I've got the second option, works well enough. Handy to keep in the glove box when driving my e39 on long trips. But as said above, ISTA/INPA is the best way to go.

Here's a great video on pixel repair - skip to 9:31 using a different method - no need to remove the needles, but you need to drill out a few rivets/screws I think.... Saw your thread about heater valve, mine has also just started to leak, where did your source the rebuild kit from?

Yeah I ordered mine back in June, it was like the second release. It was DOA and I had to send it back for repair. Then make changes with command line to allow the Japanese radio module/display module to allow it to run properly. It's bloody great. Definitely worth it.

I used an AudioVox media bridge for around 3 years, it worked ok. Sound quality was good enough. However the functions were very minimal as it just disguised itself as a CD stacker. Only the volume buttons on the steering wheel worked, the next/previous track buttons did not. It would stay on until the car had gone into sleep state (nothing in the car being touched or operated for 16 minutes) - this meant my phone would keep playing a song until my phone was out of range, it wouldn't always start playing again when I returned to the car. Bluetooth connection was sometimes slow to connect and the bluetooth calling was pretty rubbish. It died earlier this year. Wasn't terrible for the price but wasn't great either. Sounds like the DICE would have been a better unit. A lot has been said on overseas BMW forms about the BT audio being much better, especially when using digital DSP, if your car is equipped. I noticed a small bump in my audio performance with my NonDSP HiFi system. But like you mentioned, my system is all factory so it's never going to be amazing. The BB can connect directly to your cars telephone circuit using the right patch cable, performing better rather than BT calling over the stereo system. It will make use of the factory microphone/addition of a factory microphone as the car should be factory loom plug tucked away. It also talks with cars systems allowing a menu to be used to adjusts settings, adjust input volume, display song info, display coolant temp. Enable settings like automatic door locking and comfort indicators etc Super quick bluetooth connecting, the BB starts and stops music properly when starting and stopping the car. And of course the ability to easily update the firmware, Ted has updated/fixed many things since it came out. You could even make your own changes as the source code is all available on Ted's Github. I really didn't want to go down the 'Android Avin' road as it ruins the look of these classic interiors. Spending $200USD to keep things factory as possible and provide a bunch of features made it well worth it to me and Ted's support has been outstanding. Yes, the media bridge units are becoming hard to find, I think you can still find GROM units on Amazon and such.

So I got my Bluebus around 6 weeks ago. Plug into my E39, no power on the unit, no communication. Troubleshooted everything in my car and found issues to be with Bluebus. Contacted Ted (bluebus creator) and asked for help. Unit diagnosed as DOA. I sent the unit to him for repair, he offered to pay for the shipping back to the USA which I declined as his support and firmware updates so far have been bloody brilliant. He repaired it straight away and sent it back with 3 day shipping, at his cost. Unit arrived and I plugged it in, unit now powers on and the system recognizes it, but wouldn't allow control input to adjust settings/pair bluetooth. Contacted Ted again, had a reply within 30 minutes. Plugged the unit into my computer and opened a terminal (putty on windows machines) Set a different user interface settings as some NZ/JDM BMWs Video modules are coded for TV Only or Navigation only etc. Unit is now working perfectly, such an awesome upgrade for our older cars. Highly recommended and Ted's support was 110%

Excellent work! The NZ New boot lid with the wider number plate section ties things in really nicely. Might have to find a bootlid for my Japanese import and swap over, much nicer look.

Up for sale is my father’s 2000 BMW E39 540i Motorsport. Unfortunately, the automatic transmission has died. It still drives but will produce a ‘Trans FailSafe’ on the cluster, it clunks when changing gears after warming up. We had it looked at by Mainstreet Transmissions in Hamilton, they suggested finding a replacement or rebuilding this unit. This happened in February, the car has sat on his property since then, whilst he mulled over a decision to keep and fix or sadly flick it off…. Exterior: Reasonable condition, no major damage. Two dents on the bonnet - from a tree branch... A few scratches here and there, front bumper has a paint scrape and cracks along the bottom corners. Rear bumper has scratches and cracks – see photos. Rims are in ok condition, paint chips and curbing. Interior: Pretty good condition with a few blemishes. Everything works as it should, display on the cluster has faded pixels. Cup holders are still usable. Maintenance: Most of the maintenance and repairs have been done by myself and dad. -All coil packs and spark plugs have been replaced (2016) -Diff and transmission fluid replaced in 2017 -Coolant and brake fluid replaced annually -Engine oil and filter replaced every 10,000kms using Castrol Magnatec 10w40. -Timing chain guides and associated ‘while I’m in there parts/gaskets’ replaced (2017) -Alternator, battery, belts tensioners, coolant hoses, expansion tank, water pump, thermostat, fuel filter, PCV system, valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets (2017) -Vanos units rebuilt using the Besian procedure (2017) -All front and rear suspension components, bushes, arms, tie rods, ball joints, swaybar links. Shock absorbers replaced with Bilstein units (2018) -Front pads and rotors replaced, rear pads were replaced last year. -New fog lights last year Faults: Transmission issues – listed above Airbag light is on, seat occupancy sensor is at fault.. Drivers headlight a little faded Rear brake pad sensor is toast, replace it or disable the fault code Tyres are close to being worn out. Currently at: 261,446kms Last oil change was at 260,000kms WOF: Expired last month Rego: Until October Car will come with a few receipts, two remote keys (one key was brand new from Coombes last year) I have explained all known issues, this car will be sold AS IS WHERE IS. Yes it still drives, will it make it to Auckland? It might do but I wouldn’t advise it. Notes: -Photos show the 16:9 monitor, this has been removed and the 4:3 unit has been reinstalled -Missing rubber strap in the boot has been found and put back in -We have considered parting it out, don't really want to at this stage...
