  1. Agreed value policy with Tower. Until now I was neutral towards them, at best. We use them for house, contents, and both cars. They can be annoying as anything, and disorganized, and such. They paid out without fuss here. Zero hassle, and whilst their admin department is horrible, their claims department was super helpful and effective.
  2. Nobody hurt. Car and pride only.
  3. Give Troy from Peninsula Rust and Panel Repairs a call at 09-428 3802. It's a bit out of the way maybe, but he fixes worse things than that regularly.
  4. The solution to that particular problem...
  5. Life's been busy lately, and I haven't had much occasion to post here, or even read much. Alas, fate intervened about a week and a half ago, on the day there was massive massive rain up here. Was driving off of Dairy Flat Highway, and during a minute period the rain got so thick I couldn't see. Thought something was in front of the car, swerved to not hit something, hit something else instead. There was a high curb and wall next to it. The wall the car might have survived, but the curb killed it... Damaged everything between the wheel and the engine, and from that oil leak, even the bottom end of the engine got it too. EDIT: That could be the transmission pan that got it, unclear. I didn't climb under to look.

    Quick rant thread.

On a bmw forum I feel it's a bit weird to suggest masochism is a bad thing.
  7. Replaced the evap purge valve on the 530i.
  8. Thanks for the input Peter. I haven't done anything here. My parents have been using my e39, and aside from not being able to sell it because it's actively in use... they've done me the favour of reducing its resale value on me. (it has a lot more scrapes and bumps than it did when they arrived 3 months ago, and I have a frankenbumper now thanks to my dad being used to driving a 4runner back home...) We've had some family stuff happening, that makes us think our 2nd car should really really have 7 seats. We're likely going the way of a Highlander, or an Outlander at this stage. I expect to be listing my e39 imminently, warts and all.
  9. Call around and ask for an agreed value quote? My insurance company, Tower, will insure my e39 for up to $10k for example, without quibble. With quibble/valuation, they'd go higher even. EDIT: Search the thread about Swann insurance too, they might be a good one to call. EDIT2: Check this thread out: EDIT3: Misread your OP. Sorry, no clue. (if that wasn't obvious!)
  10. My concern is a repeat of what I encountered where a cracked (visible crack, light shines through like...) valve cover was missed, but I got a note that my steering wheel was the wrong kind for my car. (It isn't, Msport wheel, just not the round kind PFL) Maybe I am being unfair. I knew a lot less about cars then, specially about this specific car... In addition to the missed valve cover, I was advised the car was in reasonable condition for its age, and it wouldn't be quite as bad as it seemed (this has not panned out...). Also, given I was a complete newbie, I felt there was a lack of explanation as to what the items in the list were. I was under the impression I was paying for expertise and for a report which would make sense to me, I got a report that would make sense to me today, and didn't serve me very well then. Does this make sense?
  11. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-windshield-washer-fluid-reservoir-2002-2002tii-1602-61661350644 That one?
  12. Did not know that. Thanks. I imagine they come out with a right laundry list eh.
  13. My only real concern is the fear of chain guides. I have spent a lot of time with my M54B30, I have spare parts, I know it better than any other engine (a cheap cheap claim!) Is that a real fear? Also, I feel I got burned by Bellar's on the inspection they did on my e39. Since Glenn's left the business, where would one go for an inspection on this?
  14. I am doing rough roads once a week and the Leaf is my off road vehicle at the moment... It's not a happy little EV.
  15. Mine's prettier, and cheaper. Surely this is all I need to buy a car. If mine was the M54B30, I'd have bought it already. Chain guides scare me.

  17. Taking the above to be basically correct... Repco trade discount rotors cost very near the same as Mick's Garage, give or take $25NZD. If you have access to a trade account, that is... EDIT: For Mintex this was true. For Brembo the gap was a bit larger, but if you get hit with duties at import time... local prices can compete.
  18. The Penrite Brigade is well staffed around here. I use HPR5 myself. Now, when my HPR5 runs out... I hear @qubehas a specially rigged keg at his house that dispenses Castrol Edge, and I might swith to his brew.
  19. Rotors man, that's the ticket. The benefit really is the shipping, so it has to be big heavy things FCP/DHL charge 3 limbs for.
  20. Yeah, you can buy brembo rotors from Mick's though... I bought rotors from Mick's, and everything else from FCP Euro.
  21. $40NZD flat fee for shipping. EDIT: This is why, and what I buy from them, anyway.
