  1. We did it for the laughs but its seriously a part of her car now. (makes me cringe a little inside, its my old car ?)
  2. Old one was touching our heads on our way home from shopping on sunday so we decided to stop at spotlight and take a look at some materials.... In the end it wasnt my decision so we went home with a hugely marked down piece of fake white fur, approx 1.15x1.5m for $15, adding the price of 2 cans of spray adhesive and the whole job cost about $40. It looks kind of odd... but it feels amazing ?. The whole job took maybe 2.5 - 3 hours, a lot of that time was spent working out how to take interior apart and actually get the fiberglass out of the car in 1 piece.
  3. i see someone pointed out on another forum the e46 runs a 2 stage airbag so definately incompatable... just wondering if the e36 can be fitted inside the e46 wheel, it looks identical
  4. Okay so i impulse bought this : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MEWANT-for-BMW-E36-E46-E39-Black-Artificial-Leather-Car-Steering-Wheel-Cover-Interior-Accessories-Parts/32816504592.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.pWyU3A Then realised it wont fit my e36 steering wheel (same 3 spoke design less buttons). So im just wondering if this shape wheel can be retrofitted into the e36 without much issue? Eg do the airbag plugs match... Im not worried about stereo controls, ill probably rig them up to do something else / try make them work with an aftermarket headunit. I have seen people do the e39 button steering wheel retrofit to e36 so im assuming itl work... Anyway if so i want to buy one! if anyone has one spare please lemme know ? And if it cant be retrofitted to e36, does anyone with this steering wheel wanna buy a cheap cover? (black stitching).
  5. would i be able to get a list of all those parts / supplier? i'd really like to also overhaul my 328's suspension.
  6. Fitted new cheapo gas struts for my bonnet, Installed 7pin trailer light socket using a TEB7AS relay.
  7. Lol sounds risky, but whatever works
  8. Any advice on where i should source the parts for a vanos overhaul?
  9. Im not going to do anything like that for at least 6 months; But after that, why not? I mean the parts are just sitting there on a car that is sitting on blocks rusting away.
  10. So i decided it was time for a power upgrade... Flew to Chch and drove this home: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Axj7cVLA3HIU3UxoYL9TlSWbJJok1bji My previous daily has been a calypsorot 318i sedan manual for the past 11 years, im really enjoying the hp increase. So i've decided ill drive it for about 6 months before i do any power increasing mods so i can really get a feel for the engine. My plans include: complete new cooling system, m50 intake, forced induction (distant goal). I would really appreciate any advice from those of you with more experience than i with the 6cyl engine =), I have a good running m50b25 sitting in a junker at home (see previous posts), ill be using that for parts for the intake mod. Is it worth my time buying an EMP Stewart water pump? Do i really need the extra flow? i have read that they have a high failure rate.
  11. Looking for a cam position sensor for an e36 318ti, 1.8l twin cam engine. A new sensor is preferred but will consider 2nd hand.
  12. Hi there, The mrs' car is having issues starting, it stalls immediately after starting. After a quick search it seems the camshaft position sensor is to blame. Anyone got one for sale? The car is 1995 318ti with the m42b18 engine
  13. thanks brent that sounds like the ticket. can you pm me with bank your bank details and courier price to invercargill?
  14. as found on the the m43b18 / m44b18 engines can you give me a price for a new one and a used one please brent?
  15. anyone got a spare tensioner? need to know how much to ship to invercargill too.. Thanks -Kieran
  16. another update, just in case anyone else has trouble with this sort of swap. Got the engine running by cutting green wire #7 in the front 25pin engine harness plug, after some research i found this is the signal wire for the ews system to tell the dme not to fire spark / inject fuel. sorry for all the dumb questions! this is my 2nd engine swap and i have no mechanical training so im learning a lot as i go.. Very pleased with my success today, the 325 motor roars with no exhaust! -Kieran
  17. update: im half blind!, not really but my face is burning. The relays seem to be correctly oriented, starter motor is turning over... i wasnt sure if it was getting fuel so i undid a fuel line which had a lot of back pressure and spewed petrol all over my face =(. I reversed the fuel lines to the fuel rail in case i had them backwards. Does it matter which way the fuel goes into the fuel rail? Still hasnt started yet but its cranking which is progress. Im thinking theres a wire i need to snip for it to start (i've seen info on this before when others did OBD1 engine ->OBD2 chassis conversions)
  18. Hey guys, turned the key for the first time on my engine swapped 318i today, got dash lights but when i went to start the car the starter went click and i lost power to everything! The engine swap is an OBD1 1993 m50tub25 into a 1995/6 OBD2 318i e36, to i need to cut any wires to bypass the immobilizer? Also im not sure if these relays are oriented correctly... anyone got a working 325i for an example? After messing around with the battery and interior lights i got dash lights back but im too scared to turn the key any further!! Thanks -Kieran
  19. update: intake gaskets are $65 at bnt, my poor bleeding pockets!
  20. oh great so they 318 fuel pump will work just fine? time to go buy new gaskets =)
  21. Does the e36 318i run a different fuel pump to the e36 325i? Im getting very close to firing up the m50tub25 that i just swapped into my 318i, I've just reconditioned my injectors with new o-rings and microfilters and pintle caps but before i fire the engine up i want to make sure im not going to starve it of fuel. Also what kind of manifold sealant should i use between the plastic intake and the engine? Thanks -Kieran
  22. keen on those, how much to send to invercargill?
  23. the lines werent too difficult to pull out after the nuts had been unscrewed from under the hand brake lever, i dont think theres any significant damage or warping. The e30 handbrake system does look very similar (i have an e30 parts car also)
  24. update: i got the hand brake lines free from the hand brake, very simple thanks for all the help brent. Those little 9mm nuts gave me problems as i dont have the right spanner so i think ill be replacing those with 12mm when i reconnect the cables.
