Late to the party. Just a note on Steve. He actually did vanish for a bit. And it pissed a few people off that I know. Steve is actually a really great guy. But doesn't always remember not everyone knows who he is or how talented and knowledgeable he is. And can blow up at times because of that. He also gets a lot of time wasters wanting his knowledge for free when that is his livelihood.

The terracotta I now love. I have had cream interior once before. It dated the car badly. And not matter how much cleaning you did it always looked slightly dirty.

Not been much to post about in this thread for a while with all the lockdown restrictions, etc. Fingers crossed NZ is on it's way out of this mess. It did feel "choice" to be out and about in a suit visiting dealerships again today, sun was shining and even the traffic was good. And the pubs are open again tonight. Happy Dayz.

I'd not use terms like "stupid", though I do agree that at least designing for a hoist - if you're not constrained by space - is a *very good idea*. You might consider one of those barn-style structures where the central bay is taller; this will keep your overall costs lower by only building the height where you need it. Do note, you;'ll need thicke/stronger concrete and/or more reo in the slab where the hoist will eventually go, so design this in up-front. In terms of power, three phase may initially cost more to set up (just leave it to the board, no need to reticulate until you have gear that needs connection), it pays off later as you're not competing with home-garage types when buying ex-professional workshop (often 3 phase) gear. Green building paper between framing and cladding as an absolute minimum. Pre-wiring is always easier when the internals haven't been closed-in. When you close-in, consider throwing in some batts - particularly if you'll be spending evenings out there. If neighbour proximity is a factor, the noise insulation may also help. Physical Security needs consideration in design phase, to keep out determined low-lifes as long as possible. You'll have a lot of tooling and parts locked-up in there. Window bars, door bracing etc. Will you install an alarm and or camera system? Then pre-wire for it. Solar panels, batteries, and LEDs will keep your ongoing power costs low. If you need heat in the winter evenings, what about a waste-oil converted pot-belly stove? Consider a dedicated flammables storage cabinet (externally-vented) or even an external shed away from your garage/vehicle shed. Paint/Fuel/Solvents/Lubricants all present a fire risk if an ignition source becomes available. Where will welding be done? (hopefully not near the flammables storage) Do you need a clean bench (or room) for engine or transmission build work? Where would a lathe and/or mill fit amongst all of this? Natural light to workbench is a boon, though not at night. As Elijah mentioned, consider air reticulation, and where your compressor will live is another consideration. Once you've figured this out, and freaked out on how much all these extra consideration are conspiring to blow your budget, figure out how you can add these items in stages. And then, invite the GCs from Bimmersport to your garage warming party. If it's a shed lining party ahead of the BBQ, we'll bring screw guns, hole saws, jigsaws and skill saws too. HTH.

For Sale: 1987 M535i Manual (WR7470) Made in West Germany, first registered in NZ. Diamond Schwarz Metallic Leather interior Full E28 M5 kit from Factory. VIN: WBADC720X00645881 More info on http://m535i.org. I have owned this car since June 2015. I have put 12000kms on it since then. Current odometer reads at 303xxx Kms. Initially, serviced with BM Workshop in Botany and then I started servicing it myself. These have become very rare especially in manual and NZ new. Fabulous car to drive with the M30B35 and the 5 speed manual box. The low end torque of the M30 makes it a very easy and smooth cruiser. I only drive it on sunny days and it's been stored in a garage during my ownership. Needless to say, it gets a lot of attention. The car has some tasteful mods done to it - the whole point was to keep it looking as OEM as possible to the general eye. Style 5 staggered wheels 17x8, 17x9. These cost me $3.5k landed in NZ in 2015. They are polished without any curbing on them. I also have the original wheels with TRX tyres - I will include these in the sale also. Tyres - RE003 225/45 and 245/40. Suspension - Bilstein B8 with AP springs. I also have the original M5 springs which will be included in the sale. And I have a set of H&R springs which will be included too. Brakes - Stainless braided lines. These improved the Brake feel by a big margin. Short shifter kit and lightened fly wheel (by the previous owner). Custom Exhaust with OEM muffler. Servicing - I have serviced her at relevant intervals. 2019 - Engine, Gearbox and Diff oil changed 2018 - Injectors got cleaned by Injector tech 2017 - BM workshop - Spark plugs, Engine oil, air filter, fuel filter 2015 - Engine oil change, Brake fluid and new dizzy cap I have records from the previous owner documenting the service history during his ownership. He had the Cylinder head and Gearbox synchro rebuilt. The bad bits and the starting with the most obvious. Rust - The previous owner was proactive in getting the rust sorted and I did my best. Unfortunately, the sunroof is showing some rust bubbles. I have a Glass sunroof from a Saab 9000 which hasn't been installed yet. This is included in the sale. More info on mye28.com Internal Fuel pump - I have a Fuel pump which replaces the internal pump and negates the use of an external fuel pump. The mod is well covered on mye28 forums. I will include this in the sale. I haven't gotten around to get this done yet. Power steering pump needs replacing. I am sure Brent/Zee has one lying around. Front passenger window switch needs replacing. AC Gas needs to be refilled. Small chip on the windscreen, 2cm across. Bonnet struts are starting to sag. I have become very busy due to work commitments and other distractions and haven't had time to get the bad bits sorted. In the last six months, I must have driven about 500kms. So, I would rather see her taken care of in someone else's hands than sit there and collect dust in mine. She loves to be driven. Price - I had an independent evaluation done in 2015 for insurance purposes and she was valued at $15,000. I am asking for $16,500. This includes all the original bits and a few extra stuff. I have a couple of keen buyers but they are based in Australia. Being a NZ new car, I would rather see her stay in NZ. Will advertise here for a couple of months first. My contact no. is 021 180 4565 - prefer SMS or wats app. Edit: I am negotiable on the price. Can sell the car without the wheels.

Buy one in NZ. Much less hassle. Have a look on Trademe as per Driftit's link above, it's where most of NZ's car sales happen. $27000 is about as much as that car could hope to sell for in NZ, if it wasn't a UK import (people here are wary of UK imports having rust issues due to salt on UK roads).

Any rust or corrosion and the car will be a nightmare getting through compliance. Because you won't have owned the car for over 1 year you will have to pay GST. Shipping is all up in the air too. You would need to check when the vehicle could be loaded too. Many shipping companies are running at a very reduced capacity. Especially car carriers. Also don't forget the charges for getting the car to the port and out of the port once it arrives. You can't do this yourself in NZ. Spend some time un-uglying this one. 1/3 of the KMs. I haven't checked if it is a singapore vehicle though. Edit: It actually states it is. Hmm. I wouldn't touch it actually. But there are others. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2631646131.htm?rsqid=b1cc2385c8b0471aa826d9190dad147e-002

You should be able to do atleast as good in NZ. That's not a low mileage car. The car market in NZ is in a little bit of turmoil and could get worse as personal circumstances change at a rate of knots from fallout from Jacinda and Covid. Make sure you have made allowance for ALL the fees etc when you land a car here including GST. Customs entry, customs clearance, documentation and sundries, government processing, MPI inspection, port service charge, GST on all of the charges plus GST on the car. That's a few for you to think about.

The front bumper has been annoying me. Needs crack repairs then a full prep n paint. The damage and cracks : Starting the repairs. I’ve drilled holes at the ends of the cracks to stop them growing. Added a bit of drift stitching to the separated area. Was an awkward position to drill, hence blood. The next stage will be prepping for some fibreglass resin.

Nice tips and ideas Olaf. I initially wanted a barn style shed. However one of the only covenants on our property is that the structures stay single story. Even with a 3m stud I am going to have to get them to approve it. I found out yesterday going from 2.4m stud to 3m is a very minimal increase in cost. Security will be high. I have no windows or ranch sliders. The shed won't be visible from the road. I will still be installing a high end security camera system and physical barriers for the vehicles. I am currently planning to install solar on the roof of the shed. As it needs to be engineered for it I am going to plan that now and install at a later date. It will be included in my engineering for high wind zone. No extra cost. I'm going to get two mates who are commercial electricians to come and fit out the place. Staging will be a must. I want to put the Compressor outside in its own sound proofed box. And it's a good idea about the flammable stuff.

Don't think its tune nor maintenance, BMW V8 Turbos are known for this problem or valve stem seals and that's the reason why it's put me off from buying one. I've seen ones that have done 30,000km or less that needs new engine because the piston head decides to sh*t themselves
