For that price it's worth getting one just to hack the mufflers off it and burn around town doing skids making a racket in it and goofing off with the boys. Would be a blast.

I'm local (Hamilton based), and have inpa that should work on your car. (works on my e36s) It does depend on the cable you use as the others have said. Flick me a pm and we can give it a go.

Nick Weitz has some staggered style 32s on a car at his place in Hamilton, it's on trademe at the moment it's a silver 318is motorsport with staggered wheels, maybe you should give him a bell.

I agree that an old computer with ADS is the better way to go. Finding the old computer with a com port is the hard part, then there is the setting up of the system. I was please to finally find an alternative in the Foxwell NT530 that talks both OBD1/ADS and OBD2 to cover my needs.

i know it might be tempting to go with whats available but I would hold out for some staggered wheels. the 8" combined with high offset of 47 on the rear will reduce the track width a bit.

Yeah, you don't need to spend much but you need a little technical nous (or an IT friend) to get ADS up and running properly. I have all the config files I can share should you choose to go that route. Edit: if you simply want a scan and are up in Auckland at any stage drop me a line, can do it on my rig for free.

I have an e36 318is MSport, with staggered Style 32 Wheels, and I am running 225/45x17 on the front, and 235/45 x17 on the rear, as that what was fitted when I bought the car and they appear to work fine, though I do note that BMW recommend 245/40x17 for the rear on their sticker on the B pillar. I am pretty sure the rear is 8.5” with the front being 7.5”. I chose Goodyear Assurances Triplemax 2s as they worked fine on my 2009 Accord Euro wagon, and they seem to work fine on the 318 as well, and they aren’t too expensive. From memory, the rears were actually cheaper than the fronts as they are were a more common size. Hope that helps!

I think mine had that, but the autolock on drive away stopped it happening

Getting an old laptop with a serial port is the way to go, but not as easy to set up as the plug and play foxwell I have a tinyADS interface for pre obd2 cars and run win7 on an old HP elitebook and it works extremely well for early and later model

It's probably due to the reasonable performance, of a reasonably reliable BMW engine, in the classic NA straight 6 that BMW is known for. Currently they're in excellent bang for buck cars. (130i, 330i, 530i)

Minor upgrade to the center console, got sick of cables dingle-dangling all over the show. I have the Grom USB and BT car kit, with a mag-connect USB cable. Replaced the little coin tray with one that can hold the flash drive and phone as well as the coins. Just flick the cable over to the phone when it needs a charge. Works good apart from the 3d printed bits warping in the sun, and being a bit sh*t on the eyeballs; but you have to piss with the cock you got, right!

Been a while since I updated this thread, done a few minor changes since (apparently I hadn't updated since I got the new rims), new DME with stock manual tune, LSD went in. And got what is probably going to be a donor car, will try to revive her, but with a dipstick as dry as an arab's sandal I don't hold out a huge amount of hope.

It fitted ok, some of the measurements were off, so some holes needed slotting this time. Overall I'm happy with the fit and look of it, will see about getting some thick brush on plastidip for the edges... Anyway, here's the pics.
