  1. Some photos on our first 2 weeks with the E60 M5 while we where traveling about 2,500+ kms on both South Island and North Island. Oddly enough it was reliable, clutch was getting sketchy when it was doing its bridal car duty for my friends, possibly due to 30c heat and I did downshift it a bit. We also encountered 1 red cog error after going down slowly on a 200 meter driveway, I think the computer panicked or got confused... it was a really stop and go moment for the tranny. Turn off and on the car seems to have sorted it. I then did it again a few more times but just set to neutral and coasted it down. Overall it is a great touring car on the country side (V10 sound is really different), just avoid the city and it is a very fun car. Hopefully with proper maintenance and luck we get to a keeper and we could use every now and then going around NZ. Our R34 has now retired of its road trip duties, now it's only used for cruising on nearby places until it gets upgraded. We saw a few BMWs along the way, not sure if they are here on this forums including a 650i F06.
  2. Start: 152,294kms. After prevaricating, considering the market and options, TermiPete's 545i became available. The domino effect of upgrading! I'd thought about X5's, missed out on a 535d Motorsport Touring by 2 days, and thought about 550is. So I bought this. It's my SS Commodore. Just in a sharply tailored german suit, rather than a Drizabone. And it has a roundel where the lion would be. And it's cool. Pete has lavished a bit of attention on this vehicle since acquiring it in Oct 2015. Now its my turn. I've already ordered hardware for shock replacement (bump stops, boots, strut bearings, bolts etc)... now deciding which shocks to get. Sachs standard (OEM) Bilstein: Touring (B4), HD (B6), Sport (B8) Koni Yellows After doing the shocks on three of my last four cars, the last two I've stuck with factory IEM spec Sachs (my Volvo 855-T5 and BMW e46 Touring). I'm not planning on changing the springs on this 545i and don't want to radically transform or make it too hard. It has Standrard suspension, it's on 18" conventional tyres (no need for RFT's here as it has a spare), and has Dynamic Drive option (the active computer controlled anti-roll bars) and having driven a near-identical car without DD, I'm sold on it. Koni Yellows I'm sure would be lovely, but they're a little more pricey. Bilstein: tempted to go HD (B6 Yellow), they're said to be made to work with stock springs but are up to 20% stiffer. I think this would be similar to the addition of KYB Excel+ gas shocks to my old A32 Maxima. Firmed it up and helped it hugely with roadholding and ride. Alternately B4 Tourings are said to be 10% stiffer than stock. Sachs: The OEM shocks are equivalent to 31316766993 (Front left) and 31316766994 (Front right), and 33526766995 rear. They'll no doubt "just work". Would I be crazy to go Bilstein HD B6? And as soon as the shocks are done, it's time for new boots (and panties). Photos soon.
  3. Giving in to peer pressure @Olaf and @adro and sharing 'the journey'... although nowhere near as hands on as the latter or as fastidious as the former! Car 1 is a 2001 E53 V8 Sport Package in Stahlgrau Car 2 is a 2005 E60 M5 in Silverstone II
  4. I have a 2009 525i E60. It came with run-flats but I found it very unresponsive with these on so, when the time came to renew two of them I chucked the lot and bought four normal tyres - 225/50/R17s. It drives better with the normal tyres (though not as good as the E46s I've owned in the past) so am loathe to go back to run-flats. However... I didn't realise it came with no spare (yes, I should have looked - doh!) until I found out the hard way 🙄. So am now in the market for a space saver or cheap wheel (with or without tyre) that will suit the car.
  5. Up for sale is the pair of Eisenmann mufflers from my E60 M5, they in great condition and have been fitted to my M5 since 2018. Located in Papakura, Auckland (can be picked up from East Tamaki if need be) I'm looking for $3000 Update: Exhaust is out and ready to go, more pictures below..
  6. Recent life changes have meant I'm not beholden to anyone/thing and have some cash flow to potentially look at my dream car. Something to spark joy as it were! I see a few e60 M5s listed between 60k and 110k kms, most seem to have basic maintenance records, one with acl rod bearing done and some with half the throttle actuators replaced. I could stomach a few k a year in maintenance. What else should I be considering before pulling the trigger? Private sale vs dealer? Pre purchase inspection? Local vs fresh import? Insurance (I see there's an autosure discount from joining this club?). I'm based in Tauranga (Mount) so would have to get it remotely checked / fly in to test drive. Also don't have a proper garage at my current place so wondering if being in the open air a km from the ocean will ruin it Appreciate your thoughts
  7. And repeat, then probably go to the red light district and top it off with a quick smoke..... WTF Netherlands, you crazy.
  8. With the coming apocalypse I think as a responsible v10 owner I should be applying for some green car rebates to invest into making the M5 more "green". https://www.motor1.com/news/25581/g-power-bmw-m5-hurricane-gs-the-worlds-fastest-lpg-vehicle/ You would have to burn through some huge distances to get any return on investment for your blown swamp gas conversion, but Jacinda would be happy so that's a win.......
  9. As some of you know, we purchased a E60 M5 a few years ago. Bimmersport has been with us throughout the journey of finding/hunting for a M5: And been posting about the ownership journey every now and then: This year me and my wife have decided to let go of our cars, due to changing circumstances. Sadly sold our R34 which we owned for 16 years a few weeks back. We are as well contemplating on selling my wife's M5. I have seen on trademe E60 M5 being sold from mid $30ks to $40ks. We have a natural bias on our car, also having spent a lot on it (see thread above). Just a quick glance of the current listing in trademe, none of them has a similar combination of low-milage (64k kms), replaced all major E60 issues/consumables and option/trim level. We are lucky enough that we don't need the funds urgently, however if we find the right buyer and price we have made up our mind to let go of it. Thinking of listing on trademe, but I guess the price we are after is more than the current listings. I am already spent a good deal of time prepping and selling our R34. I don't have time and energy to sell another car. Or should I just list on trademe and see how it goes?

    08 E60 M5

Decided it was finally time to realize a childhood dream and get myself a V10 M5, the E39 M5 is still very much a car I'd love to own but that can wait for now. I'd been on the fence for some time but I'd been watching M539 Restorations videos on the tube and his recent videos of his E60 M5 got me thinking to the point where I'm posting this thread. 2008 BMW M5 (2006 build) 102000km at purchase Initial goals with the car is to give the car a big birthday, service all the fluids and replacing it's tired brakes. Next step will be bringing the car back to a factory look with standard wheels and removal of BLAAAACK additions.
  11. Hi there, I have searched to the ends of the earth attempting to find an exhaust system for a BMW 2006 525i right-hand drive. I really need an upgrade and would love something deep sounding and noticeable but not obnoxious. I also have yet to find a single exhaust available to me in NZ. Please Send help :D Daniel
  12. Very rarely do these 530d's come up for sale but the time has come to move on my pride and joy. I have owned this vehicle for the last seven months and it has been nothing but pure driving pleasure. This particular vehicle is presented in Carbon Black with black leather. It has been meticulously maintained by myself and it's previous owners. I have done a full service on it with all new fuel, cabin, oil, and air filters (K&N performance filter installed). The glow plugs have also been replaced. This particular vehicle is a lower kilometer example. Imported from the UK in 2011 with just 30ks on it, it has spent most of it's life on NZ roads. There doesn't seem to be any accident damage present. There are a few scuff marks etc but I will get a professional cut and polish done before the new owner takes possession of the vehicle. I have serviced it with Penrite HPR5 and Ryco filter's as I swear by their products. Some of the feature's are * 124 ks * Xenon Lights * Headlight Washers * Rain Sensing Wipers * LCI Trim and Tail lights (Halo's are used as DRLs - Daytime Running lights) * 11000 kms RUCs in credit * 3 Litre 173kw (235hp)and 500nm of torque Turbocharged 6 Cylinder Diesel Engine with 6 Speed automatic transmission * Bridgestone RE050A Run-flat tyres with 5 plus mm tread(Full size spare included in sale with Goodyear Eagle NCT-5 Run-flat fitted) Heated seats Automatic Headlamps Over 1000ks per tank on long trips Tinted Windows Navigation with NZ Maps USB and Auxiliary inputs There may have been things I have forgotten to mention but I am happy to answer any questions via text or phone call. KM's will go up as I am daily driving it momentarily. Viewing in Glenfield during business hours or Sandringham after hours. Personalized plates are not included in the sale and neither is the car seat nor radar detector 🙂 After $11, 500 for Bimmersport members Contact SJ on 02102916373 https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3196153938?bof=TbBVUy2T Trademe link
  13. Looking to buy broken S65 (E90 M3) or S85 (E60 M5) throttle actuators. Looking to do practice upgrade/repair on these throttle actuators. I like to practice on broken actuators, so when I upgrade mine I have enough experience to open and put things back together. Alternatively I can attempt to upgrade/repair your throttle actuator for free, just you pay for the parts (less than $100). No warranty or if can't repair your throttle actuator no bad feelings. I am doing repair it in good faith.
  14. Hi all, I have the SRS Airbag warning in I-Drive with airbag and seatbelt lights on cluster. (04 e60 545i) Have bought a Creator 310+ BMW scan tool and spent the last couple of hours trying to find the fault/code. Checked all the obvious airbag related option, automatic search and specific vehicle search, no luck. Tried to find something on YouTube but limited when it comes to e60 airbag stuff. Any tips on using the Creator 310+ and airbag codes, sensors etc greatly appreciated.
  15. Hi all, I'm Chris, I just purchased a Japan market 2006 E60 540i sedan done around 74,000km, in silver with black interior. My first BMW, in fact first European vehicle after nearly 30 years of driving Japanese and Korean cars. NZC in Hornby were the sellers, they advertised the vehicle a number of months ago but it had mechanical issues on arrival - I never got to test drive it first time round, but when it was re-advertised recently after repairs I test drove it and decided to buy. The problems it initially had were significant, and cost over $3500 for NZC to fix; it got a new gearbox, and leaky seals replaced. The only issues it seems to have now are an intermittent reversing camera, and I suspect the key fob (sealed unit that charges by induction) battery is on its last legs. Very tidy exterior and interior, very few squeaks or rattles, so far very happy with it touch wood ?
  16. Hi everyone, Looking to buy my first BMW which I will use primarily as a daily driver to and from work (60 km round trip 5 days a week). I also have a 2 year old son and 2nd on the way, so need to be able to get at least one car seat in the back. I have been doing a lot of research (on both here and some overseas forums), and think I've narrowed it down to three models which I'd appreciate people's opinions on. Maximum budget is $15,000. I haven't had a chance to drive any yet, but in order of my most preffered first: E60 540i LCI / 550i pre-LCI E90 335i E90 330i (the "sensible" choice). Was just seeking a bit more information on the following: 1) E60: Probably my first preference as a comfortable daily commuter (New Lynn to Albany - involves a mixture of full speed motorway cruising and bumper to bumper crawling) and spacious family car. Within my budget I'm probably looking at either a non-LCI 550i or a LCI 540i. The 550i is obviously quite a bit quicker, but I've read that BMW made quite a lot of improvements with the LCI update? I would never have considered commuting that distance in a v8, until I saw that they're ~20% more fuel efficient than my current Nissan 3.5L V6 (according to the official figures, anyway). 2) E90: I was very tempted by the 335i but was initially put off by all the horror stories regarding the HPFP. From reading a bit more here, I understand that NZ new / Jap imports aren't as susceptible to this due to less sulphur in the petrol? In saying that, they're obviously a very complex bit of engineering. Everything else equal, how would the predicted reliability / maintenance costs compare to the E60 V8 (I understand they have valve stem issues which can be expensive too)? 3) MBI / Dealer Warranty: I understand that getting an MBI is well advised (especially for the 540 and 335). Are the mechanical warranties offered by the 2nd hand car dealers any different than me taking out my own MBI policy? Who are the best providers? I read Autosure was good - any others to consider? 4) Any other considerations? I will make sure I get a PPI done by a BMW specialist Obviously a service history is highly desired, but as most on the market are imports from Japan would these usually even have any kind of useful history? Another thing that concerns me is the number of KMs that I do every year (~18,000). Say I buy one @ around 80,000 kms, am I just asking for trouble putting that kind of mileage on a car like these? Any guidance / opinions would be greatly received. Cheers guys! Nick
  17. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1574150883.htm $32K 100KMs One of 71 right hand drive models made and 1 of 4 in NZ 4.4l supercharged V8 - 500hp, 700NM, 315kph top speed. A rare and special car!
  18. WTB; Anyone has or knows where I can get wheels/mags like the ones below for an E60 2005 (preferably Auckland based)
  19. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1475251500 198KMs $18K Higher KMs but beautifully presented. I particularly like the headlight shot! Thoughts @kiwi535?
  20. Hi everyone, please check out our BMW, now up for $1 reserve and closing in a couple of hours. So far price is sitting very low. This vehicle has not been mapped or tuned and has been generously serviced and maintained at 10,000km intervals. Like most on this forum, I did a great deal of homework before purchasing and ensured the vehicle was a good one before buying. That was 3 years ago. Since then, as mentioned, very well looked after. It is NZ New, M5 wheels with good grip from the 285's Pirellis. This sale is an opportunity for someone who will love this car as much as we have and have maintained with consideration of future longevity, rather than just to keep on the road. Dismissed by many as of little value, the air-conditioned seating is something that you will quickly fall in love with over Summer and very very rare. Just under 2 years Autosure Extreme remaining and is completely transferable for $150. Brand new wof and service. I know most out there won't have been maintained as well and at such frequent intervals. Don't miss out https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1464791721 ..at the very least please help push the price up for me Cheers, NJC
  21. Greetings fellow Bimmersporters. I couldn't find the last discussion thread via the search bicycle, apologies for starting a new one. My e60 was acquired sporting a set of German number plates, and very nice they are too. An eagle-eyed member of the constabulary pulled me over in October, and enquired as to why. Car had just received a new WoF, and "officer it was what the car came with; how do I obtain replacements?". Treated with courtesy and respect, the officer kindly waived the $150 fine, and I promised to obtain replacements. With valuable guidance from @eliongator, I've obtained replacement plates. I now need to fit them. It appears the German plates may have been afixed with double-sided tape. QUESTION: Are there standard kits (cap screws, with white and black concealment caps) available for fixing plates to our vehicles - particularly the e60? Where do I get them - from the dealership? Any hints on how to sort this out? I figure this is a straightforward item to address - as long as I have the right kit. Many thanks in advance for your assistance Olaf
  22. Has anyone bought these? Know if they're legal in NZ? Any good? Cheers http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/exterior/auction-1392765918.htm
  23. A somewhat unusual E60 M5 for sale in auckland at Buy Right Cars with asking price $37,980. I thought the "Unusual Edition" was a good badge, it's Indianapolis Red with White Leder interior, and only 40k kms on the clock. Please refrain from commenting that the low mileage is due to the previous owner was to scared to be seen in public in it; the buyer may ultimately join our ranks! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1320656610.htm Nice to see an alternate hue. At first I thought the images had bad white balance... Then I did a google search on Indianapolis Red and found it is kinda rusty looking red; "a bit ginga" if you like. It's striking, I kinda like it. And here's that Nissan Maxima wood again... ....and, the obligatory rearshot: Sassy!
  24. with my 545i nudging its way towards 160k kms, I'm going to have the trans serviced, or at least, the filter and pan, mechatronics sleeve, and fluid replaced. I have the pan and bolts and sleeve, and new fill plug ready to go. I've been looking into fluids. Seems the ZF 6 Speed is sensitive to fluid... The Spec for 6HP26 is: ZF Spec TE-ML 11B Shell M-1375.4 Armed with this knowledge, and wanting to avoid "DexIII" assumption, I've looked at lots of info, written off Redline D6-ATF as it doesn't actually meet the specs, merely states it's a "popular crossover". BMW dealer kindly offered to retail me their Shell fluid at $80/litre. After that Redline prices in NZ looked almost reasonable at $40/litre! Options: There's a Febi oil 34608 which is relatively inexpensive, meets the M-1375.4 and is listed by Febi as being the right thing for 6HP26. Very little additional info, don't even know if it's mineral blend or full synth. A shade under USD10 per litre. BMW's own 83222220445 meets Shell M-1375.4 (USD37/litre) ZF Lifeguard 6 meets ZF Spec TE-ML 11B and Shell M-1375.4, it's price is getting up there (USD25/litre) Pentosin ATF1 is Full Synthetic, meets ZF Spec TE-ML 11B and Shell M-1375.4, and is reasonably priced in USA at about USD15/litre. I'm reading there's no NZ distributor, is this correct? I've also looked at the Penrite site - they have no equivalent, as do Castrol NZ (warning only to use Shell M-1375.4). Total's NZ distributor site listed FLUIDMATIC MV LV, but precious little else, didn't appear to be a stocked item. Fuchs product finder listed ATF4134, though it only appears to have Mercedes certification. Service Refill capacity stated as 9.7 litres. ruled out. Wildcard: Ford Motorcraft Mercon SP. Yep, it's for the Ford ZF 6HP26 (called Ford 6R80)... In the US it's inexpensive, meets the right specs. Dunno if it's full synthetic. Wonder if I should call a Ford Dealer parts department (though one recalls why one does not own a Ford!). Hyundai also runs this trans. Hmm. Proposed service approach: Drain fluid (just draining sounds like it's 4.5 litres). Refill to spec (I understand it's a three-stage thing, with correct trans temps reached, and adaptations reset). Drive for 500kms. Then drain and replace the pan with the new ZF part, sleeve, bolts, refill to spec with fresh fluid. I think 12 litres should be plenty for this adventure. Which Fluid? I think I'll go with Pentosin ATF1 as it meets both ZF's own TE-ML 11B, and Shell's M-1375.4 specs, is fully synthetic, and is reasonably priced. Question 1: Anyone in NZ sell Pentosin ATF1? I don't object to a reasonable margin for freight, tax, and holding stock... if only someone is selling it here. Question 2: Should I talk with a Ford dealer about Motorcraft Mercon S? Question 3: Anything I've missed? I also plan on replacing the diff fluid, and perhaps soon the Engine & Trans mounts, and the Guibo. It's a 14 year old car, needs a bit of upkeep. Your thoughts appreciated.
  25. Looks like these guys are on a race to the bottom http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1356939622.htm
