  1. Looking for a new one, to replace the two decades-old, noisy ones I have here. Turn them on and there's a decently loud "MMMMMMMMM" heard.

    @M3AN bought a CTEK MSX5.0 nearly 4 years ago - how's that going, Dave?

Any recommendations for an all-encompassing unit? One which will sort cars, motorbikes, a quad (or similar), dealing with lead-acid, Lithium, maybe LiFePO4... Or would it be more sensible to get something specifically for a specific job?

Anyone with any recent experience of investing, or knowledge of good deals?

  2. OK.

I've had a chat with Ollie and have more info.

Question - how do we proceed? @Karter16 and @innoxious have expressed some interest (no commitment made or expected!).

I'm not suggesting any sort of secret society nonsense but if there is a small group of people with interest in running and managing the forum, it'd be good to explore some ideas.

That can be done in open forum, or more 'quietly' via messaging.

  3. I spoke with the owners a few years ago, but no numbers were mentioned. I did get the impression that something would be required, despite a feeling that the whole 'looking after the forum' aspect was more of a chore than a labour of love. I think I was waiting for a further comms but nothing came of it.

The time may now be right. A fresh injection of enthusiasm could be a wonderful thing.

  4. Parts ordered from the US.

Expected delivery date is still a week out.

But it's took 2 days for the parts to get from source, through multiple places in the US, to a plane, stopover in Honolulu, get to Auckland airport, clear customs, and get sent to East Tamaki.

And sit there for 3 days.

So I called. "Tracking says my package has been with you for 3 days. Any idea when I will receive it?"

"Naah mate. Docs say delivery around the 25th. Spose it'll get to you by then."

  5. In the same theme, but more of a disappointment than a rant...

Selection of items from the Rockauto site. So much - massively - cheaper than anywhere in NZ.

Until shipping is added.  Note to self: Rockauto source from multiple locations and shipping is paid on each location.

Now checking if MyUS will change the situation from my perspective.

@treone nah I've given notice on my rented garage, and getting rid of storage next will free up ~$550-600/month.  With a prevailing wind I should have the e30 project back on track this year...

I fell into renting space at one point. It was so good to have somewhere to put everything! But.... $$$. :(

Exhibiting self-control I didn't know I had, I now keep everything at home. And if there isn't space, then something has to go.

(Until I can build a bigger shed...)

Not the worst out there by any means. Id be more than happy driving on those until they wear out if i were you.

The HiFlys are the oddest tyres I've driven on in a long time. They manage to feel hard, squidgy, unfeeling and yet blocky, all at the same time.  Checked tyre pressures, checked alignment... No change in character.
If I were at all attempting any sort of <ahem> enthusiastic driving they'd need to be changed.

As it is, so long as they keep rolling in a circle they should be fine.
