What are your plans for the motor? Is it getting a rebuild?
  2. Time for an update; I swapped out the old head with its blown head gasket and its worn valve stem seals, for one I had reconditioned a little while ago. I had previously had the replacement head checked and resurfaced, and then I got it home and did a big clean up on it, including a valve grind and polishing of the ports. All new gaskets and valve stem seals were installed, along with new head bolts, and new timing chain and guides. I also completely rebuilt all the hydraulic lifters as they often get clogged, and this only cost me my time. I timed the cams by hiring the bmw timing tools from Alleuroparts. I spent about six days all up as I tried to take my time and do it properly. Every part was cleaned before it went in and was torqued to spec, before being checked and then checked again. Extractors were sanded and painted in heatproof black paint for a dyno-proven extra 5hp. New oil and filter and amazingly it started first time. This weekend I will tidy up a few loose ends, and go for a drive. I'm not sure if the eccentric shaft has to be specially timed by a bmw tech using the bmw software? A few pics; Under the rocker cover Out with the old and in with the new New head installed
  3. Thanks Ollie, I have ordered some stickers. You should definitely update the shop so we can order online. I would be keen on shirts and hats, as I'm sure others would be.
  4. Did this ever get figured out? Still keen on stickers

  6. And the 90's. I remember that place well
  7. Qube - what car are you looking at? An e90?
  8. They had to put chunky kerbs in the museum car park to get rid of us. I remember one very memorable night where they brought out the water canon. All the girls screamed lol.

What is your opinion of using the e46 330i discs instead of the e36 m3 discs? Would they be better brakes for the money?
  11. Its for a friend who is pushing out 700hp at the crank. I presume a medium case would just get toasted?
  12. So today I tested the head bolts / block threads. I could only access 7 out of the 10 without removing the cams etc, but they all held torque fine. When the car was overheated it didn't go into the red so I'm hoping the threads and block is fine. I will find out on the long weekend when I attempt the head swap.
  13. What mods are required to fit this diff to a e36?
  14. So, I shouldn't do the torque wrench test on the old bolts first? Is time-sert ing expensive, and does the block have to be sent away to be done?
  15. I seem to have a similar problem with my wife's e46. Where is the best place to buy a replacement battery from, and should I be getting the bmw one?
  16. I will check the head bolts haven't stripped out of the block, by seeing if I can tighten them to torque spec. If they wont tighten then its a waste of time swapping the heads, and the engine will get pulled and scrapped. I would absolutely love a s62, or even an m62b44, but I just don't have the money or the knowledge. Maybe get a bank loan and send it to Ray. What is more likely would be to swap in the m54b25 and box from my parts car. Its a shame to go to the hassle of doing an engine swap (plus cert I think), and then only put in a 2.5L six. All this doesn't matter if the block on the n46 is ok, as I already have the full gasket set including new bolts from a while ago. The engine already has had new water pump, ccv and hoses, radiator, sump gasket, fuel filter, oil cooler, seals and hoses done in the last two years so hopefully its not for nothing.
  17. More info here; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Community/MessageBoard/Messages.aspx?id=1620431&topic=7 Looks like they guy has history, and then denied responsibility, and then lied under oath in court.
  18. So planning on swapping the head over and doing the gasket on Easter weekend. When I swap my reconditioned head over with the old one, should I be replacing items 2 and 3; http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=EX52-EUR-03-2004-E46-BMW-318i&diagId=11_3189 I've heard they can break because they are plastic?
  19. Yes, if the block is toast it will be binned.
  20. I cant believe it, but I agree with Ron. First time for everything I guess.
  21. You have to include his history as well. What if he has thousands and thousands in fines, has constantly had his licence removed and yet still drives, and is a constant drink driver? The little sob story piece only tells his side of the story?
  22. We don't know that it was 'just a little skid'. Thats what he claims but I'm sure the truth is much more interesting.
  23. If you don't wanna do the time, don't do the crime. He knew the laws and yet he broke them anyway. We only hear his side of the story, and I'm sure the other side will reveal all. Probably had history with police and heaps of fines.
