  1. Awesome to see this in the flesh at speedshow today, looks even better than in the pictures, great piece of engineering so far! Can't wait to see it finished.
  2. Didnt you just pull one out of a soarer?
  3. New front wishbones in the e36, also swapped the front indicators for clears.
  4. Something has caused the rotors you have to warp, if you are not driving hard then there is a good chance it is a manufacturing defect, if it is then skimming them will not solve it and you will end up scrapping them anyway. I would try to get some or all of your money back and put genuine discs and pads back on. A defect in the casting or machining process might not show as run out but can still cause warping.
  5. Is the battery good, if so could be ignition switch related, have you jumped the starter solenoid straight from the battery to test the starter motor?
  6. I doubt it, depending on who did them it will be clear topcoat as used on metallic car paint, or clear powder coating, nothing special. If it was really cheaply done it will be a clear laquer spray can job, which wont last long.
  7. I had a set of reputable aftermarket discs on my vr4 that kept warping and on inspection the original casting and machining process had been done wrong so the thickness of the metal was not consistent around the disc, this meant that as soon as they got a bit warm they went taco shaped and tried to shake the car to pieces. Get a specialist to look at the discs, you may be able to go back to the supplier for a refund. I have had BMW discs and pads on my e39 540i for about 7 years with no problems. PS the aftermarket sh1t was EBC.
  8. So the best 4 door American car in 2016 is a Holden, sounds about right!
  9. The E39 has plugs on the washer jets, with heater elements inside the nozzles, but it doesnt have a switch its all automatic so might be a different system.
  10. Have you tried tapping it, that usually fixes mine!!
  11. Pulled the fuel pump from the e39 (again) positive wire terminal snapped off! Won't be buying another Topran pump!
  12. As in title, prefer genuine, prefer auckland area. TIA.
  13. Go on, you can live in it until the housing market cools down !
  14. Thanks, but I'm trying to stick with m42b18 at this stage as I already have 2 and want to be able to interchange parts as I make them up.
  15. I totally understand the desire to build something yourself, I have a few projects myself, but you can buy a manual e46 328 for less than 4k, I seriously doubt that you will finish the project you describe for less than that, and it will be a frankenstein, a 318is that has been converted and has a cert for being a 328i will not be worth more than a standard 328i. I dont want to put you off a project but it sounds like a lot of time and effort for a negligible reward. If it was me I would be thinking about what I could do with that money and a tired M42! If you decide to go ahead i wish you well and im sure you will enjoy it.
  16. Still for sale , wof has run out, will be sorting this weekend then relisting. Need to move it on so make an offer if you're keen.
  17. I hate to be this guy but surely its easier and cheaper to sell what you have and buy a 328i? Now thats out of the way, the 318is is a great little car and the m42 is the last decent 4 cylinder motor bmw made, if you are looking to unload one I could be keen to pick it up. If you decide to keep it stock they are still a lot of fun, I daily drive mine and I am seriously considering turning it into a road legal track car. It will never be super fast, but lots of smiles per dollar. Either way good luck and have fun.
  18. Have you checked the sender, mine did this and it turned out to be a damaged float on the level sender, it was soaking up fuel and sinking!
  19. I thought m3s had clear indicators as standard?
  20. After only 5, 000, 000 Km, they dont make them like they used to
  21. you don't need a cert for a manual conversion if EVERYTHING you use is an unmodified factory part, doesn't matter what gearbox, or what model of car it's out of (323, 325, 328 etc)
  22. Whats the worst that can happen? Its not far from an engine stand to the ground, and I assume you wont be lying under it while a troupe of gypsies dance on your engine? Your engine stand should have some kind of capacity on it somewhere, a bit of google will tell you what your engine weighs, the rest is simple math.
  23. Aren't bold subjective statements why internet forums were invented?
  24. That is hands down the sexiest car you could buy in 1993, but now its a collectors car, it needs plenty of love and money, anything less would be criminal.you cant compare it to a modern, mass produced M car.
