  1. Ugh soft touch. My Maserati had it everywhere and all of it was sticky. It takes ages to clean off and then repaint. I used this, but probably any paint would do. Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Aerosol Paint, Flat Black - 311g | Supercheap Auto New Zealand
  2. All down to age and tyre type in the OP's case. An old, worn all season vs a new UHP, I wonder if there will be a difference?

All my insurances have gone up significantly this/last year, with State who were the cheapest at the time. So, it's not just AA. Unfortunately for AA, they weren't offering anything over what State offer me and weren't willing to negotiate.
  4. There's a lot more going on under the surface on the cyber truck. Structural body panels, battery tech, steer by wire, etc. Euros are the cars crammed with gimmicks. China knows what's up, make high commodity, affordable, practical, and efficient ev boxes on wheels.
  5. Haven't watched the video yet, but from what I have seen of the new 5 so far. What is the point of it? It's time for some real innovation in cars. Cybertruck is a step in the right direction.

I agree with the anti capitalist notion, but still think we should have a strong focus on sustainability. Just because things will run out under the current system doesn't mean we should use it all as fast as possible.
  7. By the same logic you should replace them every 5k to 10k kilometers or within 2 years as the performance of a tyre drops off significantly once worn and aged, you wouldn't want to compromise your safety would you? There was a tyre reviews video which demonstrated a worn Michelin was significantly worse than a new budget tyre. Regarding the triangle noise, I think I agree, the Laufenns were quite noisey as well. The FRD26 seems pretty quiet though. Everyone has their priorities, as a daily driver not doing any spirited driving I am happy with the performance of my budget tyres and I think they have come a long way in the last 10 years. If I was still interested in pushing the boundaries I would look at something higher grade. I'm also buying in the 19/20" sizes and the difference in price is huge. Think $800 a set instead of $2400.
  8. I have had a few cheap tyres now and few/no issues, used to be a bit of a tyre snob. Biggest issues I have had with tyres is age and i feel anyone complaining about grip levels should check the date stamp on their tyres. I could be wrong but I suspect the main issue with the OP is that they're all season and age. Currently I'm running Farroad FRD26 and Blacklion HU02 which came on my car/wheels. Have had Triangle TH201 and Atturo AZ850 as well and they were fine. With that said I rarely drive spiritedly anymore as sadly the 535i and 330e just aren't worth bothering in that regard. I have an inkling that the new Triangle TH202 is probably a decent buy at present.
  9. There's an F10 520d M-sport on facebook at the moment for $8100. A lot of car for the money!
  10. Different experiences. There's certainly plenty of ratty, smoky, Japanese imports. I just don't buy them. Off the top of my head I have had at least 4 Japanese imports that are many years old with various mileages but appear to have just rolled off the factory floor. Usually within weeks of them being here in NZ they scratched in multiple places.
  11. Good luck finding a well maintained NZ new F11 Or any well maintained NZ new car.
  12. Wikipedia has the specs of all the engines, even if the numbers don't quite match all the Japanese models. The 2.5 is an N52. The 2.0 turbo N20B20 would be better. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_5_Series_(F10)
  13. Worst thing about black cars isn't the heat, it's that they're dirty again 5 minutes after you just clean them. It's a reasonable idea to wait for the right car. I wouldn't settle for one in poor condition, even if it is cheap.
  14. Not many available on trade-me at the moment. Here's my picks: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/523i/listing/4407845419 https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/535i/listing/4391340312 https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/335i/listing/4238028052 https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/328i/listing/4397012724 523i has the N20 2.0 turbo 135kw. Might be a bit down on power. 535i has the N55 3.0 turbo 225kw . 328i has the N20 2.0 turbo 180kw. 335i has the N55 3.0 turbo 225kw. I would potentially just stay with the car you have.

    F11 v E61

Yep super useful for the 5km round trip for school and the shops. I haven't pushed it enough to run out of assistance yet. Will need to take it out for a proper run . My 330e isn't an M-sport so it's not really that fun to punt around. What's gonna grind my gears next year is RUC, which is TBC.

Would have thought the c350e had more range? And sadly yes the 330e doesn't come in a wagon. My 330e gets about 25km range which covers everything where I live so I only need to use fuel when I leave town. When I do leave town it's sipping about 5l/100km and has the performance of a 535i if needed. Suits me at the moment.

That black 535i looks nice, maybe a tad pricey but nice. I was tempted to get a Merc C350e, but was a bit more than I wanted to spend. I can't wait for the G30 5 series to come down in price, as that has a 530e wagon variant, which is the perfect daily driver in my opinion. By my calculations diesel is only worth it if you're driving a tank as the break even is about 10l/100km. If you can get a petrol car that uses less than 10l/100km, especially 91, then you're probably better off.

Also have an F11 535i and it has been great. Similar issues (front control arms, oil leaks, suspension airbags) which can be dealt with relatively cheaply if you can swing a wrench. No major fault just regular maintenance really. Confirm it is big car. Think of it like a 7 series wagon. They do handle pretty good despite the weight. Economy for me has been really good for a 3L turbo and i run on 95. On the Hamilton to South Auckland return trip i get under 7.5l/100KM. Current trip counter is at 11l/100km though as it has been doing a lot of under 5km trips in Hamilton. Basically, open road you will see something around 8l/100km and in the city 9-12l/100km. Wouldn't bother with a diesel, waste of money.

f**kety f**k f**k. Went to fit new brake pads to the 535i and I have ordered the wrong ones. Anyone need these? Suit a F10 550i I believe. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-brake-pad-set-front-eur1409

    Quick rant thread.

Sold the 25 mm spacers that I had on my Maserati. The guy got them and asked if the smaller ones should go on the front or the back. Whaaat? I exclaimed. I've just found out that the spacers I was running for quite some time were 22mm and 25mm not 25mm all round as I had assumed. I can't believe I f**ked that up and it explains why it's handling was all over the place, it probably had a different offset on the same axle or the same offset one side. I lost a lot of sleep trying to figure out what was causing it to handle like a greased weasel.
  22. Agree with a lot of that. Looks like he's averaged 4L/100km on a 2.8 tonne Rangerover which is pretty good. I could get close to 0 in the 330e if I didn't run to Auckland and back once week, that trip chews 5L/100km. There's still plenty of naysayers around insisting that EVs are worse than petrol and other such nonsense, but as a form of transport for the general masses the writing is on the wall as far as I can see. The only exception being hobby/sport/enthusiast cars for occasional use.
  23. Now owning a BMW Hybrid l don't think I will ever buy a pure petrol car again. PHEV or full EV for the win.
