  1. Hi all! I have a '84 320i that I am in the process of bringing back from the dead. On my list of to-do items is to swap out the slightly mangled existing setup for something that saves a bit of weight and gives a nice sound. The current setup I have is a slightly hacked up factory exhaust that has been changed to a single pipe halfway through. I would like to convert the car back to dual pipes all the way, but the e30 factory setup is a bit heavy and too tame in terms of volume for me. I have done a bit of research and found that while an Eisenmann sounds glorious (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wATJXGhi-70) it is also the most expensive by far. Like $1100 NZD + shipping kind of expensive. Which sucks because it is my favorite. Stromung makes a catback setup for the e30 that I like a lot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOQDkPOFLZA) and is a lot cheaper than the Eisenmann at $610 USD (currently that is $930 NZD because of the crazy exchange rate, so it should get cheaper again). Still a lot coin though. SO My bottom line is I paid $850 for my whole car and I'm not in a place where I can just drop 1-2K on a perfect exhaust setup. I want duals and a louder but nice tone. If that could happen for $600 or less all up I would be stoked. What would you reccomend as a nice sounding rear muffler that is affordable here in NZ? Also use a factory center section or use something else? Thanks guys!
  2. Hey guys, So my brake master cylinder in my E30 has pretty well shat itself, and it seems like getting a new replacement E30 unit is nigh on impossible from most of my usual parts outlets. Does anyone know of anywhere you can source a decent one from or ideally where I can source a decent E32 750 unit from to help get a bit better pedal feel in the old girl?? If anyone can help locate a decent one of either it would be much appreciated!! Cheers Mike
  3. Hi Guys, Just thought I would share my current project for my old e30 I sold to my workmate, I am currently modelling a front valance based off my E30's AC Schnitzer front valance, just pushing the lip out a little further. Below is a link to where I am at and to gallery of the progress so far. http://imgur.com/a/1GKyg Basic process I am going for with this one off is build a mold directly onto a spare bumper with expanding foam, carved to shape, glue foil over the whole thing. Fiberglass over the whole thing, Once I have established a reasonable outter shell we will pop the whole thing off, remove the original foam and build the fiberglass up from behind, I can then clean up / sand and body filler the front , primer and spray. Be interesting to see how it turns out, has been fun project so far, also repaired side skirts .
  4. I just wanted to get people's opinion on if $500 for 4x 15" e30 basketweaves is a good price (i'm looking at buying, not selling). They are in reasonably good condition but don't have center caps. I would also have to pay shipping from Auckland to Wellington, which I assume is somewhere around $100.
  5. Hi Guys, So iv got a fully dressed '87-'88 M20B25 with loom and ecu, gearbox etc all with it lined up. The only problem now is the wiring from the C101 plug which is round and has 20 pins, to my rectangular C101 on the '85 323i. I have started to create a pinout chart which ill upload later tonight, theres just a few wires i am unsure where they should go? There is scarce information about 323i's on the internet, as they were Euro spec and well you know, if its not US spec then no one on any of their forums wants to know about it. I also need a bit of help as to what will go to the C104 plug (i understand this is for the cluster side of things). There is a round connection on the bulkhead by the passenger side, i know this isnt a C101 as i have an earlier car but i was wondering what it actually is. Any wiring help would be much appreciated. Ill upload my chart so far later on. This is the first time iv done anything near this intense mechnically, but thought id try my hand at it. I havent got the engine yet but will have it in a month, so i thought its best to prepare everything now so that its easier when i have everything. The 323i L-Jet wasnt the best starting place but its what i have to work with so ill do my best to make it work. If any of you guys are around Central/West Auckland, and know about the wiring id be real keen to have some help when the engine is dropped in. i HATE electrical systems and having not much experience doesnt really help my cause. Im sure with some help i can get this done successfully, so cheers for any help you can provide me with! Also i know the connector changes around the time this engine was built, so i will check again and confirm. This will probably be the same thread i ask lots of electrical questions over the time of the swap. Thanks!
  6. Hi guys Up for sale is my e30 131,000kms M10 manual 15" Basketweaves Zender front valance Reg & WOF One of the tidier ones around. Has two or three cracks in the dash, a small tear in the shift gaiter and recently got supermarket dinged just behind the drivers door, however it is only noticeable from certain angles. Always been garaged, genuine low kms jap import. I will upload some better photos as soon as it stops raining. looking around the $4,500 mark. Txt or call 027 278 6536 for viewing
  7. Looking for a manual e30 coupe, preferably a 318i, open to all suggestions though. Ideally, north island would be great. Not too keen on vehicle transport etc. $6000 MAX budget. Thanks for anything in advance!
  8. My Pride and Joy is up for sale. allot of money has been spent on it recently as i never intended to sell it is a 1993 e30 touring it has had a recent drive line swap for all the best bits it has a m20B25 engine which runs perfectly attached to a 5 speed gearbox which is in perfect condition, also short shifted. it is connected to a freshly rebuilt LSD with new bearings and seals. disc breaks all round with good wheel bearings. no curbing on any of the wheels and decent tyres. H&R springs all round with good shocks. I fitted a ultra racing rear sway bar and whiteline front swaybar with new bushings this improved the handling enormously I also fitted new powerflex control arm bushes and diff bush which improved handling also. interior is complete and has dark blue leather front recaro sports seats in very good condition. has new speakers all round and a fusion head unit. tinted windows (legal) new badges and euro plates very good solid car, drives like it should with plenty of power mechanically very good paint work is average photo from when i got it, i am overseas at the moment can have the new bonnet painted for the right price. the last owners damaged the other bonnet swapping the engine so i got a nice new one put on
  9. Over the past few months my E30 320i has begun to chirp a little. It started out minor but has grown a bit louder recently and is starting to concern me. Ive attatched a video for you guys to listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO_bk3LXYvc It doesn't occur during startup and only begins after giving it a few revs, it usually takes until the end of my driveway to begin chirping at me. Its intermittent, kind of in sync with the IDLE, however if you give it just a little revs it disappears. To me, it sounds like it must be coming from the alternator. After driving for +/- 10 minutes as the engine properly warms up it fades away and all seems well. The power steering and alternator belts appear to be visually fine, they seem to be tensioned and have no visual cracks on them. One point of concern is that my power steering reservoir is seeping / slow leak down the hoses, which i'll be needing to replace in the near future, however I don't think its related to the noise occurring as no oil is getting on the belts as far as i can see / feel. Any help would be appreciated, Cheers.
  10. Hi guys/girls, Jono here, new to forums, taking my time to look through the topics (love jeffbebe's E31 who must live locally to me as I see it about all the time) and introduce my ride.... Brought this NZ new '91 E30 facelift 325i convertible manual done 165,000kms two years ago sight unseen from Rangiora ... Drove back to Auckland with the heater on full as temp gauge didn't work and some funky steering thanks to the tie rods being wound all the way in one direction (1 turn to lock left, 3 to lock right haha)... I'm pretty handy (and particular) so replaced ALL fluids, cambelt, waterpump, all water hoses, thermostat (old one was fine), temp gauge and adjusted valve clearances soon after getting back. Since then I've replaced the roof canvas and seals (last month, including stripping frame back to metal and repainting; b**** of a job getting the frame re-aligned after removing it) and various bits of trim and assorted suspension bushings... it's a labour of love, still plenty of things I'd like to do... PS: Always on the look out for the removable hard top on the slim chance anyone has one they want to sell...

  13. First time posting on the forum, been looking an e30 on trademe for about 2 weeks now. I've finally decided its time to purchase myself an e30 after admiring and dreaming about owning one for about a year now. Budget is around 5k Looking for a manual, but feel free to offer automatics. Dont want a convertible/cabriolet Preferably either 318i or 325i, not against buying a 320i though. Would love to have a touring but probably not in the budget Cheers

  15. Hi Guys, I need an ignition coil for my '89 325i. I have one from my '85 323i, but i cross checked the part #'s on RealOEM and they dont match, so i thought its probably best to get the right part for the job. Part # is: 12131286087 if it matters. It can be used, just as long as its working okay. The closer to Blockhouse Bay, Auckland, the better! But dont mind shipping i guess. Cheers!
  16. My beautiful 1990 E30 318i was in an accident (rearended someone) and the front is smashed in. I only had third-party insurance, but the car is too expensive to fix and I need to sell it. I loved this car far more than anyone should love a car, and I just want it to go to a good home where the parts can go to other e30s. I'm hoping to sell it to an E30 enthusiast somewhere near Wellington, where it will be loved and reincarnated (see what I did there?). Unfortunately, I'm a student with nowhere to put it, so can't part the car out myself, but it's worth about $1000 in parts. The motor is an M40 and the transmission is automatic. I put in new front struts less than six months ago, and just replaced the driveshaft giubo a few weeks ago. The car has been well-maintained and other than the front end, is very tidy. I'm hoping to get about $500 for it, but this is negotiable, especially if you're a BMW enthusiast. The car is in a tow yard in Lower Hutt. I've included two "before" photos and one of the smashed-up front. Message me if you'd like more smashed-up photos. Please message me if you can give my car a good home, and/or if you have a lovely E30 for sale. Thank you. Edit: The registration is still live (until about December!). The battery is excellent, was brand-new two years ago. The rear of the car is perfectly intact.
  17. Hi guys, Im looking for a plastic bumper for my PFL E30. Hartge or MTech 1 preferably. I would be happy with just a front bumper but am certainly interested in a full kit as well. Also, are there any OEM sideskirts that fit 4 door PFL E30's? Thanks
  18. Pulled my E30 open diff apart as I have LSD centre waiting to be put in. However, I cannot figure out how to pull the speedo sensor tone ring/reluctor/chopper wheel (not entirely sure what to call it, so see attached image) off of the open centre. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Hey Guys, I've got a set of stock 6 cylinder springs from my e30 320i. Not sure how much theyre worth but lets say $80. I'm in Auckland. PM me if you're interested.
  20. Hi all, My name's Harry and I drive two E30's. One being a 323i Baur and my other being a 320i SE Coupe.. 323i Baur has been in my family since 2005, was bought completely stock.. so far have added the following. - Full Mtech 1 Kit (minus spoiler) - Black Leather Recaros (Think the fronts are m3) ?? - Z3 Short Shift - Full top end rebuild Can't remember everything off the top of my head.. My 320i Coupe was purchased recently also completely stock and i have had a little fun with it... Im sure many of the users on her won't like what I have done, but each to their own.. Near future I am planning to turbo my 320i unsure of weather to find a m20b25 engine to turbo then put that in, or just stick with the m20b20.. but any advice on this is much appreciated.
  21. Hi guys, Looking for a late model M20B25 engine, that is running. Need ECU and loom and all that jazz as well. PM me if youve got anything. Cheers! Also im in Auckland so the closer the better!
  22. Hey guys, Would you happen to know if a E28 full manual conversion kit would fit on an E30? One has popped up for sale from an M20 powered car, and kinda want to jump on it ASAP cause its a steal. Getrag 260 box btw. Will the pedal box etc all fit in? Thanks for your input.
  23. Hi there, So i have a '85 323i that has a tired M20B23 in it and i was looking to swap in an M20B25. I am confident doing everything EXCEPT the wiring, any tips/pointers/help on this? Also because the 323 is L-jet, what will i need to change besides the engine itself and the ECU to make it a motronic? I will be keeping the auto 4 speed for now as i know its possible but once the engine is done id put in a Getrag 260. I am not doing the swap right now, just need a bit of info on what ill need to do etc. I understand things like engine mounts etc can be used, but i will be upgrading them anyways. Reasons for staying M20 and not going M50/52 is that i have been working on the engine for a while and know my way around it reasonably okay. Parts are plentiful and information is everywhere. Its a cheap simple little engine that i can handle so hence the choice if you were wondering As always, ANY help would be much appreciated as this swap isnt covered a lot on the interweb. Thanks, Rohil
  24. Hi guys, so i see that a similar thread to this one was posted a few weeks ago on here but i thought id make my own as i have my own set of problems. The car wont start, which is next to no help for anyone who wants to help me diagnose the problem. So the car used to start occasionally in Neutral only (Auto Trans), and i thought doing it this way would be okay until even that stopped working. When we jump the battery is starts every time but the battery has been tested and it seems fine? When you turn the key you can hear the fuel priming, it just wont turn the engine over. As i said i have had the battery tested and have been told its fine, however when i jump it the car starts perfectly. And because iv been told the battery is fine i dont really want to spoend money on a new battery if the problem lays elsewhere. Could it be the starter? I have no clue, but i have been told (admittedly the person who told me that literally just had a glance) it could be the starter. This is the ONLY thing holding the car back from being my daily, i have put in a lot of work over the last few weeks these holidays getting it all nice. Once the car can start everytime no problem, itll be on the road and i cannot wait for that! Thanks for any help you guys can give me, it is much appreciated!
  25. So my FPR in my e30 was leaking so I took it off to discover a munted O-ring. Now I have it off the car I'm wondering is there an easy way to diagnose if the FPR itself is broke or not? (I suspect it is - horrible fuel consumption, can smell fuel quite strong when car is running, and cuts out when sitting in traffic on really hot days). I have a hand vacuum pump so could connect that to create a vacuum, but then what could I do? I suppose probably the only way is with a pressure gauge? I don't have one so was hoping to avoid if possible.. Cheers guys
