  1. Hi guys,

Im interested in this e39 that has popped up for sale at ChCh European:

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m5/listing/4564930233?bof=uZwwqzBJ

Does anyone know of this car or it's history?

I know that it was for sale in Hamilton a few weeks back - a couple of screenshots below from that listing.

Looks like the dealer has tidied it up a bit since then (most noticeably the steering wheel)

I haven't viewed it yet - I think I may struggle with comfort seats and chrome brightwork, but I guess that could be swapped out without too much drama...

    Cheers

    Paul

    I have TWO ( I know, I know ) F10 535D’s

The first, FROG, is a 2010 with 245 kms ; we purchased this with 150km on it, we’ve had it about 4-5 years . It was remapped about 1 year into ownership.  Pre re-map mileage was approx 6.4 l/100km on my regular commute ( 35 minutes, mostly open road); post map long term mileaage ( more than a year between re-sets ) is dependably 7.2 l/100km

The second, GECKO, is a recent arrival – a 2011 that’s delivering 8 l /100ml and has NOT been remapped

I am unsure why the base economy between the 2 cars, same model, 1 year apart, varies from FROG’s pre-remap of mid 6’s to GECKO’s not remapped 8.  Almost exclusively the same driver ( me ) and same routes

    Any ideas ?   Garry

Maybe check coolant temperature is getting hot enough to allow better efficiency, and that it is also allowing the DPF to do the required occasional burn-off? (needs to get to over 88 degrees I think).

I have an earlier e60 Diesel and it has had 2 x faulty thermostats over 80,00km and that resulted in worsening fuel economy until fixed. You will need to access the hidden dash menu to get readout of coolant temp or a scanner with real-time data readings.

That M3 is pretty sad too. ~100K km, 2005, factory manual. Nice spec too. Very nice car. Definitely going to be some interest in it even if it's just for parts.

A couple of screenshots from when it was last listed for sale in August 2022.
Sad to loose one of the better examples from our roads.

That sounds quite logical except... how do you explain the sale of 3x E39 M5s in the span of 2 weeks, about a month ago.  One for $40k, the others for more than $50k? Each of the sold in less than two days.  I know because I bought the 3rd one on the day it was advertised, after missing the 2nd one by waiting one day to call.  The 1st one ($40k) was sold by a foolish person who set the buy now $5k too low.  There is still one for sale now but, as with these M3s, it is overpriced ($65k, high kms). There have also been 2 or 3 Evo M3s sold in the last few months, though each of them took a few weeks to sell.  There is money out there, but it's not foolish.  The Evos took time to sell because they were price just above market value.  The only E46 M3s I've seen sold are top condition examples for acceptable prices ($55k).

But, to support your argument a bit, E39s are 'old man' cars and they (we!) are perhaps more likely to have spare cash.  M3s are 'younger man' cars, perhaps less cash lying around?

I think that there has also been a distinct "drought" of e39 M5s coming onto the market for the last year or so (but a reasonable number of e46 M3s), and when those 3 M5s popped up recently, there was pent-up demand to see them snapped up quickly.

I like the ciggie packet on the floor in the back 😂

Also a ciggie packet in the passenger foot well, so you never have to reach too far to find them!

Not a bad price, considering that it's NZ new, and a Manual (albeit converted). But, yeah, looks like it needs a bit of a tidy up...

  6. A couple of 325i e30s competing at the Hawkswood Sealed Sprint today in North Canterbury.
The black one was quite possibly the best sounding car of the day.

On the way back to CHCH, also saw a Silver-Grey E46 M3 on what looked like CSL’s heading north on SH1. Rego FZC 299

And same spec (3 Estoril 328i Coupes with Ivory leather in short time!) but with only 60km for a few K more…still auto though.

That one certainly looks good, although not keen on those wheels. I'm always suspicious of low Km Japanese(?) imports, but this one does indeed look like genuine kms - those Ivory seats still look very sharp.

  8. Yeah, I saw that come up for sale today. I suspect that the vendor intended to have it listed for at least a week , but may have made an error on the auction end date, with it closing the same day of listing. I'm sure if more people were aware of the listing that it would have gone for a lot more... I would put the value of the S85 at around $10k alone at 50,000 genuine km.

  9. Here’s another 328i Motorsport Coupe that popped up on TradeMe yesterday - will be interested to see where the pricing ends up. This one’s a factory manual and NZ New. Doesn’t look to be as tidy as the Estoril example, but still appears to be honest.
