  1. Yes, my 535i gets into the 7's on the open flat road. The N55 is actually quite frugal probably beating the N52 in day to day driving.

    Quick rant thread.

Question on my listing, person can't figure out from my description if the clutch has been replaced. They copied and pasted the description into their question. Can you, Sherlock Holmes, deduce whether the clutch has been replaced? Also I despise the use of a random number of dots to space out text.
  3. Yep it could be something to do with the Kiwi-ness. I wonder if Americans find Doug Demuro annoying AF? I can watch him no trouble at all but his stuff gets a little boring after a while. Good on him for making the videos though.
  4. Nice one, well made video. I watched a couple of his other videos, one of a Legacy 3.0R of which I used to own one, very fun car to drive and definitely underrated. His videos seem quite good but there's something about his face/voice/manner that throws me off.
  5. Spotted on youtube, cool. Sounds like a fun thing to punt around.
  6. Tempting. Need to sell my car!
  7. 6.5% interest rate means no spare money for cars.
  8. Hah, how funny, that one is next door to my uncle's batch! Small world.
  9. I hope my car sells that quick when I list it soon. Sadly I think it will be around for months :(
  10. Trade me ad reads: Mint condition, no rust.

Seems like a good price. In fact I would be tempted if someone would take my car off me

  15. From memory the Vanos solenoid test isn't particularly good. All mine failed the test but the car ran fine, although the funny cold start pulsing noise might have been related? Someone in the US was trying to re-manufacture them at their price peak but wasn't having much luck as they would always fail the test. Wait for the mechanical insurance to call you to say they want to charge 4 excesses since there are 4 solenoids. May end up just replacing the solenoid that is causing symptoms?
  16. It's not an easy thing to get right. Hence a lot of muffler deletes, you get most of the way there without spending money on mufflers which can often sound the same or worse. If you're worried about overall volume or drone then I would suggest a non straight through muffler.
  17. Thankfully the solenoids have come down in price a lot. Used to be over $1k USD each.
  18. Just noted the video says they are 6 speed, if you get an 8 speed it should be a little faster and more efficient. Have had my N55 for 4.5 years and now at 125kms. Has had various seals replaced due to leaks and a failed alternator. Otherwise just oil, filter, and spark plug changes. There's probably more maintenance that should be done which i haven't bothered with.
  19. 300-400kg and 0-100 in 6.8 instead of 6.0 according to the specs I read. The 535i is pretty heavy already. Sure it ain't no race car but it'll do the job. Specs say the 35d and 35i have the same performance as well. And calculating off the spec fuel consumption and today's fuel and RUC prices they cost the same to run. The N55 is a reasonably efficient motor for a 3.0 turbo.
  20. N55 is fine. Oil leaks are common but otherwise good. Should be enough tug in one to get an X5 moving, it works fine in the 535i and would be totally fine on the open road.
  21. I think the answer is sometimes. I have had a decent run with budget tyres in the last few years. And yeah, aged tyres are the biggest no no.
  22. Interesting. The E89 hardtop looks decent, as you say, I guess they figured that would cover both bases. Will also be interesting to see what 7% mortgage rates do to car prices in the next year as peoples mortgages roll over.
  23. Nice. Oof the nostalgias generated from this thread. I'd love to get a new old TA03 kit. I had one as a teenager and it was super cool with the front mounted engine. Love/hate relationship with these things though as I would always kill the brushes in the motors and never be able to get them to go well again, or have the money to sort it out.
  24. Awesome man, live the dream.
