Good weekend for the M3! Decided on a whim to give the Meremere drags a go and had a blast. Though the car is not competitive by today's standards, I was pretty happy to have gotten a PB of 13.9 at approximately 104mph. (Will find the timeslip) I also replaced the TPS to try solve the slight hesitation issue. The car definitely runs smoother now but still does always have the crisp, sharp rev that it should. I'll have to make the time to get it scanned and diagnosed. Still has all the go that it's supposed to have! Also stoked to have my new plates arrive in the mail today. received_430061327928647.mp4 received_504439176821928.mp4

Hey Team another productive weekend. Got the machined front disc and carriers back. Alloy rad also modded with filler neck and alloy overflow bottle, Bleed all the brakes and clutch system. Had to get the car going and ready as i dropped it off today down the the auto sparky, he going to attck the start issue and few other little things like wire in electric water pump. But other than that she should be good to go once done. My mate Conrad came over to help me load the car onto the trailer, i didnt know how this was going to go but started the car by bridging the starter lowered it off the hoist and mangered to drive it onto the trailer, i dont know why but cant remember what the car sounded like as i think i was more worried about the car itself. But Conrad has helped me with all the other car builds so knows the v8 rumble quite well. He said this one has a nice particular throatier sound. So cant wait to be able to drive and get a good sound clip so i can hear what it sounds like too. Also didnt help we were rushing as it was pouring down with rain. Ran into a few hiccups as you do, so found that the brake carrier still needs to be machined another 3mm off as it was fowling on the brake so had to blt the factory ones back on to get to drivable. I will get them redone during the week. Also one of my clients works in a panel beater shop for trucks and does alot of fibre glassing. We got talking and hes going to help me make a custom airbox utilizing the factor 6 cylinder ones. Ill also get a custom intake pipe to redirect the intake to go the the passger side. Will get more done with this once i have the car back. Thanks Team

It seems Brad had his offer overturned (too). Although until he wrote of it here, I wasn't aware of it. Someone else I know of, a thoroughly nice member of the forum, had agreement, verbally and in writing, that he was buying the cars at the asking price. He'd asked for bank details so he could transfer a deposit to the seller, with balance to be paid on collection - this was all agreed. There was a lot of organisation going on, arranging funds for transfer, sorting transport - all the usual stuff. Then the seller pops up and says "Sorry, I've agreed to sell to someone else who has offered more money." Not even an opportunity to increase an offer. Just nope - sold to someone else. The buyer I know of was understandably very, very disappointed. Yes - sale goes to the first person in, but once agreement has been reached (especially in writing), it's normally fair to consider yourself to be that first person. The buyer with the higher offer is understood to have been aware that a sale was agreed. We think we know who the buyer is (we aren't sure, so will say nothing), but I suggest anonymity is unlikely to last long with cars like this. Personally I feel that both the seller and the buyer who made the higher offer have both acted extremely poorly. I'm annoyed, and I hadn't even considered making an offer!

Just do it yourself, the Sonax CC36 stuff above is legit, and not the same as the generic ceramic you see everywhere. Its two stage, gives epic shine (more than a wax) and car was still beading 6 months later. The rest of the ceramic marketing talk is nonsense, totally agree. Go get a DA, some bug/tar remover, a couple of pads and decent compound, crank the stereo up and spend a weekend, save yaself $1300 Watching a few videos and getting a feel for the DA, and you cant go wrong (short of being a bellend and sitting in one spot with it cranked up to 11) Ceramic is no more work than doing a decent wax, sans the prep, the actual process of applying/removing takes way less elbow grease than a paste wax.

2001 740i M-Sport $7000 Genuine Msport 740i. Ex Japan, build date 21-3-2001. 195ks Sports diff so quicker of the mark the a std 740. Sports seats and black sports trim. 18” Mpars of cause with lower factory sports springs , rides lovely yet still handles really well. Too many cars and we’ve had 4 years, time to go to a new home. Lots of work completed on all the normal E38 things, this is our third E38 and unique being a sport. Pros Mechanically very good. Told Gear box was refurbished by previous owner and never had an issue. Timing chain guides, water pump etc all changed 2 yrs ago professionally completed. $5k Lots of coolant hoses and pipes changed. All the nasty rear ones and almost all the front ones. Water heater control valve recently rebuilt. Power steering lines and reservoir replaced Suspension rear control arms replaced. Front arms and thrust set replaced this year. Drives beautifully. Replaced front and rear license plate holder for Euro ones from Japanese for a cleaner look. Interior headliners A,B,C and rear parcel shelf all professionally recovered. Perfect and like new. Radio unit updated to NZ for RDS stations. Inside lights all replaced with led for an updated and modern look Reversing camera installed and links to the video unit Cons Pixels on dash need replacing. Outside is very tidy for a 20yr old car with a few stone chips and general marks Tyres are ok and passed recent warrant, probably only a year left in them

I disagree. My wife's daily is a fully (or near fully) specced '06 X3 E83 with M-Sport package (including sports suspension settings). While it's only the piddly M54B25 and lacks grunt, it weighs a couple of ton and still handles like its on rails when going around corners. I wouldn't bother taking it out on track, but it still puts a massive grin when going through the twisties. I'm sure the M40i is built exactly for that - daily duties and the occasional squirt. In regards to its size and shape, I wouldn't say it's pointless because there are reasons why people might opt for a taller car than a station wagon, e.g. back problems, but still don't want the X5 which is much more expensive and considerably larger. FWIW, I personally think the X6 is a stupid shape because you lose the cargo space, but i'm sure there are people who see the appeal of it and love having the option to get what they like.

The S54 flywheel and pressure plate will fit. That flywheel in the ad you reference is stuffed. - don’t bother going there. I’ve done a 330i 6speed ZF conversion using a S54 flywheel and pressure plate with the 240mm 6speed 22 spline clutch plate. All work perfectly together. - this configuration required an adapter for the pilot bearing, but is simple and reliable. let me know if you have any questions on the conversion.. and there’s heaps of stuff online .. cheers

Yes the demand has fallen off for these cars., not only here. You only have to look how long some of them have been for sale, well over 12 months in some cases, and one or two here in NZ coming up for close to two years. While you suggest there is a significant premium, the only way to make a sale is to discount that.

Spent yesterday swapping out a rather tired 300km interior for a set in better condition. Front seats, back seat, front door cards, taking care of a number of sub-optimal aspects along the way... Along with a replaced very good paddled steering wheel and a new gear shift knob, plus a Aux input radio - has completely transformed the interior.. The old set is up for sale (last photo), going cheap $200? Average condition, electric sports seats, pm me... Next up... the diff bush...
