Would that be the gearing? Or the extra torque?

I'm quite inclined to beleive both of you, thanks guys. I'll keep hoping for the Hyundai to sell, then make a decision. But, the 530i is a very very attractive idea for me, being a V8 nut.

In comparison to my Fathers 96 Coralla it's a far nicer car to drive. More torque, rides good, very very comfy and quiet, has a proper factory stereo and electrics, ABS and an air bag. Nothing wrong with the Lantra's, obviously not a performance car nor a sexy car. But it's not trying to be, it's a practical car and a great alternative to poorly assembled Japanese cars of the same time.But, it has more seats than cylinders.

I'm quite aware it's not an exciting car. Very good car though. Just lacks a badge and excitement.Please cut your arm off, I will help....

Cool thanks mate. I'm not fussed about it being manual [nice thought, but, I can't have everything] The V8 would be great, especially if, as you say, it's more economical.

Now I know all the specs, but, not the real world difference. I'm not too fussed about the power side of things. The question is difference in driving, comfort, road noise, serviceing/common faults and petrol guzzling on the open road. I want opinions on either car from people with experience in either case. I am really getting frustrated driving the hyundai [although I drive like a nanna.] as it just isn't as nice as my E34 was, but, mine was a 525i m20 and not really that much of a great car. I'll have a Morris Minor [No laughing, I love them] soon to do my economical running around, but, don't want the Hyundai as the open road car. Help!

I have driven a few and love them. The driving position is grouse, interior is lovely. Go quite well for what they are. Typical alfa, sounds amazingly sexual! Handle very well for a FWD V6 too. I would own one if the e36 328 didn't exist, I just couldnt justify one for the interior and noise. You may become addicted though, alfas have had an odd effect on me. They are beautiful cars, even the door handles feel nice!

I have decided I want a BMW as a daily driver. So the Hyundai is still for sale or open for swaps WHY. e30,e34,e36 would all be considered. An AW11/SW20 will also, only in manual. Or a 5e-gt or 5s-gt Audi, manual or auto with any km. If no swaps are offered I'm buying another bike. Tempt me not to do so. Details on the lovely Hyundai 1996 Lantra GLS 1.6 manual, very economical. New motor at 216km, I did the cambelt at 219km because I had to replace the crank seal and figured I might aswell do the belt [i'm a bit like that] Full fluid service at 219km and new wof at 219km. Two new front tires at 218km. Body has now done 221km [as of tonight] Very quiet and comfortable car, extremely easy to drive =D Was brought new as a housing NZ car in 96 [How exciting!] Bordering on immaculate inside! Wanting $2500.

They considered that idea 18 years ago, it was released in aprill 92 that they were considering building a new FWD falcon, smaller engines etc blah blah. This ugly and sinfull thing ended up as what we call the mid-late 90's Taurus. The australian and NZ publis didn't want it. Same old story with the whole "no V8's" in the XF model, almost killed Ford Aus.I will be suprised if Ford does go through with this idea.

This can be a problem. Security cameras? I suppose that could be costly. If he has already tied to tell them this, yet they chose to ignore it perhaps it would be a wise option to get the boys in blue involved and a great insurance company?

To be honest mate I would just state that you do not give a warranty unless the gearbox is installed it by a reccomended mechanic.

I would be checking the wire you mentioned to the CAS and checking for spark

SWORDFISH - Alot of the generic chips advance the ignition timing somewhat dramatically and alter the injector pulse rates [yes and can tell the car it's running cool to increase the injector pulse width] Sadly, the ridiculous timing advances can be very detrimental to your motor, especially your bearings. At the end of the day BMW had spent thousands of dollars tuning the already standard chip/eprom in you car and most gains made over that without expensive custom ecu work will not be worth it. I would rather save the money for a good service and/or a set of headers.

That's very true, but, like all inernet forums there are people "flaming".I find bimmersport a great site and has heaps of relevant and helpful information. The general idiot comments are not a worry, just ignore them or laugh at them.
