  1. So, more than I paid for my house. Seems a reasonable price for a unicorn!
  2. 5 stud wheels, Interesting...
  3. From what I have seen you wont be able to skim much, if anything, off the head before a valve kisses a piston, unles you cut bigger reliefs for them. The M42 has knock sensors and unless you are going forced induction the oil squirters shouldnt be necessary, why not just drop the M42 straight in? I have match ported and polished mine, there is a bit of room for improvement there, but the cams will make the biggest difference. I also made custom headers as the factory ones are a bit too small for my liking, and they always crack at number 4 pipe where it meets the flange. The 6mm /7mm valve stems diameters dont seem to make too much difference, but the 6mm ones leave a tiny bit more room for porting. Also, the valves are sodium filled so dont cut them in half! (Sodium can explode on contact with water) Good luck
  4. Yeah, I would be keen too, but its the wrong colour!
  5. Welcome to the forum, I think that is possibly the cleanest e39 engine bay I have ever seen !
  6. Nah, just carry a spare one. Murphys law says If you have a spare part, you will never need It!!
  7. Have you been offroading in it? I would suggest getting it towed to a nearby reputable mechanic. Where is it?
  8. Yeah, I knew they did a 318, didnt think there was an Injected version though.
  9. I would be taking it to BMW and getting it scanned. No point trying to guess. Have you tried ringing around a few forum sponsers for prices to get it scanned?
  10. It would appear that most of those issues could be solved with an in-dash electric pencil sharpener, im surprised the wrc doesnt have them!
  11. Not totally necessary, but definately faster!! The issue is usually stopping the spear of the shock from turning with it, not an issue if you are replacing the shock..... (vice grips)
  12. Is there any way you could attach your new seats to your original mounts so they still tilt forward, I Imagine It will Involve some serious fabrication, but might be another option?
  13. Replaced both rear shocks, bump stops, and top mounts in th e36, spent approximately 1/4 of the cars value on new suspension components! Totally worth it!!
  14. American octane ratings are not the same as NZ , use 98, it should get better mileage on it too.
  15. Picked up a pair of bilsteins for the rear of the e36, will fit tomorrow if weather cooperates.
  16. Wrapped (mostly, ran out!) Painted again, baked and installed, car is quieter now due to 3 less leaks in the exhaust, but on hard left hand corners there is a very slight vibration in the steering, number 3 primary is just touching the steering shaft briefly as the motor moves. I will fix it properly one day, in the mean time I will only turn right
  17. Bugger, all welded up, painted, put in the oven to cure, then realised I forgot to weld the studs into the second flange! so tomorrows job is weld the studs in, wrap them, and install.
  18. Started on the merge / secondary pipes, all 51 od, made another former to shape the ends
  19. It's also an auto, despite being listed as a manual!
  20. You should be able to buy it from BMW. Not cheaply though.
  21. Wouldnt hurt to check for vacuum leaks between AFM and head as well.
  22. I guess I'm just being realistic about my abilities, in a 500hp car with a 7 speed gearbox, if I want to go fast I accept that the smg box does a better job of swapping cogs than I can, and if I don't want to go fast it might as well be in automatic mode. There is no situation I can see that would be improved by having a true manual box in that car. And trust me, you can have fun in a 318is if you want to!
