  6. So, I've been looking at and researching various different cars for some time. I wanted something "oldish" (but still quick) so that I could learn about doing general maintenance things myself, and maybe some upgrades in future. I always liked BMWs, and the more I read about the much loved e46, the more I wanted one. I was quite keen on coupes for awhile, but figured 4 doors would be more practical as I plan on owning it for some time. So I bought this: She's a NZ new, 2003 330i M Sport, barely run in with 181 kms. Came with all the BMW booklets (about 7 different ones) and a pretty comprehensive service history since new, mostly from BMW Dealers and European Specialists. There were even some receipts and inspection doc.s from a couple of owners previous, showing it's been around the country a bit. Unfortunately it was a $1 dollar reserve auction as a trade-in from a dealer, so I didn't have much time to organise a proper PPI myself. Regardless, I took it for a good test drive and there was only a window regulator and a slight steering creak (only at start) that I noticed as things needing attention. It does need a little cleaning up in some areas, but for the most part it's surprisingly clean and straight, and drives like it's done a lot less travel. Everything seems to be stock standard instead of the shoes, which I think are style 127s? Anyway, I'll have it looked at by a specialist in the near future to identify any big problem areas. For now though, I'm really stoked with my purchase, and am looking forward to begin practicing some DIY here and there. Most importantly, I really am impressed with the way it drives and handles... it's alot of fun!
  7. Hey - signed up a few months ago and have been stalking since - thought it was time to introduce myself! Picked up my first BMW, a 2000 E46 325i touring a couple of months ago. Got off to a rough start (literally, though still haven't 100% solved it) but have completely fallen in love with it. Cheers, Dan

  11. Purchased a BMW M3 for my partner and supercharged her with E46 M3 VT2-575 Supercharger System (Gen.3) - ESS Tuning The top of the line, intercooled Gen.3 S54 VT2-575 supercharger system produces 575hp and 360lb-ft of torque at 10psi of boost. A 232hp gain over stock, eclipsing the output of a Nissan GTR! Featuring the highly efficent, extremely durable and self contained Vortech V3 supercharger unit in Si trim, the supercharger is capable of producing up to 775hp. Added Blistein PSS10 Coilovers and a few other bits and bobs to her. She's a beauty!

  13. Surprise suprise the clips for the front hood grilles have broken off. Does anyone have parts available for a 1999 320i? Or can anyone suggest a tidy fix so I can reuse the ones with broken clips? Am located in Dunedin but happy to get them courier here. Cheers
  14. HI guys, I'm looking at someone to certify my Supercharged E46 M3 2002 to sell. I'm either thinking on selling it without the cert 28k or sellig with the cert 32k . It needs cert for Blistein Adjustables Coilovers , and Supercharger. Last i heard from JTune it needed Drive Shaft Loops to pass. Anyone know of a place that can install the drive shaft loops in Auckland? Preferably south auckland but anywhere is fine. Muchly appreciated! Sam
  15. Hi Looking for a good running BMW M52TUB25 engine for my daughters E46 323i. PM me it you have one. This post is targeted at the normal forum member who may have an engine gathering dust in their shed. I have already sent Emails to the usual commercial BMW parts recyclers including this forums sponsor. Just changed the oil in the car and found lots of metal partials, slight knock in the engine, sounds like 1 big end minimum. Time to change the engine. Have considered and researched a range of alternative engine swaps, strokers etc and have decided to stick to the 2.5 L engine so that I don't get caught in Xmas rush time delays trying to certify fitting a bigger engine. Would consider a M54B25 if someone could tell me how to set it up to run it with a Siemans MS42 DME. Regards Murray Wall Phone 021 053 6070
  16. So the other day my old man decided we need more BMW's.... We picked up a 323i E21 factory 5 speed manual (Not the dogleg box ) thats straight as alltho needs paint, and has 6.5k of recipts for engine work with the rego on hold! In this same deal we also got a REG and WOF'd PFL 320i E30 sedan, it has a mint dash and runs mint! Needs some paint and the only downside to the cloth interior is one little cigerette butt burn in the drivers seat! These add to my collection of 2 e36 Ti's, my little brothers e30 coupe and my old mans E46 touring and 74 2002. Now.... what would a good running 323i e21 5 speed manual be worth these days if we were to respray it and tidy it all up? The E30 I am trying to claim for myself to paint up and keep as a little toy or as a daily while the 328Ti becomes more of a garage queen getting more time and money thrown at it
  17. I'm looking for an e46 convertible. There are a few 325/330's on trademe at around $10–15K — but almost all of them seem to have been there a while and the only couple I've seen that were offered as an auction failed to meet the reserve. e.g. the first couple of times around this one got to about $3K and stalled http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1193283076.htm There's one in Christchurch (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1193998240.htm) that hasn't sold and it's offered for only $7,200. Anyone have any opinions on the actual value of these? I haven't been looking long enough to really know what they end up selling for I guess.
  18. 1998 E46 328i Sedan, Auto Trans is in emergency mode with the little Cog next t the gear indicator. Seems to operate ok and doesnt shift nastily or anything. I've hooked up my carsoft 910 and it reads 97 CAN status, fault Have searched everywhere but cant find much about that. Coincidentally the airbag light has come back on and I cant query the SRS for the fault code (communication error). It has been fine previoulsy when I installed an airbag bypass sensor for the passengers seat a while ago and reset the SRS. Could they are related? Wondering if the SRS module wont query has this thrown the EGS into Emergency Mode?
  19. I've read of some the common issue with these, expansion tank, radiator side tanks, temperature sensor o'ring and dont seem to have any of these problem. There is a tiny little bit of white residue on the expansion tank but it doesnt seem to get bigger yet i still lose maybe 100-200ml over an open road journey of about 50km. I read here that the heater matrix can also be a problem but dont have a coolant smell inside and dont appear to have any water inside either. Ive had a good look around the block and cant see anything obivous. I did take than fan and shroud off and had a good look on the inside of the radiator and it looked clean and dry - should it take it right out and look from the other side? Does anyone have any other suggestions in what to look for? Thanks Very small amount of white staining at top of radiator header tank Header tank stain up close Expansion tank looks fine
  20. Dear all My 2002 e46 325i Touring has been with me for more than 4 years now. During this time - focussing on suspension department - it has had the following: 112000kms Bog stock, non M-sport, 16 inch rims on 205/55/16. got rid of the crappy JDM tyres and went to Toyo Proxes4. 1. 125,000kms - replaced front LCR bushes, LCRs, Endlinks with Meyle HD. 2. 150,000kms replaced front and rear shocks with OEM Sachs standard, strut bearings, bushes (ARB and others), tie rods. Better. 3. Found it a bit pogo-like (trying to stay with the e38 mafia on a twisty road), did lots of research, ended up with a staggered set of Style 194's (refurbished) with 225/45/17 and 245/40/17s. Improved, but a little tilty. 4. Added MSport ARBs front and rear (24mm and 20mm). Replaced ARB bushes again. And had the rear trailing arm busges replaced with Meyle HD and some poly edge bushes to stop articulation. Ahhhh, much better. Still rides comfortably, holds line better, grip vastly improved. BUT A small clunk coming from the rear. Long story short: inspection by Page European yesterday, found broken LH rear spring. SO: Options. 1. Find the right touring spring, and replace OEM. 2. Get a set of Motorsport Touring Springs. Upside is better match to my wheels and ARBs, slightly lower, should be a little stiffer without getting crashy. Downside is that it'll cost more, and more importantly - the valving of my OEM shocks won't ideally match the MSport springs. Still prolly better than worn-out springs. 3. Get some Eibachs. Hmmm. A little low for Family touring duties I think. 4. Get some H&Rs - no, I've read they're just too hard for daily commute (80kms or thereabouts per day at the mo). 5. Coilovers? No, not interested - it's not a racecar, doesn't have to be "super low". 7. Get Konis, Bilsteins, or replace your current shocks with MSport shocks? No thanks, I don't want to take out those rear shocks again, there's a huge amoiunt of interior Lego to deal with, and hate spending twice. What do you think? Glenn - appreciate your thoughts Brent - what do you have in stock for my e46 325i Touring 325i? John - what do you think? do you still have those Eibachs? Ron - what do you think? Thanks in advance guys. It would be awesome if I could get this sorted before next weekend... Olaf.
  21. I was driving along the other day and my left rear tailight lense just flew off and broke. only discovered it half an hour later on my return in the middle of the road - mostly in tact but missing one corner... anyway it has the clear lense at the top and an amber coloured indciator bulb fitted. The amber colour seemed to be wearing off so i thought why not replace it with an amber LED? There seem to be a lot around as well some that claim to be CANBUS compatible so not going to trigger any warning lights because of the lower resistance. so to my question.... has anyone retrofitted LED bulbs successfully to their Beamer in place of the standard 1156 / 1157 / BA15S / BA15D bulbs? also might pay to check your tail light lense next time and make sure they are secure, the right hand one on mine is also a little loose and looks like it needs to be silconed in place.
  22. Seems like a reasonable price - includes the $8K!? hard top too ... Apparently it is a 'rear' car too! http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1121173703
