Took the plunge and brought NZ Inferno's 130i, looking forward to the journey with this motor vehicle ?

I've since removed the failing node from the cluster and ordered a replacement, this node accounted for nearly all the failures in the last year.

I need to spend a night finishing off the HA failover setup but I just haven't found the time as of yet. In saying that it is currently hosted in multiple sites so if it goes down you can change your hosts file to 103.19.4.58 (from 101.100.136.17). I tried enabling HTTPS from within the site a while ago but it breaks pretty much everything, again I need to spend a night going through everything to figure out why it it is broken at each point. I was hoping that I could just tuck it behind a proxy and leave the proxy to sort it out but from memory the issue was around 3rd party elements. The easiest fix is probably just going to be a new site theme (again more time). I'll see if I can find some time to sort it out this month, but at the same time I am sure if someone wanted to acquire bimmersport and host it themselves then Ollie and Andrew would be more than happy to talk.

Some of you may have been following my progress on the E36 M3 here.. It’s had a lot of attention over the past 2 years on top of good bones and attention by previous owners. However it needs to make way for my latest purchase a 911. Mark from Classic Car Valuations will be providing me a valuation but I’m keen to get your thoughts.

~25GB a day of traffic and 65GB of disk (it was 300GB before I compressed all the old pictures), so something that allows 1TB of traffic per month and 100GB of disk would be about right, that would cost ~$20usd a month with Amazon lightsail ($350nzd per year). Whilst the site is not as active as it once was, there is still quite a bit of traffic to it due to the historical content here and bimmersport ranking pretty highly in google searches.

I think there's enough interest in these cars at the moment to 'reset' the market price. If people only ever see E36 M3s listed in the 30s then it's only a matter of time before that becomes the actual price. I'd have to think it would sell reasonably quickly at $25k.
  9. 2 points
being one of the earlier ones ('94), 3.0 instead of 3.2, and higher mileage will bring the price down a bit. I would have thought $20-25k depending on market demand. No harm in pricing it high because any interested party will get in touch and negotiate it to an acceptable price. Seems like prices of E36/E46/E9x M3's are all hovering around the similar mark nowadays but they are all so very different cars.

Very interested to see how you get on. I looked at what they're listed for over in Aussie and nearly fell off my chair! I'd say list around the 30k mark. I've always maintained that the E36 M3 has been undervalued for years and it would seem people are only starting to fully appreciate them now.

This thread hasn't done anything to change any timelines. I had planned to do the node swap last week but put my spare time towards sorting out a 2KCUP event that was organised at late notice. I only host the site (among others) because it's a chance for me to try things out on something production like, for instance things I might use in a professional role and for this reason I don't charge bimmersport for the hosting. You can probably now see how the above would work against sharing out the workload and dumping it in a simple cloud instance. The forum is updated but the theme is old, so with each bug fix the theme will become less and less feature rich as they deprecate functions etc etc.

Another one. Best value for money Bimmer's at the moment. I have had this for just over a year now. I purchased it sight unseen from @GorGasm on the forum. Knowing how well he looks after his cars it was an easy decision. Was in the US and needed a car when I got back. It has just clocked 108,000kms. It's all standard bar the replacement coil packs and some wheels (forgot the style). And that is the way it will mostly stay. It is our worry free commuter. I have a replacement stereo sitting in the US that I will bring over at some stage. Soon it will be doing daily duty over the Remutaka Hill and back most days. So tires, suspension, brakes will all be carefully maintained. But it really is a great car for the hill. I need to find a brake pad and rotor combo that is cost effective for hill duties. Suggestions welcome. I'm not heavy on the brakes but you do use them more than any normal commute. It does have quite a unique color combo though. It has Terracotta leather. Sadly it doesn't get washed much at the moment. Live on a farm up a gravel drive in the middle of nowhere on tank water. And it will soon be bug season. Anyway this is just a log of yet another E87.

What would it take and cost to move it to the cloud? I am no expert, just my 2c.
  16. 1 point
That doesn't take into account what you would do for backups. For instance I take a full copy every night for backups and push it to my home connection which meant I did ~7TB total traffic last month lol, GBIT FTW!
  17. 1 point
I think mileage will scare off enough people to impact value a bit - $25K maybe? What kind of 911? a 997 manual would be an attainable dream car for me, except not really attainable haha Maybe a 987 Cayman

Shipping was free. Was just charged the $245 USD. It has arrived, now I need to find time to install it.

That will pull back my estimate a little, but not heaps, say $2k. But I think we've already established I'm a rubbish valuer. ?

checked the m3’s spark plugs to see if I was running the ngk Pkr7a before buying some new ones if I wasn’t, but I was already. So Thought I might as well check them all out for any issues. Turns out two weren’t even hand tight and were getting some blow by. So thought that was my issue but it was not. Does have some more power though!

Its insane how much the market has moved. I struggled hard to sell it for $13k when I sold it. With all the work done it certainly increases the value, and its a very good example now, but the KM will be the ultimate deciding factor as it must be up near 250k now?
  23. 1 point
Thats a nice car, and well looked after. Well done.
  24. 1 point
Agreed. They should just remove the contact details once a classified has expired.
  25. 1 point
lol - I thought mine might be worth $25k until a near identical one sold for $37k in less than 24h so my valuations seem wide of the mark! ? However, if you've knocked off most of your wish-list in the link above then I'd say $30k all day and work back from there depending on how much is outstanding. I'm very, very keen to hear what your valuer comes up with!
  26. 1 point
it may not be worth 80k but at $36k i think its an absolute bargain that is sure to appreciate over time given its well looked after (and enjoyed in between)

Is it possible to have the indicator and wiper controls flipped to the proper sides? Any idea what sort of cost would be involved? Most euro imports are mounted in reverse & while its not an issue for me I won't be the only one driving the next car lol. Thanks for any info.

Nice one Brian, Dan put it out there for a sharp price, I'm glad it stayed in the BS "family" (although it feels a little too "tribal" at times!). Do you have any plans for it other that just drive?

I'm happy to contribute with both time and money. I expressed interest way back when but no one replied to my message. Also, happy to admin as some sound a bit burnt out and need a break.

It is actually about ownership and leadership, Karen. The owners of Bimmersport are looking for someone to take over - That includes administration, hosting etc etc. the whole shebang. It is no skin off of my nose if i’m a good admin or not. This is a free to its members forum forf**k sakes. How about appreciating for a change that a lot of hard work has gone in to keeping this forum running over the years. So If you’re up for that challenge then reach out to the owners. But to me it sounds like you just want to pick and choose where to add “value” Dave which is not the main issue here.
  32. 1 point
Appears so. Maybe somebody that thinks they're worth 80k snapped it up as a bargain?
  33. 1 point
This isn't about ownership, it's about poor administration, Admin. There's a bunch of us that want to make the site administration better, if you're all for that then perhaps live up to your title and contribute something helpful. If, on the other hand, you're satisfied with the status quo then fly that flag but stay out of the discussion, your puerile comments don't help improve the situation, nor do they enhance the conversation (or your reputation for that matter). Edit: o/t but it's interesting that the emoticon changed in the quote, conflicting unicode?

It might not have changed the timelines but at least it's given us some engagement and visibility which was sorely lacking. ? Even a regular monthly update would be an improvement. I'm not sure if you hosting the site for free so you can "try things out on something production like" is good value though, that actually sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! It seems that a consequence of that "free" arrangement is that the site is a slave to your availability and that doesn't appear to be a reliable operating model, regardless of your best intentions. Your last sentence highlights the benefits of using a hosted solution, we wouldn't be negatively impacted every time things change, and you wouldn't have to keep up with changes which seems difficult because of your other commitments. I suspect there are enough potential sponsors and donors here to make hosting the site "free" for Ollie anyway, and with the benefit of more effective maintenance and production support. If you share the non-functionals with us we can work out the most cost-effective operating model. I think you need to be open to the possibility of either more technical assistance or a different hosting arrangement because there's clearly a bottleneck that needs addressing with the current model. Hopefully your PM discussion with Graham will surface some of those opportunities. As I've said to Graham, yourself in the past, and other interested parties, there are many willing and able to help and many with $ to contribute. But nobody will likely invest in the current admin situation, it's broken.

Well the pulse was up thats for sure.

Thanks for the update @Jamez, it seems like the call to arms wasn't wasted after all Martin. ? Lot's of people have offered technical assistance in the past James, many of them are still around, you don't need to do it all yourself, let us know what support you want. We've also asked in the past what the site's non-functional requirements are, repository sizes, traffic, concurrent users, load etc because nowadays it's pretty simple to chuck these things in the cloud to look after themselves. Many people have offered to contribute to hosting fees but without the technical profile it's impossible to establish what those fees might be. If you can help with that info it would also be great. Invision has a cloud offering. Do "we" renew the Invision on-prem license regularly? If so you're entitled to access their support which might help with some of the functional idiosyncrasies that have broken over the past months (condensed view for example). These should be easy to knock over with support tickets.

Hey, ya she isn't so bad. Just something about driving around with it that's making me a little crazy though ? so really looking forward to getting it sorted. Ah that's a shame about the panel beater, disappearing art. I haven't posted the parts list yet because a previous owner of the car actually reached out to me and has been really helpful. He owns a bmw restoration shop in Auckland and so says he might be able to sort me out on parts. So waiting to see what he digs up.

thanks @Karun, you're most welcome. I'm pleased it's working out for you. Good to know I'm not talking sh!t either! ? The guy who worked on my Datsun in the early 90's is long-retired, he was in his late 50's back then, owned his own business. They were called Ah Wong Panel and Paint, they were down where the BNZ Building is being demolished on the waterfront (or that general area), did a lot of govt work too. I did wonder about them a while ago, looking into the company records (as one does) it appears the company passed on to family, and then closed down. I'll ask about the names of the panel beaters and get back to you in the next few days. You might want to post your parts required list (include the part numbers even, and the diagrams from RealOEM) and indicate which bits you've secured, and which you still need. Then folks here can help sort you out if they've got parts stashed that they'll spare you. (no pun intended) I saw your car at school last week, it's looking pretty reasonable... be great to get it sorted, no doubt.

I've ordered one of these for my M4. Ordered from https://www.android-car-dvd.com/. Initially they said they couldn't ship to NZ but later came back to me saying they could... Will see how it goes. I thought about buying one of those full Android replacement head units as they're a bit more feature packed and would add a touchscreen. But they look like they can be a bigger headache with quirks and bugs. Really I just want to have Google Maps navigation on the iDrive screen, don't care for much else.
