  1. Someone has to be the wheel nerd... Style 63 off E53 methinks http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/63 ? Be warned, I've seen some 'non-wheel' pictures in this site. ?
  2. Quick update on the M5... All put back together Has been on a ~100KM run - all good The tints have been removed and *thankfully* the rear demister is still working - always a risk when tints are removed. I had a look at the standard glass on another E60 M5 and thought 'that will do' - so I haven't bothered getting new tints added back on. new LH wing mirror glass is in - much better it has a shiny new bonnet badge - the old one was, well a bit old and sad looking I asked Jon to replace the LHS fuel sender to try and deal to the occasional stalls I had - so that's going in next, along with... a replacement fuel tank! Jon noted the significant suction when taking the gas cap off to refuel - and knew straight away that there's a problem with the tank. He found a crack and it is deformed around the LHS sender. Fortunately, he was able to source a 2nd hand tank. So had hoped to get it back this week but looks to be early next week instead. Oh well
  3. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m3/listing/2692817821 '02 E46 M3 with 45KMs ... yes nice example and low KMs but $70K?
  4. Hey Jimmy and welcome to Bimmersport... nice touring! E61 550i Msport is a great blend of practicality and performance...
  5. Hey Aidan Well TBH I don't know the exact cost as Jon is applying T&M to this... Bearing kit inc Vanos line from Turner Motorsport - ~$2600+ ~$500 for Customs/GST Open up, inspect bearings and crank $900 Rest of the labour to come! So I'd say figure on $6K and if you have a thorough mechanic there will be other stuff that you end up doing - but it will depend a lot on who you get to do the job, labour rates etc. And I will let you know once it is done and dusted. This aligns well with what BMW Workshop in Akld estimated: "The big end bearings can be done in place. The same time you should replace the high pressure vanos feed hose. If all goes to plan the job normally ends up at approx. $5500.00 +GST." So put that in your budget - but allow for the other stuff.
  6. Update... The E46 has left home with my eldest lad who is of course now in the military! Our Mazda's leak was the repaired trans seal not being in place properly - Driscolls re-seated it and all good F30 was brilliant on the winter run to Castlepoint - just love the turbo 6!!! Finally got around to cleaning it today... Jon at Auto38 is making great progress on the M5 and I look forward to having it back soon... "it's an awesome engine to work on! Thoroughly enjoying it!" I've just ordered some extra bits from TurnerMotorsport - both accessory belt tensioner pulleys and belt, a new bonnet badge with grommets and a set of 10 NGK plugs. The old vanos line wasn't holding pressure - so the new one should make a decent difference new bearings are in and clearances are spot on (phew)
  7. I hope this goes to a good home. I'd so buy this if didn't already have both a M62TU V8 BMW and a silver BMW sports sedan ?
  8. See latest feedback on Pinkjellydonut:
  9. E46 back ... rear brakes done - rotors, pads, sensor front brake hoses replaced WoF .. Now to deal with the wife's Mazda - oil leak by the looks of things. Had to charge up the battery overnight too... Re the M5, I've been advised of another (third!) delay on the BE Bearings from Turner - for another month - so I've made the call to switch to BMW original parts for the bearings and connecting rod bolts. Not fair to keep it on Auto38's project hoist for soooo long and I do want the car back... Turner have been good at communicating - the stuff just isn't shipping from BE. ?
  10. I'm a sad sack and track the M5 market... this vehicle was previously advertised with 'tuned to 680HP' ? Necessary? No. Good idea? No.
  11. Nice! I quite like the aftermarket wheels
  12. The X5 is back with a brand-new ABS ECU, and I have a spare brand-new ABS pump in a box. Great to have it back Thanks to Auto38 and Autosure for great service as always. Just had the F30 in at Winger for service & WoF new spark plugs brake flush rear brake pads new front tyres (should have done this a tad sooner) First money I've spent on this vehicle ... pleased with the service and BMW Car Club discount applied without me having to ask. Nice. E46 is in at Auto38 for safety check and I suspect a noisy FL wheel bearing... before my eldest lad takes it away back to base (He's a proud member of NZDF now!)
  13. Welcome and congrats Jordan - nice photos too!
  14. Wow - gorgeous. Seriously want one of these but own 4 vehicles currently and have 2 in the shop... plus a lack of garaging ? Grr. GLWS!!!
  15. That's a good question... With everything that's been fixed/done and the amount that I've spent, AND how little these are worth - this really needs to be a keeper for me. I'll be picky about the next X5 i get and make sure it is a beaut example.
  16. X5 update - the ABS ECU can't be sourced so the whole ABS unit is being replaced - I'm paying the MBI excess and the amount over the single claim limit for an old vehicle like this. It will arrive in a couple of weeks ....
  17. ABS unit due on the 18th... Re the Mazda - got it towed this morning - and ... not a fuel leak - actually an axle seal failure and it was transmission fluid in the gutter. That'll be sorted on Monday. Slightly less dramatic I suppose @hqstu that LSD issue sounds like a pain ?
  18. X5 update... The driver's window was just a stuffed switch. That's a win! New rear wiper being fitted Autosure are replacing the ABS unit as the repair agents haven't seen these fault codes before - can't say enough good things about Autosure. This will be the final claim under the 4yr policy. Looks like Mazda Atenza 23S has a fuel leak from the engine bay. 4m long petrol run in the gutter where it was parked last night Had a look under it and there's clearly a leak of some kind - nothing coming out/dripping out now though. So that'll be a tow in the morning!
  19. This is a stunning vehicle in the flesh. F80 M3 definitely in my 'to own at some point' list
  20. X5 in with Jon for window, squeaky passenger door trim and ABS. The ABS repair guy hasn't come across the set of errors we've seen happen twice. Odd. It will be checked out... this will be the last claim under Autosure as the 4 years is up next month. Can't say enough good things about Autosure. Other stuff.. ordered some stuff from Schmiedmann... new rear wiper assembly for the X5 new trunk lights for the E46 (as the top seals are split) - John Autoteile units were $US30ea. Jon had real trouble trying to find replacements here in NZ and more importantly new RHD heated left wing mirror glass for the M5... well priced at ~$US144 vs $US475 for the auto-dip variation. It is worth noting that there are different parts for RHD and LHD vehicles - I expect this is due to the different curvatures being optimised for the different driver positions. Always good to use RealOEM to chase down specific parts based on your VIN!!! Met with Jon this morning, reviewed what we needed for the M5 and ordered stuff from Turner Motorsport MOST importantly - the rod bearing overhaul kit with BE Bearings and rod bolts for the M5's S85.... $US1580 few bits and bobs for the overhaul replacement hood alarm switch for the X5 - I've unplugged it currently due to the alarm going off at random times of the day and night- which isn't ideal So I'll be up for the 5% duty and GST on the big Turner order of course... but that's to be expected. Pleased to see I actually already had a Customs Client Code from 2016. One article I read recommended replacing the M5's sump pan with a LCI unit as it has a second drain hole and is less likely to retain mucky oil through changes - but these cost a heap ($US1200 from memory) and weigh a heap!! So maybe not.... Was looking at replacing the X5's rear door speaker covers as one is missing a label/emblem - but discovered that somebody has installed Soundstream aftermarket speakers and covers - so will have to flag that idea. No biggie. All good fun! ?
  21. In the latest development, looks like the driver's window regulator has gone on the X5... down works, but not up. So it's in the garage now in case it rains some more... might as well give it a vacuum while its in there. The 2 left side regulators failed about 3 years ago. Sigh.
