  1. I have access to an EPROM reader/writer if anyone needs help.
  2. The current flame surfaced generation of cars are beautiful. Sure in lower trim specs they can look a little funny, but that is a fact of life (and product marketing) BMW are working with a stratergy called punctuated equilibrium. Witness the latest Korean cars and the similarity to current/recent Audi and you will understand. Witness:

    Early e34 535's

Long time to reply... AFIK: Late 80's and early 90's cars wont have a catalyic converter, nor will they have an oxygen snesor. Since we used leaded fuel, had next to no environmental laws, and fuel was cheap, fitting a cat and oxygen sensor would have been a waste. The DME in these cars can only use engine speed and AFM to control spark and injection, it gets no readout on what happens after combustion, so cannot fine tune air-fuel ratio. I know for a fact that my m30 535i is NZ new, has no cat or oxygen sensor, and has a .150 DME fitted. My guess is that most imported cars and maybe some later model NZ new cars will have cats and oxygen sensors fitted. Because of the oxygen sensor, the DME can find the optimum air-fuel ratio by reading the exhaust gas. My guess is that most of the m30 535i will have a .179 DME with oxygen sensor and cat. If you pull the cat in these cars, provided the oxygen sensor is before the cat, there should be no effect on performance. If you pull the oxygen sensor out, the DME will go into closed loop mode, running exactly like the DME in a non-cat, non-oxy car. I have an EAT chip designed for the .179 DME fro a m30 535, but at the moment, it is of no use to me. Mark D from EAT has had a copy of the eprom from my .150 dme for he past 6 months, but is either ignoring me, or too busy to reply.

  7. Cant remember where, but I read recently that black metalic has the highest resale value, all the way down to flat white which will fetch you the least.

  9. If someone can provide some space I can upload it... 54mb zipped It has quite a bit of info on rebuilding the M20, M30, and M50 which some of the e30 brigade may find useful...
  10. Covers '89-'95 525i, 530i, 535i, 540i http://dass.doesntexist.org/e34b.pdf - 62mb PDF Enjoy!
  11. Could be that the LKM is faulty. Take a look here for DIY repair, or try talking to Brent, as he may have a spare floating around.
  12. I think you will find most of the ebay chips are made by people with an EPROM burner and a PC. You can buy a PROM chip like in most of the older Motronic systems for a couple of $$ and make you own by duplicating a reputable chip... The trouble is knowing where the original chip came from...
  13. You should probably look at why your battery isn't holding a charge or isn't being recharged properly before you buy another to fix the symptoms...
