  1. Time to get realistic about selling my e28. I'll update this as things come to mind. As much as it pains me, I need to sell this, as it doesn't quite fulfill what I want from a daily or a weekend car (IE. jack of all, master of none. Not sensible enough for a daily, not silly enough for a weekender). Also it should be keep original, which again doesn't fit with my OEM+ end goal for my cars. If I had the space I would keep it, but I don't so it needs to find a new loving home. I have several spare parts that I can include via negotiation (I still have another E28), including a spare getrag 260 (needs some attention, won't go into 5th) Asking $6.5k ono (fairly hard to value) Project thread here: Car jam here: https://carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=mo9445 Facts: Fresh WOF and Reg last month Converted to manual with a getrag 260 (started by PO) 162XXXKms Bronzitbeige Metallic Perlbeige interior 3.64 medium case diff rear sway bar (my understanding is 525e's didn't have them factory) Manual sunroof that works NZ New Pros: Low KM, mostly original, quite tidy Classic black plates Incredibly tidy interior for it's age, no rips or tears Hasn't left me stranded (unlike my E46 haha) Central looking works perfectly Cons: Clear coat is a bit sad in places Some scratches and dents, character if you like Rust on bonnet vents, sunroof, some on the doors (these are all "they all do that"), comparatively it's low rust Input shaft bearing (well at least that's my diagnosis) quite loud under load. ICV doesn't really work, I assume it did at one point though Needs the correct thermostat housing for the dash temp gauge plug Work done within the last 2000km: Fuel filter and some fuel line Oil filter Oil change Fresh coolant Air filter Intake elbow Tail light gaskets Transmission mounts Transmission output shaft and selector seals Redline MTL Valve adjustment New spark plugs 1 tyre Front sway bar links Battery Accessory belts (both) Rocker cover gasket (to be installed) Lower rubber shifter boot Clutch fork pivot pin Clutch Slave cylinder Heavy duty clutch Throw out bearing Pilot bearing Resurfaced single mass flywheel Various shifter bushes Ignition switch (brand new, but US model so no fancy indicator park lights, could be modded back in)
  2. So I bought my first car on the week end, but it needs a bit of work... It's a 1985 Bronzit 525e that is half way through a manual swap, it's got manual windows and sunroof but that just means less things to break (I hope). It's a bit of a mess at the moment, most of the center console is taken apart and there is no gearbox or driveshaft in it. The previous owner has done most of the electronics and put the pedal box in.
  3. Despite having a decent amount of spares, a good E28 in-tank fuel pump is not something I have. (I do have an E34 one, that *should* work) So I'm looking to upgrade to an OEM+ type solution as that appears to be cheaper than a standard OEM pump. Thoughts on this? https://catuned.com/walbro-fuel-pump-genuine-install-kit Or any other suggestions?
  4. Currently undertaking some remedial work on my E28. Which has involved taking the guards off. What is the best way to remove the goopy sealant stuff and then what do I replace it with when I reattach the guard? Also, I need to touch up the rocker panel protective coating and the rubberised underbody sealant. What should I use here (For each since I'm assuming they require different, but similar products)
  5. My e28 is soon to be getting a M30B35. As most of you will have seen, I got a donor e34 with a good M30 and manual gearbox that's done 170,000 kms which will be going in. Engine, gearbox etc came out of the e34 over the weekend. Have been collecting parts over the last couple of weeks including Mtech rear spoiler, arches, and parts to repair some damage on the front from getting hit (working with the guy's insurance to sort it). Also just installed AP springs about a week ago. The car as it is now: Some of the damage: I'm pretty rubbish at build threads but I'll do my best to update as I go for those interested. Hoping to have the swap done by the end of April.
  6. So i will be converting my m20 powered e28 to m30b35(from e34 92') but our mot needs abs to it so what im asking is what do i need to make abs work. My e28 will have e34 front/rear stuff so i can fit its abs sensors. I also need abs pump still but what abs pumps can i use? Do i need especially the 535 abs pump or can i use something like 525 farm(there is one locally). And something about wiring process would be nice too.
  7. Hi Team, Does anyone have a car trailer suitable for an E28 I can borrow? For free or otherwise. Braked would be preferable. Ideally from Friday 29th evening to Saturday 30th Evening. Cheers
  8. I have a full e28 M30 manual conversion which will be available in about 4-6 weeks. Included are the following parts: E34 M30B35 Getrag 260/6 gearbox - does not have holes for the e28 sensors, the but the spaces in the casing are there, the holes just need to be drilled. Includes crossmember for mounting and mounts. E28 manual pedal box with master cylinder, bottle, clutch line. Single mass flywheel with almost new clutch. Matching driveshaft for E28 fitment. This is a full manual conversion kit for E28s, if I missed any parts in the list they will be included, or specified otherwise. This setup was in my car and running without issue. One lady owner, never thrashed. $2200 or make me an offer. I may sell parts individually depending on interest and what is offered. This will all be available in about 4-6 weeks time. More detailed photos will come around then if a sale is not confirmed. Pickup from Onehunga. Can post if buyer arranged shipping.
  9. E24 chrome mirror for passenger side. Chrome is in good condition as is the glass. Little bit of surface corrosion on inside of base but won't be seen when mounted, this is normal. $150 or make me an offer. Currently pick up only from Panmure.
  10. I am parting out a 1982 E28 528i manual with black cloth seats and interior. I need the whole shell/body, manual parts, suspension (for now so I can move it around). The following parts are for sale: M30B28 motor - Running condition, drove it for over an hour and it didn't overheat. Comes with loom, ecu, manifolds, alternator, powersteering pump etc- $600 M30 radiator - Good condition, no leaks - $80 Black cloth seats and matching door cards - $350 Black carpet - Faded but not bad condition. Best to be seen. - $80 or make an offer Black interior dash parts - Ask for what you want Non AC heater box - $80 or make an offer Non AC center console (2 available, both black) - $80 each Ask for other parts. Have miscellaneous other E28 parts so just ask for what you need.
  11. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1321198583 $15K mixed kms due to lots of rebuilt stuff "Set up as a Race/Track/Targa car she(Ella) has had close to $55K spent on her including the original purchase price. The motor is still the original 3.5 Litre straight six, blue printed around 12000K's ago with a race cam, high volume fuel pump, bigger air box and hand made extractors. Coupled up to a 5 speed manual box with competition clutch. Suspension is Bilstiens with coil overs and the front end has been completely re fabricated - 3 Degrees negative camber. Front brakes are from a late model M5 and the rears are from a V8 850BMW. Adjustable internal brake bias. She is fast, at around 265 BHP, but her handling and braking capabilities embarrass a lot of modern vehicles on the track. She has a full cage a 4 point harness, but these are out of date and will need to be complied if you want to go racing. OR, I can take the cage out and re install the interior ready for the street. She will be sold with a new warrant and at the moment the Rego is on hold. Will put 6 months on when sold.
  12. AP Suspension 40/30mm lowering springs for E28. Less than 2 years old. Rears have had one coil cut to even out the height as the back sat too high as they were. They are still fully captive on stock length shocks and seat properly, once installed it is impossible to tell this has been done as it's one of the dead coils at the top and rests against the rubber pad in the top mount. $200. Pickup from Panmure, Auckland or can post at buyer's expense. How my car sat with them (with M30 bear in mind)
  13. So, upgraded all four corners on my e28 eta to e34 540i calipers and rotors. notable improvement. As far as I can tell, the next upgrade is in the master cylinder dept to improve pedal feel. have sourced an e32 750i MC to swap out, but, sounds like compatibility is not as I had found. ETA models employ a vacuum boost brake system, and now I'm not sure this swap out is feasible. Anyone done this upgrade? Or able to provide some insight?
  14. Hi All, Have some spare M30 exhuast flanges sitting around from my build. The ports are slightly off by about 1-2mm on on side due to design change (company side) and wasn't worked out till 2nd set was made. Totally fine for stock or light turbo as runners could be put on outside. They cost me around $100 each at time but ill sell them for $50 each, Ask questions as have a lot of respect for the users on this forum and don't want to screw anyone over or around. x1 = 14mm mild steel x1 = 10mm stainless
  15. I've isolated the source of my disappointment. The rear (aftermarket) muffler on my 525e is, positively depressing. It sounds terrible, doesn't fit perfectly enough for me, rattles and looks less than ideal. This needs fixing. I've taken it off, and it sounds amazing without a rear muffler. However it has the occasional nasty vibration and is according to my phone, too loud. But man it sounds good (even for a lowly eta). So I'd like something that retains the character of a straight pipe, but lowers the volume and returns the touch of class a classic BMW should have. And some nice tips wouldn't go amiss either (got a swanky hartge dual to oval tip I'd like to try). I'm happy to buy individual parts and design/weld/asssemble any pipe work.
  16. I have a 1983 e28 which, until a few years ago, had a perfect crack-free dashboard. It is garaged all the time and when parked outside I always use a sun-shield. It has done no good and the cracks are appearing. Is there anything I can do to repair (fill?) them or prevent them expanding?. I am guessing not. I don't like the idea of a dash cap, but perhaps someone can recommend where I could source a high-quality dash mat?
  17. Right. This one's a bit of doozy... The boot on my 525e is stuck shut. I'm 90% certain that something has gotten a bit intimate with either the hinges or more likely the catch mechanism. Now the beauty of the E28 is that it has a nice ski pass for me to crawl through... Except it doesn't I've tried sitting on it and massaging the open button, high-fiving the badge area, poking long things through the strut access holes, but to no avail. I've got the following, fairly primitive ideas... Smash a light Drill out the lock Drill a hole behind the number plate Cut a hole in the top of the boot Cut a hole behind the rear seat Never open the boot again Or actually use my AA membership for something and see what creative ideas they come up with... Any ideas? If not feel free to grab some popcorn
  18. Looking for front and rear bumpers for E28. Minimal rust but chrome doesn't have to be perfect. I do realise these will be 30 years old so not asking for perfect condition, but they need to be usable. Preferably in Auckland.
  19. Hi everyone The Getrag 260 that came with my car has the wrong bellhousing on it (m30 instead of m20), so I am looking to buy either a: Getrag 260 Getrag 265 Getrag 240 Getrag 245 ZF S5-16 All with either an m20 bellhousing or removable bellhousing and either the holes for the sensors or the ability to have the holes added. Also a matching driveshaft and shift linkage would be good too. EDIT: and the cross member Thanks
  20. Looking for the above diff to fit to the e28. cheers
  21. Hoping someone has either used parts or a full set of springs/shocks or anything for that matter. Thanks in advance
  22. Hi guys, looking for some advice regarding the stereo in my e28. Currently I have an ok sony headunit (CD, FM, AUX, front and rear out RCA), two stock 6x4 and two sony 6x9 that came with the car (I'm not planning on using these). My car does not have the premium sound package so I only have 2 6x4 speaker mounts in the kick panel and 2 in the parcel shelf (these are empty). I would like to keep everything looking as close to stock/OEM+ as possible, so no cutting of major components or irreversible changes. The headunit is fine for now, but the speakers need an upgrade. I'm looking at buying: 5 Channel amp Small, maybe 10" sub to go under the rear seat 2x 6x4 component/plate style speakers (or equivelant individual speakers) 2x 6x4 speakers, probably coaxial, but could be component or individual speakers with a premium parcel shelf grill Most likely 2 tweeters (probably on the a pillars) My budget won't be super high, but I'd like to buy a few quality component rather than lots of average ones. I can also space the buying out, but the amp would need to come first, followed by some 6x4s Thanks
  23. Mtech 1 steering wheel. Fine spline, bigger diameter version. Leather has some wear period correct patina. Stitching has separated above right spoke but the rest is fine. Overall in decent condition I would say. Look down upon other base model E28/E30 drivers with their peasant spec steering devices while you cruise along with your hands comforted by this ergonomically pleasant, motorsport inspired steering wheel. All for the measly sum of $100. A mere bargain, really. Pickup from Panmure.
  24. Looking on behalf of a mate, mostly to get him an idea of the market (since there are none for sale I can't really say this is how much they go for)
  25. As per the title. What are peoples thoughts on what m535i e28s are worth both in general and compared to say a 525e converted to m535i spec.
