty spec cars are scaling up in price at the same rate as the more special models. I'm glad you jumped on to ask the questions though. I have a feeling the people who are not are the ones buying these for silly prices. This car to me is a $3.5K car as long as it doesn't have any rust. There is absolutely nothing special on that car at all. Not one desirable part. It is poverty spec (arguable that Auto was not a poverty option when new but it is now).

No trouble for helping out I think Grey Thunder is a bit of a stretch!! Drives really nice with all the suspension mods, sort the windnoise from the drivers door & shes a beaut!! I need to take you for a spin in the 30 year old Virgin

Such an epic build. That supercharger fits snug and looks so good on the engine - will it clear the bonnet? Just need to grind off the 'amg' now.

Another update team working hard to try and get this thing on the road. Last two weeks worth. Got all the bits back from driveshaft shop and engineers. shaft bolts up now. shifter all centered or close to it. oil feed AN fitting welded on. return plugged up. This where i drilled 30mm inwards to match factory mounting holes for x member. diff sits quite low now due to being a bigger diff, so i brought these. Gone from 18" to 19" hope it will raise the car alittle to stop smashing of the diff. Heres one for you nathan, not full bolted up tight but gives you an idea of the block to fire wall distance, roughly around 100mm from firewall to back of short block. also changed the rear main seal while i was at it. So heres the fun part, had a spare block and heads which i just roughly threw together to mock this baby up. the Bmw intake studs is where it was sitting on. So took them out and its almost like its meant to be also had to cut these bits off to get it sitting better, not needed for my build. sits alot lower and forward. Pulley almost bang on too. Just need to find where is is going to sit and make an adapter plate. Two back intake holes almost match the front two start miss in line with each other. These are the driver side headers that unfortunately wont work with my heads, so am sending the car off to get some custom ones made. but see how restrictive number 4 and 3 are. Ugly!!!!! Once back from getting manifolds made ill be putting the motor back together in N/A form and running with that till i get the supercharger set up made and done on the spare block.

Indeed I am still! But weather + crazy work hours has seen a bit of a reduction during these darker/colder months. Have managed 1,500kms since Jan (that's got to count for something right?!) I'm good friends with the guy who owns my ex so I'm always eyeing it up for a potential buy-back once I hit mid-life crisis age ?

Looking super clean. Love it. Nice to see something other than the VSXX's doing the rounds in shoe selection. Beautiful example. Now don't get rid of it! You'll just regret it ?

Comes from the Land rover clubs in UK... nitpicky pratts that will go totally off the deep end if they suspect that an old land rover has been put together/restored with the incorrect number of rivets... etc... much like the small group of BMW "rivet counters" on this forum that anally go after any car that is not OEM (in their absolute opinions of course!)

Finally got the time to install the last of my Bavsound speaker upgrade, the front components (tweers and larger drivers, mid range is left standard) Taking the drivers door card off would also hopefully allow me to address the rattle coming from inside the door, this turnd out to be one of the metal clips that hold the window strip at the top of the door, had come off. Some how. Got the speakers in no worries, direct fit so was easy install. It wasnt until i did the passenger door i noticed the wiring between the 2 doors was different! upon closer inspection (after removing the drivers door card again (gah)) i noted the on the drivers side the mid range and the pinch sensor wire were plugged into the wrong spots( from previous owner / whichever did the work, I just plugged in where unplugged ), so the mid range wasnt actually working! I reversed this and all is well Finished passenger door and auditioned thesystem properly before putting it all back together this time. Once all back together the sounds is so much clearer high highs, lower lows all from factor fitment upgrades. I had this system in my e46 and loved it there also. Now once my GROM audio replacement PCB arrvies to stop the persistent humm and whine from AUX Bluetooth mode i'll be set! Or maye i'll get an amp to add a bt more ooomph. Edit: now the window plug is back in the right place the automatic window close is now working again. Woot.

MHD is easy to use follow the instructions and use an appropriate battery charger and you are all set. JB4 is just not necessary, its a lot of money spent for what a flash tune will achieve. MHD are well advanced in thier map design so you get proven safe maps plus you get other nice features like data logging, throttle maps and torque by gear. Map swapping is something people say the want but rarely ever use. That said once you have MHD installed map changes are pretty quick. However before you tune do the following. New plugs, new intercooler, walnut clean if kms are pasy 70k and for peace of mind a new charge pipe.

Hi Guys, Just brought a M325i and wish to find a few of the BMW e30 performance bibles that people may have lying around and want to get rid of It's fairly tidy and all complete but will be a rolling restoration with the eventual aim to fit a stroker kit but keep it standard looking. Cheers

so last wednesday we had the first shakedown in it! all went well, but have a few things to change/work on as to be expected! Locked diff or lsd to come, in order to combat spinning the inside rear when cornering after it becomes un weighted rear wing to go on bigger roll bars (adjustable ones are in the pipeline) brake ducting is all complete! inside is being painted this weekend but for now, few more semi finished pictures, and some teaser pictures of a shifter that is coming to production shortly!

Real carbon fibre spoiler and diffuser fitting. Notice the ‘spare’ bits in the last photo that of course required removal to refit.
