  1. Assuming it has never been in accident and had a repair! Or been submerged, or driven on salted roads, or parked at the beach, etc. Galvanizing is good but its not magic unicorn good, still pays to check.
  2. Everything. I am keeping mine well looked after but there are cheaper options if you want to go hunting on the net. Oil service $1000 New battery $600 Clutch / flywheel $5000 Throttle body actuator $1100 each New diff oil seals $900 Fuel $ all the money you have left!! All through JCBMW at this stage.
  3. E60/61 m5 is a LOT of car for the money, but be prepared to spend to keep it. Really depends what you need, I would love a 1M but need a bigger car, and cant have 2 M cars at this stage!
  4. True, but realising its been 600 km since you visited a gas station will ease the regret a little bit !
  5. What, no oil change today?
  6. I'll sell you mine for 9K, it has had all the above problems addressed, and I will throw in a 6 speed manual, and an e39 touring to get it all home in!
  7. That V10 kind of looks like it belongs in there, they just need to sort out the hideous welding on the radiator elbow and it could pass for factory!
  8. I have had a set of stoptech lines (from TM) on my 540i for years, never had any wof problems.
  9. The groove is where the join/s in the leather sits when it hasnt fallen off. I got an illuminated retrofit one from ebay for reasonable money. Not genuine but pretty good quality replica.
  10. Try SD european, I know they have a couple of e60s in their yard.
  11. I may have some but im not sure, was told they were e39 540 brakes but they werent, do you have a picture?
  12. Swap it for an m42b18, 140 hp and still decent torque.
  13. Roof insulation usually has a higher R rating, wall insulation has to fit in a 90mm cavity, roof insulation can be thicker, otherwise its the same.
  14. Finished installing towbar and refitted rear bumper on the M5. Now to do the wiring.....
  15. Hmmm, my 540i did 1850 rpm at 100km/h, does that mean it had the M5 auto transmission?
  16. Yes, moisture has gotten behind the clearcoat and started corroding the aluminium, you could spot sand it and clearcoat in patches, but as Dave said a complete strip and refinish is the proper method from this point.
  17. shouldnt be any rust worth mentioning on an e39, especially a facelift, unless its had a dodgy repair or been parked in the ocean!! Test drive plenty, buy the best one for you, v8 or 6, both have good and bad points. If you plan to spend 1500 - 2000 on it within 6 months of getting it you should cover most of the common issues, but it might be worth looking at a higher mileage car that has had the work done already (like my 540i wagon !) good luck.
  18. They probably chose it because of the shape, the lens is almost perfectly vertical, which suits the front of a bus nicely!

    e60 tow bar

I'll probably leave it in P400 mode when i'm towing, unless i need to pass someone!

    e60 tow bar

I got mine a couple of weeks ago from SD european in the waikato, might be worth a phone call.
  21. The M5 was doing this a while back, had a new battery fitted ($600) it has done it once in the 2 weeks since. Never had an issue starting the car.
  22. Swapped the front roll bar on the e36 from 24.5 to 26mm, definately less roll now but i will have to be a bit more carefull in the wet as the back seems more lively! Also, got the driveshaft and exhaust sorted on the e39 so it is back on the road after 2 months!!
  23. Just fitted a factory towbar to the e61, it basically replaces the rear bumper reinforcement bar, pull the bumper cover off, pull off the steel reinforcement, bolt on the towbar, replace the cover. On the e61 the cover comes off by undoing the screws into the inner guards, then at the front of the bumper it pulls away from the car, then slides back, the cover comes off by itself so no big bolts, there are 2 screws just inboard and below the tailights, yours may be similar.
  24. Bunnings sell a 125mm 750watt bosch blue for about $115, we have 4 of them at work and they are a good little grinder, nice and light and small so easy to get into small spaces.
