  1. yeah I know that mate (s), the handling of the 4cyls is lovely. that was my Brother's response (he'd bought an e30 325iS coupe brand new), when I said I was looking at 318i... "it's missing something.... two cylinders".
  2. you tempted to build another track day fun machine, Brent?
  3. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1330454018.htm goodness. a manual e30 currently under a grand. well, yes, although it's missing a couple of cylnders and its capacity could be bigger, it'd be rude gasp, then turn to point and snigger. and it's RED. From the ad, it 's a 1989 and has 300k kms... Either use as is or do some paint improvements. Drives well for it's age. A few things do not work (e.g. the auto return of the r.h. indicator after turning. Service indicator, so you need to keep an eye on it). Sold as is where is. EXTREMELY POPULAR E30 MODEL IN RED AND ***** RARE MANUAL***** surely that 666 number plate is worth something to satanists?
  4. my friend had one in the 90's, purchased in TX, and brought south. It was a good car. It's not a 325i, doesn't have that dynamic performance, and is a different style to a 318i, with bags more torque. Think 525/528e in an e30. @eliongater can tell you all about the eta (efficiency) motor. I think that car is scarily over-priced. Sat for ten years, pumped up the tyres (yeah they seem to have flat spots)... $5k5 one wonders if it was sympathetically recommissioned (all fluids replaced).... or what else has been skimped on? A chancer doing a flip, I reckon. and 250k kms, and coffee coloured? It'd be a reasonable commuter box at $2k or thereabouts. World's gone mad.
  5. Data Reading========/////////////////============>Diagnosis One's simple and uses primary school skills. The other requires an understanding of the systems and component interrelationships. EDIT - and perhaps a smattering of spelling?

    Big Oops!

you've been comparing sauv blanc, chardonnay, and central otago pinot noir!

    Big Oops!

if it was an e60, it'd still be fixable though the insurers wouldn't likely proceed due to high costs. Gotta love a e46. Every home should have one!
  8. I'm watching F1 practice sessions from Monaco recorded last night and this morning. I've been disappointed with the procession that F1 has become, but there's nothing like Monaco. Life is good.

    Big Oops!

At least nobody hurt. Perhaps Tyres well scrubbed-in may have made a small difference. Still, the vehicle did its job, and you were protected.
  10. But yes, it's true.... like Blondini, I'm selling non-essential bits to pay for maintenance. Where will it end? ?
  11. Or errr as you say, just buy an e60? ? Nahhh, I'm not serious. I've paid less than a used Commodore for an autobahnstorming panzerwagen that has an appetite for sympathetic maintenance. I feel this is one of the best value cars I've owned, and I've owned 3 Nissans long-term! Yes it's three times the cost - used - of a used Nissan Maxima... yet it offers three times the driving experience, performance, safety, fun... probably second to a maxima in maintenance costs only. I'm McLovin it.
  12. Hey, you know there's a difference between income and profit, right? $50 is pretty small when you account for GST and freight. Oh wow - I just caught myself explaining reasonable dealer margins. (They just told me the pages were gold plated ?)
  13. ... possibly one of the fastest Bimmersport sales, thanks!
  14. P/N 01-41-0-158-269 UE (US English, I think). I'm not sure if it's got the Motorport Options in the manual, it's out in the car at the moment. From memory it has all the procedures for changing tyres, fluids, how to work the iDrive, navigation, etc etc. Standard owners handbook stuff. HTH
  15. Hey all you groovy e60 owners! I have an excellent condition Owners Handbook for First Gen e60 525i 530i 545i for sale. Buying one new from the dealer will sting you $128 ouch! Why not buy mine instead. You can put your savings toward some fine car care products from @Barryn A mere snip at $50 including GST and post to anywhere in NZ. I should mention, it's in English too! "You know it makes sense".
  16. 8 new coils on the N62B44.
  17. settled. Page Euro are enjoying success with a Dex VI full synthetic fluid by Fuchs that they say is BMW approved, so they'll supply fluids and expertise. We're going to do a drain and fill, I'll drive it for a week, then it'll be pan off, replacement, dry fill with fresh fluid.
  18. today, at 157283kms, this happened. I had a new set of coils installed. One had been replaced under @TermiPeteNZ's stewardship, I elected to change the lot given the age of the car, and their likelihood of failing. As I rely on this as daily transport to earn my crust, and public transport is 2 hrs each way, the car is very important to me. It was a job I'd intended doing myself, but have been time poor and mileage rich lately, having done 5000kms since purchasing the car. Page European were efficient, and visiting also provided the opportunity to discuss and agree the approach for my auto servicing next month. I've only had opportunity to drive it a couple of kms, seems more torquey. Happy days. I'll photograph and bung the used coils up for sale if anyone needs some spares to be able to swap out for a working (though used) one.
  19. saw this beauty on the way into town today:
  20. yeah, very impressive. nice work! (and yep, the link works well).
  21. wow, I didn't realise they'd gotten so unloved.
  22. mind you, the N62 - particularly an N62B48 would have a useful power lift.
  23. by the time you get it finished, it'll be worth more than your M3! How's progress? Property and cars are all speculative, though depreciation risk through mobile holes in the road must be greater. Besides, you're not so far south of the CSL; at least you're creating memories for your old age in an e46 M3, today!
  24. 1. doubleplusgood. 2. or even a sticker sized to hijack other surrounds! Lower cost, no dramas with NZ, NZ small, Euro, German... 3. a transformer made from different BMW parts. no, I'll get me coat then. Yes, a t-shirt - particularly on a quality shirt - would be great.
