  1. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1478396785.htm 1996 E39 528i 177KMs $900 - as is, where is Left sitting in a garage for 2 years Tyres OK but one is flat new battery but won't start and yes - mould on the steering wheel Not cool that it has been left like this, but probably(?) not a lot required to get it ship shape..
  2. Now coming up 18 months of ownership (got it at 232k km, now sitting at 244k km) and it's been a great (and somewhat $$) journey. I absolutely love this car and as I've spent far more than it's worth (price of a hobby..), it might be around for some time... although everything has its price... As a short summary of some work...; Interior and exterior trim/seals and underbody shields, centre console compartment and cupholders, watermark and clear coat scratch removal (2000 grit wet sand + 3M 3 step buff & polish process), paintless dent removal, rear bumper paint, VANOS O-rings, DISA (G.A.S kit), new CCV system, thermostat, waterpump, belts, hoses, gaskets, O-rings, fan clutch, fan shroud, wheel refurb, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket (weeping again damit), spark plugs, washer jets and pipes, fuel cap, radiator cap (1.2 bar) and a fair bit of underbody and wheel arch cleaning. New tyres Falken FK453 all around (rears today..). Also today I had windscreen replaced under insurance for a faulty rain sensor, now got a BMW screen in with the optical bit of the sensor factory glued... Also today headlight adjusters replaced and lens polished (not cheap exercise but cheaper than new lights...). Also informed that top right rear suspension arm is getting tired so a new set is on the way from FCP Euro. AND finally a new radiator from Schmiedmann is sitting in the garage waiting to go in (the original 2002 built one is still in the car - on borrowed time...). Most of the work above been done by myself and YouTube... some exceptions... In the year or so prior to me getting it, it had a front end re-paint (spoiler not original as headlight washer jets are missing - indicates a bit of a biff in a previous life), a radiator expansion tank, OFHG, and trans fluid renewed among a few usual items... Next year I think I'll have to address the paint on roof as a few historic stone chips up there need dealing to... Like all of our cars - it's had a lot thrown at it, but I wouldn't have it any other way...
  3. Hey guys. I've found another project car, so up for sale is my beautiful E39 540i Msport on genuine BBS wheels. This car has an amazing history of maintenance and receipts totalling $25k+ Car has done 188,000kms, this will go up as its my daily. Major things that have been replaced/repaired are: - The tiptronic trans has been rebuilt - $5k receipt - Cooling system has been replaced - $2k receipt ** Timing chain tensioner has been replaced - this is an important one, not many E39's for sale out there that have had this taken care of. - Belts have been done within the past couple of years. It's very tidy inside and out and drives beautifully. The leather is in great condition. Has the factory head unit but has had after market speakers, amp and sub installed, sounds very good. All windows work, sunroof works perfectly and the rear pop up blind works great too. A previous owner has installed an oil catch can and deleted the rear muffler, the car sounds lovely with a few pops and crackles on decel, but not obnoxious. Things that I would look into if I were to keep the car are: - Very slow oil leak - I think this is coming from around where the oil catch can has been installed, if not it's probably a seal. The amount of oil is very little. 3.9k ONO. Test drives are welcome and encouraged. Car is located in Glenfield. --- Note: car will come on BBS wheels in the first image. Cheers.
  4. Hey folks, Finally got around to taking out my D99 Dynavin from my now dead E39. Not really sure on price, looking around on ebay looks like $700+, so figured I'd start at $500, but open to offers. It's the WinCE variant, maps are somewhat outdated but otherwise I've never had a hiccup! See pictures Item is in Palmerston North, happy to ship and get quotes if required. Thanks! EDIT: Christ I'm terrible at taking photos. Oh well, the joy of seeing my overweight self comes free of charge.
  5. Just looking to see if any other 540i motorsports are out there for sale other than the TradeMe ones, looking for good condition low to med klms, with service history
  6. The led bar in my Hella facelift taillight has gone phut. Anyone have a good spare? May end buying new if anyone know a good vendor. Prices are a bit scary......
  7. Was at Zebra Onehunga today and there was a e39 523i with brand spanking new rotors, pads, springs and monroe shocks. Factory manual too. Looks like he had just got all new stuff done before someone crashed into him, so would be a steal for someone. Here are the part numbers on realoem; http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?vin=BT87387
  8. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1417088957.htm Carjam here. It ticks all my boxes for my unicorn, even if it is a bit of a damaged specimen. If the starting point is that it needs shocks, I can only imagine what else it needs... It even has isofix! What's with the non-Facelift headlights? Anyone in Rotorua who could look at it for me? 9. Merry Christmas to me... After 2 visits to view car, I made the offer and it is mine... a 3rd trip on the buses and trains to Auckland to drive it south.. I'm essentially the 3rd private owner, last owner 10 years, with a pile of receipts... So far it's had a damn good clean (wasn't even vacuumed), 2 oils leaks fixed (filler cap and sump drain plug), the lights sanded and polished, the interior mirror glass replaced, and more parts on the way... and more and more cleaning and detailing.... Drives good... mostly everything works... but got a big list of things to do.... wheels, emblems, windscreen trim, fan clutch, filters etc etc.
  10. According to @BreakMyWindow this is an member's car . ... and it does look very nice in anthracite. 2000 - with 145KMs on it and asking price of $28K ONO. Seems reasonable. Love the 2-tone leather interior.
  11. Own a 2002 530I E39. Not hard to fall in love with these cars.
  12. Irony of ironies... got into the e39 this morning to go buy a Nissan Leaf and intending on trading in the Toyota, much to my wife's dismay... No start, no good. I have a battery pack starter, unsure if it's not provided enough juice though. Cables not long enough to connect to both leads in the engine bay. I tried connecting directly to the battery in the boot, that just set off the alarm and caused the error in the thread title. Now the car has zero juice of its own. The battery might be dead, I suppose, but then it should have started when I tried jumping with proper leads from the damn Toyota... Anyway, this is what it looks/sounds like when I turn the key. crank crank, no start. https://photos.app.goo.gl/YnLNwpj4kwxvRCAJ3 EDIT1: Summary: Key turns, engine cranks (cranked, before I killed the battery...) but doesn't start. EDIT2: I haven't driven the car in a few weeks now, if that matters.
  13. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1369090051 price unclear (starting bid $7k) 195kms 'Sonderpolsterung' individual black and red contrast leather interior Active heated comfort seats Hi-Fi pro audio Bit of clear-coat fade Has had a bunch of important maintenance/replacement done Pictures are a bit rubbish but I like this
  14. My car has this listed in options in the VIN decoder, which is what I am basing this all on: S705 M sports suspension II I don't need shocks and struts right now, but I do want springs to bring the car back to stock height after the previous owner lowered it and the thought occurred to me to look into what new shocks+struts would entail... From speaking with FCP Euro, they tell me Msport 2 shocks/struts don't have aftermarket/OEM equivalents. I'd have to order the original BMW parts, which are... a bit expensive. I was hoping to get the "M Sports suspension (S704A)" shocks and struts from Sachs. Would they fit and perform as Msport 1 would, or do I truly have to get the Msport 2 parts due to fit and such? Does this question even make sense? Thanks!
  15. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1348042416 Seen this one about a couple of times, appears very very nice. Think the owner was/is on this group? Good colour too...
  16. Hi all, not my car but I thought someone out there might be interested in this manual E39. Enjoy
  17. Hi all, I'd like to do a manual conversion on my E39 Touring. I want to do as much of the work as possible myself (should be fun and educational, right?) and I'm on a budget so I was looking to pick up a manual parts car - perhaps something on TradeMe or Turners with a blown head gasket. My question is: Which models would allow me to swap a manual gearbox straight into my E39 with little or no modification? I appreciate there will be some re-coding involved (I have the kit to do that myself), and there will be other factors such as diff ratios, driveshaft, etc. I see quite a few manual 316/ 318s around, but I assume they wouldn't handle the power - anyway I'd like to know which donor cars to keep a lookout for as a start. Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers.
  18. Have any of you seen this site in the States and asking prices: http://enthusiastauto.com/ Wonder what the sale prices are...? Low mileage cars but crikey....!
  19. Working on my alternator to get to the oil filter housing gasket. Bottom bolt removed no problem, but top bolt is now spinning in place, having been extracted probably 2 inches now. Is this a case of WD40 and prayer? Seems so simple, but it won't budge either in or out, while at the same time being loose enough I can spin it with my fingers. Ideas? Suggestions?
  20. My car has a loud-as-anything flowmaster the previous owner thought it'd be a good idea to install. I don't mind it, but my wife sure does. Anyone out there have a spare rear muffler for an e39 530i? Maybe someone who wanted a louder car sound? I only need the rear muffler, not the whole exhaust system.
  21. 1999 BMW 528i Touring - UK Import - $2,800 reserve, $4,000 buy now Advertised on Trade Me... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1309572208 Phone James - 021 2870730 216,868km (ODO is in miles) Factory headunit - if you pay asking price I will throw in the stereo: Brand new WOF - Rego will have 3 months when sold Removable Westfalia towbar All leather seats - no major cracking, just some scuffed edges Load cover and cargo net in very good condition Air suspension in rear w/2 new airbags in recent years Sunroof w/new seal recently All electrics work - windows, seat lumbar, cold aircon Front tyres near new, Rear tyres only 50% - WOF says 7.7mm, 4.2mm M5 front bumper and spotlights New clear lights and lenses Rare Type 49 BMW wheels LED Angel Eyes Car drives extremely well, lovingly maintained over the years but have no time or space as have upgraded to newer model. Note: 1. Check Engine Light is on. I've checked the code with a Peake reader and they are: O2 Sensor Control Limit - Cylinders 1-3 and 4-6 O2 Sensor Adaptation Limit - Cylinders 1-3 and 4-6 Most likely points to a vaccum leak 2. Fuel transfer pump needs looking at - basically it runs out of fuel at 1/4 left in tank. Both not hard or expensive jobs, I just don't have time to look at them.
  22. Hi all, I only just found out about the group after talking to a friend of mine who is also a member. I am currently restoring a 1973 2002 baur but have got a problem with my day to day Runabout e39 station wagon that I need to get fixed. I need a subframe bushing tool, so if you have one that you want to hire out or want to sell, please let me know. cheers - Jet
