  1. Taken a month of pulling teeth, but think Ive gotten somewhere. Got in touch with recaros Marketing Manager in the US, who got in touch with the VP of Recaro Japan.. and things happened. All the Recaro minions, like Recaro Aussie rep, were much less than what would be considered helpful. Documentation with the cert man... hopefully I have an LVV cert shortly.
  2. Id be checking the basics, like is the big yellow plug under the seat plugged in?

Yeah, had hoped it wasnt actually a VW as well... all the reports say they're better but proof is in the pudding. Toyota Ractis to the rescue, which cost less to buy than what Ive spent on Skoda repairs, and the 300,000km BMW as daily for a bit (as its way less of a ballache!)

Timing chain and waterpump/thermostat. In the US this would be covered by the class action lawsuits, in NZ... suck it up.

Didnt even make it 48hrs. 100% makes 335i's look reliable
  6. BMW Touring Coupe concept, best looking thing out of BMW in a longtime.. bit too many wings and sh*t.. and note how they dont show the kidneys...

Car owned by my company, no CGA. Turns out Skoda are as scummy as you would expect the VW group to be, spent 4.5k on engine work now... better not sh*t itself again, if it does will just fix it myself.

So parts warranty doesnt apply once cars out of warranty....
  9. Just looked, I got my HELs through ebay UK, was 130 pound.. pretty cheap.
  10. I have HELs, from amazon I think, no issues at all and no cert needed (cert man even commented, nice brake lines ) been through probably 6 WOFs with them. Don't quote, but I think the deal is if they are swaged fittings, no issues. I wouldn't suggest aliexpress units, but if you go BFgoodrich/HEL/etc I doubt you'll have any issues.

Yeah I spoke too soon Giltrap are good, Skoda came back and said 50% parts and labour... Why yes! I would love to pay for 50% of your dumbass part that still under warranty and 100% your problem and not mine haha.

In with Skoda at moment, confirmed they will be installing its third waterpump and thermostat as good will. Customer service from Skoda seems good so far...
  13. FCP just advertised something like 70% cheaper international shipping, havent looked, but looked interesting. Its not really apples to apples, as I have big yellow brakes, but really rate the Brembo NAO pads in them (for spirted street use at least)
  14. Ahh sorry, words, yeah faceballs.
  15. BMW NZ Discussion/Parts group. I paid 13.5k for mine 8 years ago, with double the ks, and it was cheap then. The 130i market worldwide is slowly climbing in value, places like canada can get access to the JDM stock as of late last year... its drying up... NZ's in a weird little bubble of cheap 130s, it will pop at some point.
  16. Id consider that to be a win. If you like the noise of a 116, you will love a 130
  17. Mint looking NZ New 2008 Auto on faceballs, 66,000km (asking $12k)
  18. Meanwhile a Nissan Tiida can drive around with its roof caved in, front guards falling off and bumper held on with masking tape without an issue. Great system, works well.
  19. I can 100% see why people dont bother with certs. This is like pulling teeth, when it should be easy.
  20. Pig of a job, cradle engine, drop lower subframe, wrangle octopus and get some out and in. 6 hrs is about what it takes.
  21. Thats a pretty cheap quote in fairness, parts and hours priced are low.
  22. There really isnt a small economical 1 series that isnt going to get slaughtered at being small and economical compared to something like a Corolla/Mazda 3/Other Japanese/Korean generic small car etc.. Most reliable 1 series will be 130i of the E87 shape, still not without issues, but they are also worth fixing... where as a 116 really isnt unfortunately. Could be a solid argument made for a 120d/123d as well, as the diesel 4 pots are better than the petrols, but still have issues, and it depends hugely on how you drive (not happy at city driving for instance). 116 is really the worst of the lot . F20 shape is more modern, but still have issues. As above, go throw the CGA at your dealer and tell him to fix it.
  23. In all honesty.. Itll cost you more than the car is worth to fix it unless you DIY and shop smart for parts.
